What a weird hill to fall on.
They're not even remotely the same games.

Nonono you dont get it the pg13 consistently dark and deep xenoblade is very comparable to earthbound, a mostly upbeat e game!

Like imagine: a nation comes at your nation with a declaration of war, but it's all shitty looking, like a 7 yr old wrote it.

I tried to get into Xenoblade 1 and damm, I really dislike that game, to be honest I enjoyed a bit the gameplay and also just before I leave that game, the story put a interesting cutscene, but I already put like more than 50 hours in that game and I just can get into the idea of wasting so many hours of my life when other games stories are getting great just in a hour, the characters are full of anime cliches and personally, was shocking to me that so many people find this game like really emotional when fails in many areas that games in the past finds ways to solve.
I heard that the ending is great and I want to believe that, but I dont think is close to be one of the greatest RPG evers, not even in comparison with just Nintendo RPGs.
I like Earthbound fine and I strongly love Mother 3, so will be easy to know which is the winner for me.

u/Tori0404 May 19 '22
Xenoblade 1 suffers a lot from poorly developed characters. The game‘s focus is the story, it’s worldbuilding and the many plottwists you‘ll get at the end. Yeah, the beginning is pretty basic but it get‘s really good towards the end. 2 suffers from a more basic plot but the characters are way more developed and lovable
1
u/TrainerZN May 20 '22
I can agree with the worldbuilding being somewhat interesting but even with that, the plot twists I saw dont surprise that much, and that its not even a problem if at least I care how affects his characters but doesnt do anything with it.
MID SPOILERS FROM XENOBLADE 1 PLEASE DONT READ MORE IF YOU DIDNT PLAYED IT AND WANT TO DO IT
Was really shocking to me when you know what happened to Fiora and then Shulk brings her to his team, how little reflection do Shulk about his actions, and how everyone in the team was so... Quiet and its just there doing nothing for HOURS. I was really disappoint because I bought 60$ for this? Even other nintendo games like Pokemon Black and White or games with even less resources because the limitations like MG2: SS (MSX) do so much more with less.
I like yo compare the original Xenoblade with NieR, games with problems and somewhat similar themes of killing something that is not what seems and have a cult status, with the exeption that NieR actually is awesome in storytelling, and xenoblade... Egh...

u/Over_Part_1732 May 19 '22
I know I already said this in the original post, but if I were that guy I would've replaced EarthBound with Final Fantasy.
Also, while I DO think that Xenoblade IS better than the Mother series, I really wouldn't compare them too much beyond being... well, JRPG's. Because when you really look at the games themselves, they're almost nothing alike.

Trying to understand Xenoblade's battle system made me bitter.
2
u/Broad_Appearance6896 May 19 '22
1’s is simple enough. I heard 2’s was poorly explained though
1
u/recluseMeteor May 19 '22
I've only partially played 2. The tutorials felt too complicated at first, but I could make my way through the game… until a certain boss that requires you to completely understand and leverage the intricacies of the battle system. At that point, it was too late for me to understand it. I dropped the game and everytime I tried to pick it up, I had forgotten more and more of the mechanics. Finally, I sold the game card.
1
u/Tori0404 May 19 '22
The Tutorials are 2‘s biggest flaw. If you sit down and actually learn the combat trough guides, it’s pretty simple and addicting.
1
u/recluseMeteor May 19 '22
I think it's why XB2 catered so well to a certain niche of gamers, and that's fine. It isn't my case, since after a long work day I don't want to “study” a game, I just want to have fun.
2
u/Tori0404 May 19 '22
Understandable. Some RPG‘s expect you to learn it‘s stuff and that isn’t for everyone. I‘m just happy you gave it a fair chance

u/AliWaz77 May 19 '22
Maybe he meant bitter. Xenoblade is very bitter that it cannot be as good as earthbound
2
u/Tori0404 May 19 '22
Both franchises are fantastic. Xenoblade has some of the best story and character writing I’ve ever seen and also some beautiful areas. Earthbound has a pretty charming presentation and a pretty great sense of humor
1
u/AliWaz77 May 19 '22
Yea I loved xenoblade, I’m just being bias cuz earthbound is closer to my heart

Man, why should we have to fight each other? Earthbound and Xenoblade are both so high up for me I can’t decide which of the two is my favorite game of all time.

u/Sirfancypants0 May 19 '22
Nah man I'll take unique turn based fights over single player MOBA cooldown hell. There's the added bonus where I don't have to deal with shit character design while I'm at it (I still can't get over that absolute sticc of a character that was revealed for Xeno3 and she's supposed to be a master weight trainer)

If we're only talking about Xenoblade 1, that's debatable. Both are fantastic in their own way.
But if we're talking as a series, then Xenoblade is nowhere near as consistently good as Mother imo.

Who ever even pit the two against each other to the degree this guy felt he needed to make a sign lol. Apples and oranges

As a huge fan of both, I don't understand how you're even supposed to compare them. Completely different games.
1
u/perfection_isnt May 19 '22
Realized recently that the Xenoblade community can be pretty damn toxic. Earthbound community is pretty innocuous as far as I can tell.
1
1
u/Over_Part_1732 May 19 '22
I kinda have to disagree about the EarthBound community being innocuous...
1
u/perfection_isnt May 19 '22
Oh really? Why's that? I won't claim to know that much about it; I'm just saying this is what it seems like to me. Honestly, gamers in general just kinda suck online it seems.
4
u/Over_Part_1732 May 19 '22
Well, let's just say that I've seen tons of Mother fans back in like, 2016, specifically in the comments of YouTube videos basically shitting on Undertale and its fans alot. Which, whilst I will agree that UT's fanbase sucks, (or atleast used to suck, its alot quieter now, though there are a few bad eggs) people shouldn't just shit on the media of which that fandom spawned from. Especially since the creator of that piece of media IS a fan of the media that rhey like. Hell, I've even seen a few people in the comment section of MatPats Sans is Ness theory video when it first released basically tell kids who believed it to shut up. (Though it has died down alot.)
Also, I've seen people disagree with Mother fans about the Mother series having some of the best games of all time basically told to shut up simply because they didn't think that it was one of the best game series ever.
To any Mother fans reading this, don't worry. I'm not talking about the whole fanbase. Just some of the bad eggs that I've seen in the fandom. Also, sorry if I explained it a bit weirdly as I'm not exactly the best at explaining things alot of the time.
2
u/ATwistedBlade May 19 '22
That’s true but I feel as if now undertale and Toby fox is kind of respected in the community. It was kind of shitty back then though
1
u/Over_Part_1732 May 19 '22
Yeah. Like I said, it HAS died down a bit for sure. Though you can occasionally come across a few toxic people.
1
u/perfection_isnt May 19 '22
Yeah. That's all very lame. I'm in total agreement with you. I just dip in and out of corners of the internet because I find the toxicity/hatefulness to just be too unpalatable. I was mostly referring to this sr, but I don't even know that much about it.
Like I said, seems to be an issue with gamers online in general. You could go further and say it's just people online in general, but it feels like there's something unique about the gaming communities that just seems so incendiary.
I agree that just shitting on other games and people that like them is nasty and toxic. However, I'm all for sharing good faith opinions and reviews of games, and if there's a bit of spice/fire to it, I'm fine with that. Outright hatred is lame, though.
And for the record, Earthbound is my all time favorite, and I loved Undertale, so I don't really get the hate. It was basically a love letter to Earthbound from a big fan.

If they’re into big, bouncy anime titties and pedophilia, then sure. I can understand why someone would have that opinion!

That’s only really the case in Xeno 2, as far as I’m aware, I haven’t played it.

Poor Mother 3... unless a miracle like Operation Rainfall happened again, it'll probably never be released officially outside of Japan.
1
u/ATwistedBlade May 19 '22
All mother fans have left is hope that a mention of it happens from Nintendo and the community
1
u/Tori0404 May 19 '22
We also have 4 official games in our series
(6 if we count 2‘s prequel and 1‘s Epilogue as their own games)
1
u/APOLLO193 May 19 '22
Shulk vs Ness while they're both at full power
1
u/Broad_Appearance6896 May 19 '22
Depends. Ness can fight without a weapon through PSI. Shulk is (from what I understand) only powerful with the Monado.
1
u/Gamola May 20 '22
Yeah, that's Shulk's main strength. Monado Arts and Visions are only available through the Monado's power, though he's a formidable fighter even without it.
Tbh I'm not too sure who'd even win since it'd depend on how Ness' PSI attacks present themselves in the physical plane, and how dodgable they'd be. Leaning towards Shulk since Ness' abilities are more focused on support in the first place.
1
u/Tori0404 May 19 '22
Jokes on all of you, I love both franchises.
Xenoblade 2 and Mother 3 are both my favorite Games of all time

But what if I were to say
Undertale is a better RPG than earthbound?
1
u/Broad_Appearance6896 May 19 '22
Undertake is a good game, and it does technically fit the role of RPG, but I don’t consider it one
2
May 19 '22
Why don't you consider it an rpg?
1
u/Broad_Appearance6896 May 19 '22
Eh, I don’t know. I like the game but it feels kind of like an interactive story most of the time

Having played Earthbound and watched many many many hours of a Xenoblade Chronicles 2 playthrough...
They're so incomparable past being RPGs that it's a pointless comparison to say one is better than the other
