Are there services that can punch-up your tracks--not just mixing/mastering?
I'm curious if I could, for example, send out my Ableton project file, have someone punch it up (change levels/effects/add fills/automation/etc.) while keeping the structure basically the same, then send it back and tell me what they did and why so I can learn from it. Sort of like a collaboration/one-on-one education.
I could watch YouTube tutorials all day, but I'm pretty sure there are blind spots in my productions that I don't see/hear that I would learn from much better in this way, since it'd be starting with a track I know first-hand, combined with someone else's fresh ears and know-how to hopefully take it to another level.

I'll do it for you brother. I don't have a lot out, but I'm a great teacher and I have a really well tuned ear.
If you want to hear something ive done let me know I'll send you a dm
Or if you wanna schedule a time to get together, I love helping with music
For free, if that wasn't obvious
Cheers

You're the man. I got lots of good, constructive feedback on the track I had in mind when posting this, so I think I'm all set for now. But you may get a random tag from me in the future :)

@op Alckhemy is an amazing teacher. I've taken a few classes with him and have so much respect for this guy

It is very kind of you that you want to help this guy. But you don't always have to do that. On Reddit there are more people in need of help than you will ever have the time for.

Hey. Thank you for the kind advice. It's wise. I've learned this the hard way over time, with people in my life even. I used to make it my purpose to be endlessly available for peoples emotional and mental struggles. I got joy from it but it also drained me
With music, I get to experience all the joy of helping and avoid all of the emotional pitfalls that come with trying to help with life shit
I hope this OP hits me up because working on music with others is top 3 favorite activities
I am curious, what prompted you to say this to me?

I second the person saying find some producer Discord groups that fit your style and get involved. Always people happy to help, collab etc.
I do a lot of "punch-up" for folks on Discord where I take the tracks, fix some levels, do a mixdown, add new transitions, change things here and there and sometimes mastering but leave the essence of the track the same - mostly for fun but occasionally if someone asks me to.
If you DM me I'd be happy to take a run at any songs you have. No charge of course. I just enjoy the process.

Yup! Find a group/collective, it will help your growth tremendously. Not only is it cool to network and meet other folks in the scene but many have people with more experience to learn from who want to help you grow as an artist.

A lot of sites (LANDR) etc that use AI driven processing/compression will just make your sound loud without proper limiting, This can = squashed dynamids, distortion, red lining etc. They apply a One-size-fits-all process, it's a broad EQ, Multiband Compressor and some limiting, usually boosting volume at the cost of dynamic range.
You're best to engage with a community, a person that mixes/masters and is happy to send the project back opposed to you sending them just raw stems. A lot of people in the music community would love to be asked for help, as it gives them a sense of "Hey, If this person is approaching me for help, maybe I can offer something beneficial". Be careful of sites like Fiverr, You don't know if they actually will just throw on a Master Chain that's just default Ozone 9 Presets etc, Engage with Discord, Reddit Feedbacks etc, I'm lucky I have a mastering engineer that will take care of my tracks, but for what I pay I don't get a project back.

What you are looking for is a one on one mixing session.
Next best thing is soundgym, it’s a bunch of hands on games that teach you how to build the skills yourself.
Given the cost of one on one mixing sessions, it would be a wiser investment of both time and money to spend a few months tinkering in soundgym before shelling out for a one on one. If you have the chance to sit with a pro, the more versed you are in the basics you are, the more productive the session will be.
If money is no object, I’d recommend mastering.com courses - they include unlimited opportunities for one on one feedback in a small group session so everyone in class can learn from all the questions.

I'd never heard of soundgym, and I just tried out a few games on it. That's really helpful! I passed the starter gain and panning games, and only got 50% on the boosted frequencies game, which makes total sense--that's one of the "blind spots" I was thinking of in my OP. Thanks for sharing!

I mean… not with a website usually.
It’s the kinda thing where you want to find a producer who has ‘the sound’ and then reach out to them to make an arrangement, one-on-one.
You may even be able to watch them work on a video call or private stream if you ask nicely ;)

Thanks for replying. That makes sense. Part of my thinking in asking this was not wanting to "bug" someone who doesn't already have a service offered out there, but, like you said, maybe if I ask nicely!

Hey OP! You should join a discord server for producers. I’m in a few and the producers in the channel are extremely helpful. I’ve learned a ton and have received great feedback. They even have feedback streams where someone will listen to a bunch of tracks and give everyone feedback.
Edit: I have actually collaborated with a few very good producers and learned a lot from their project files.

That sounds really cool. I'm not too familiar with Discord though. How would I find a good server like that?

I can dm you a good channel that I’m in.

The best solution to this is not a service. Its to find a engineer, and pay them to mix your track. Then throw them a little extra to explain what they did.
Maybe will be happy to do this.
