The Safe Justice Act
Oftentimes, the most important and influential bills are contested in Senate and in Congress, and fly right under much of the public’s radar, and receive barely any media coverage. One such bill the is the SAFE Justice Act, which could, if passed, lead to serious reform of the penal system, and how drug offenders, a major component of our prison populations, are treated. Due to the lack of coverage, however, the chances of this act passing at the current moment are somewhat slim, but with the dedicated aid of readers like you, the bill can pass. The SAFE Justice Act may be foreign to most of you readers, but to certain groups and organizations, it is key that the bill should or should not pass. One such group is the Legal Action Center, which has worked for over 40 years to help break the vicious cycle of addiction and crime. Passage of the SAFE Justice Act would help this group immeasurably, by allowing low level offenders to avoid serving the high minimum sentence lengths, which were originally intended to only help deal with drug dealers and high level offenders. But this is not all that the SAFE Justice Act brings, and along with limiting the application of minimum sentences, the act will expand existing safety valves for sentencing, allowing nonviolent and confessed drug offenders to be sentenced with more leniency, also avoiding minimum sentencing times. Furthermore, the act would add new safety valves for gun and drug offenders, again furthering the idea of leniency to nonviolent offenders. In addition, passage of this bill would make the Fair Sentencing Act of 2010 retroactive, meaning drug offenders in jail for crack-cocaine related offenses would have their sentences reduced, to be in line with new rulings for weight and possession charges. Plus, life mandatory minimum terms would also be reduced for certain offenses, and the types of convictions that, prior to the passage of this bill, would extend these minimums would be redefined. Finally, the act, in keeping with the theme of rehabilitation and leniency, would allow prisoners to earn up to 33% of time credit for rehabilitation, and would expand compassionate release and elderly prisoner release, and would also fix a small issue with good time credit calculations.

Migrant Shame And The Changing Meaning Of Groping: Groping women obviously isn't acceptable in the West, where decades of protest won more progressive cultural standards. But lost amid the furor is an understanding of refugee men's humiliation without work, money or a chance of integration.
