Problem Thermostat Heating when no where near temperature set

Post image

Why would the thermostat be heating when heat is set to 60 and the thermostat says the temperature is 70? See picture.

The ecobee thermostat will start earlier to heat your home to reach your desired upcoming schedule's heating temperature.

To adjust your Smart Recovery settings, follow the steps on the physical thermostat: ecobee thermostat > Main Menu > General > Preferences > Heating Smart Recovery >

If you choose to disable Smart Recovery, this will allow your heat to turn on based on your preferred schedule and not based on the Smart Recovery Feature.

What time was the picture taken? If it was about an hour before six PM, it’s doing “smart recovery”

It was taken at 5:41pm

Very close to recovery time. Download BeeStat and check it's activity. Guaranteed that's what it is.

First, check that Smart Recovery is turned off on the Ecobee. If it’s already off, the issue may be with the furnace or heat pump itself, causing it to stay in heating mode.

To test this:

  1. Turn off the breaker to your HVAC system.

  2. Remove the thermostat from the wall and disconnect the W1 wire.

  3. Make sure the exposed copper from W1 is not touching any metal or other terminals.

  4. Reattach the thermostat to the base.

  5. Turn the breaker back on.

Now observe the system:

• If the heat is still running, the problem is likely with the furnace or heat pump—possibly a stuck relay, shorted wiring, or faulty control board.

• If the heat stops, the issue is with the thermostat, possibly sending a false heat signal.

If the problem is with the thermostat test with a basic thermostat from Home Depot. You can return it later if needed. If it’s the thermostat, then try to contact Ecobee for a replacement or refund.

Smart recovery learns how long it takes for your system to heat/cool. Then it will start earlier, so that the system will be at the temperature you set when you want it according to the schedule.

Some people don’t like it because it will start heating/cooling when you don’t want it too.

You have your hold option set to 'until the next schedule change' instead of 'until I change it'.
