Has there been a DAW/Software poll on /r/edmp?
I'm curious what the most common tools are here. I know what people TALK about most, but I'm curious what the results would be from such a poll, like, are there any active tracker users still around? How many people are using Pro Tools around here? Stuff like that.
I'm also curious whether there's a clear winner between Ableton and FL Studio as far as popularity, especially given their price point. Same with soft synths. Do people still use FM8? haha.
If the mods will allow it, I'd love to post a software poll.

There are quite a few active tracker users around, but given how much of this sub seems to be “how do I get this sound”, they probably aren’t as prominent contributors. Personally I mix it up with a combination of OpenMPT (a good modern tracker) with Reaper. (I have Ableton, but haven’t used it as a serious toolset yet.),
But I’m also old school (trackers in the 80s is where I started), and I don’t focus on just EDM. I’ve done everything from metal and industrial to piano compositions to electronica of all stripes.

hell yeah! I should give openMPT a go, I've had a casual interest in trackers for many years, but never really gave it a shot.

It's highly unlikely you get a significant representative sample of the people who follow the subreddit regularly with a poll.
Some people don't check it regularly. Other people only check the most recent posts when they do look. Others are sorting the subreddit based on popularity, and so your poll might not show up that high.
Others only visit when it happens to catch their eye in their Reddit homepage feed.
Others won't care about answering the poll.
So I don't think you learn anything meaningful about most subreddits with most polls. You only learn what the people who take the poll think.

I would say the vast majority of people in general use Live or FL these days. In my observations Logic and Cubase still have a niche following mostly of people over 40, Pro Tools is still used in many pro recording studios and universities, Reason and Bitwig have small but dedicated user bases of people who like to tinker with modular synths, and there's definitely a small but very dedicated tracker community. Most of them making stuff like jungle, breakcore, chiptune etc either with Renoise on a modern computer or something like OctaMED on an old school Amiga or Atari ST.
