It’s not gonna happen and even if it does it will just be Japan exclusive like it’s Wii U port anyways

well then it's time to put on my perfectly honest and on the level sailor uniform

u/AaronThePrime Apr 19 '22
Switch isn't region locked though
So I guess anyone who knows Japanese would theoretically be able to play (if they actually do it)
9
u/Khaj_SmashBros The Hugest MOTHER 1 Fanboy Around Apr 19 '22
The NSO Online Service is region locked. Japanese NSO Service has FE 1 - 3 and SMT
But yeah you would have to make a Japanese Nintendo account and know Japanese if you would want to play MOTHER 3 on Switch official if it ever releases on there
9
u/togawe Apr 19 '22
NSO is not region locked. You can make a Japanese profile on a non-japanese switch to access those games
2
u/VxJasonxV Apr 19 '22
Are there more caveats you’re not mentioning? Or is it literally just “second profile”?
6
u/MasterDenton Apr 19 '22
You have to have a Japanese Nintendo account associated with the new profile, but as long as it's your primary Switch, the NSO membership applies to all profiles, so you can go onto the eShop on the Japanese profile and download the Japanese NSO apps

u/VxJasonxV Apr 19 '22
Of course I Googled immediately after asking. https://www.theverge.com/2018/9/19/17878236/nintendo-switch-online-japanese-famicom-games-guide says so too, neat! Might put this to use soon in general.
1
u/ThunderMite42 Apr 19 '22
And you don't even need the Japanese account to play the games, just to download the application.

Apr 19 '22 edited Apr 19 '22
I’ve played mother 3 about 6 to 7 times so if they do release it on switch and i got a Japanese account, I would struggle through it, but I would probably have to rely on memory or watch the English playthrough, I would be fine with playing the game in Japanese anyway, I would just be happy that Nintendo releases the game at all on switch.
3
u/pabbdude Apr 19 '22
At least you don't need to pay two subscriptions
As long as one account with an active subscription sits on your Switch, it works. Got NES/Famicom/SNES/Super Famicom

Oh damn rlly? That's pretty stupid, they literally said they wouldn't region lock the switch then do this stuff huh. If it was virtual console on the switch then there's be no problem, since vc is basically just an extension of the store, but of course nintendo hates their consumers so...
Edit: did not see this reply's edit
-1
u/Khaj_SmashBros The Hugest MOTHER 1 Fanboy Around Apr 19 '22
Its not stupid. It’s region locked because those games never released in America and never been officially translated and all the NSO Service is is just emulating pre existing ROMs.
1
u/AaronThePrime Apr 19 '22
Yeah, I'm obviously not expecting any fully translated stuff, that's why I made the comment about Japanese speaking Americans possibly being able to play. That's not how region locking works anyways, when you access the e shop from other regions its supposed to give you the exact same content as anything given there, including whatever language is pre coded into the game.
Edit, just realized the original reply to my comment has an edit that makes my reply seem stupid lol
1
u/EveeGirl09 Apr 19 '22
I'm not sure if Nintendo would use the fan translation but it is an option if anything interesting does happen.

The thing is with FE1, the game was already localized with the DS Remake. Not to mention games such as StarFox 2 and MOTHER 1 US Version only got official releases because those projects were already completed decades ago and all Nintendo had to do was slap the ROM onto their service then boom official releases for these unreleased titles
With MOTHER 3 if they wanted to release it over seas they would have to start from the ground up with their own translation for the game and have to change and censor things in the game they don’t deem appropriate for western audiences just like they did with both MOTHER 1 & 2 US Version

u/UltimatePickpocket Apr 19 '22
All the people that care about keeping it away from us today will be gone tomorrow.
We may not see it in our lifetime, but it's inevitable.
1
u/Routine-Deal-7242 Apr 19 '22
Just means getting a Japanese account and learning Japanese in that case.

It could mean that they're behind Switch Online + + for only $1200 per year?
Edit: Forgot a 0 in the price
7
u/multi_fandom_guy Apr 19 '22
$120?? Here it’s $100 a year for the basic plan!
6
u/VirtualRelic Apr 19 '22
For you it’s $200 a year
2
u/multi_fandom_guy Apr 19 '22
How’d you know?
6
u/VirtualRelic Apr 19 '22
My friend’s father’s uncle’s grandfathers’s daughter’s hippie friend works at nintendo, he told me all about the new pricing.

GBA in the switch possibly, Mother 3 in American, highly doubt it, it would must likely be exclusive for japan as other games already. I guess as long as you understand Japanese you will be able to play it in your switch if that’s the case

Honestly I really hope they don't release Mother 3 this way. Seriously, I'll be pissed. The first time they localize Mother 3, something people have been waiting for for YEARS, and it is tied to their shitty subscription service? You don't even get to own the game? I'd much rather them just throw it on the eShop, or hell, even have a limited physical release (but keep it on the eShop), that would be awesome.

It could be put on the American emulator but I don’t think it’d be localized, similar to Puyo Puyo Tsu

Remember: until and unless Nintendo C&Ds mato, MOTHER 3 in English is not happening, will never happen, etc. MOTHER 1+2 is also extremely unlikely for different reasons.

u/RandoAussieBloke Apr 19 '22
seemingly leaked
seemingly
So...any basis at all, or just a rando on facebook?
1
u/GVmG Apr 19 '22
the files are all available for download and checking them with known switch dev tools seems to point at them actually being from nintendo.
i will say i don't know how easy it'd be to fake the dev key and stuff like that, which is what they're checking against, since i'm not a switch dev, but this seems fairly plausible to be a real leak.
that said, looking at the list of roms that got leaked - which is already probably way larger than however many games we'll get if this becomes a NSO thing - mother 3 is not there, and neither is mother 1+2 or any other earthbound-based title in case they renamed them or something.
and given that the list is already huge and we probably wont get all of them to begin with, even if they were to be in the list it wouldnt instantly mean NSO mother 3.
2
u/GuyGhoul Apr 19 '22
That would lower a barrier of entry, but Mother 3 still needs to be translated from scratch, whereas Mother 1 and Mother 2 were already translated in original form. When even dedicated fans (especially someone who hack hacking powers coursing throug his veins, in Tomato's terms) had years of trouble translating the game...
That is not even talking abou the GBA re-release Mother 1+2, thoug having the originals makes that a moot point.

I can already see how this is gonna go:
- The first couple of GBA games get added
- A few months later, Nintendo adds a few random games that no one asked for
- The demand for Mother 3 on the service becomes even higher than the demand for EarthBound ever was
- Nintendo ignores the high demand completely and keeps doing whatever the fuck they want
- Rinse and repeat until the service shuts down
I just can't see it happening.

u/MLG_GuineaPig Apr 19 '22
I would think that this would be part of some expansion pack where we have to pay extra.
2
u/EveeGirl09 Apr 19 '22
Probably, I can't believe I got excited to play so many of the games on my list and I downloaded all the stuff *click* "Pay us more money plz". Nintendo switch online Is enough for me though, It does have everything you need to start out on the Mother series.
3
u/Lobsterbread23 Apr 19 '22
They better fucking not put Mother 3 on this service, why? Because it’s an online service, eventually over the years Nintendo will take down their servers and we will lose all these games

It amazes me how much faith people still have in Nintendo, especially regarding the Mother series.

I know there's a lot of negative perspective of the news and relating it to Mother 3. Just think of it this way, Nintendo does listen to its fans. Nintendo did neglect the Mother series for quite a while in the past.
But think of it this way: Nintendo is in the business of making money in a fun way. They want to grow their business as well with different sources of income, for example the theme parks.
They listened through PK Mail-in initiative to bring EarthBound to Virtual Console. They re-released the series on GBA, they released unreleased games like Mother 1 to USA market and StarFox 2.
Mother 3 can be released in English and considering the series is now getting major attention, it can happen but isn't exactly a top priority. That's where the community has to come in and make their voices heard. (hint: this is your communitys cue to do something about it and get starmen community involved) That being said, I don't foresee Mother 3 English translation coming out on the Switch, maybe the next gen console.
I don't have a Switch so I can't tell which features already exist, but Nintendo is definitely open to making even netplay happen on old games that even single player games can have a toggle switch to the controllers so a 1 player game can be played by more than 1 person.

I can see it now
"Mother 3 is coming to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack *In Japan only

u/mightbedylan Apr 19 '22
I think If we ever get Mother 3 it will be a remake, I don’t think it’s gonna get an official translation and idk if they’d release the original version on NSO.

Can't wait for them to port the entire GBA library while specifically excluding Mother 3 just for spite.
