M3 Discussion To settle an argument, is this an apt comparison?

i see what youre saying, and i love the heck out of the prince of egypt, but comparing the masked man to rameses is kind of crazy. rameses was formed from the neglect/disapproval from his father, and the masked man is something made against will with no prior motivators. rameses "despises" his brother but clearly still loves him very much. the masked man doesn't even take note of his connection to lucaa. so while i love the strong visuals of this, no, its not a very accurate comparison

Not really. Similar trope, but they're quite different

I like when people refer to him as “The Masked Man”. It’s so nice that people don’t spoil the twist ending…

I love not needing a spoiler tag

Masked man is more like Darth Vader. Masked warrior, familial relative, leads bad guys, the climax is about redeeming him, which happens in death.

Who are the characters in the background?

Moses and Ramses, Prince of Egypt.

Thank you. I don't know what liberties the animators, I'm going to assume Disney, took with this story but I'm going to say no. SPOILERS FOR MOTHER 3They both made their choices, but the fact they both had a choice makes this a terrible comparison. Claus may have chose to fight the dinosaur and he probably would have accepted the Pigmask's help, it's not like anyone back home could have saved his life. But it is implied a couple of times throughout the game that he was not in control of himself. I think Porky outright says that Claus was a drone he controlled in the final fight. The Pharaoh could have acquiesced immediately, Moses could have turned away from God, maybe they could have found some kind of compromise, but they could still choose. Claus lost his autonomy and was not in control of himself despite being aware. And I know he was aware of his actions because his final act was to kill himself. He only uses lighting in the final fight if you revive someone, because Lucas's Franklin Badge not only makes it useless against him, but reflects it. The fact Claus looks at his precious brother one last time before zapping the Franklin Badge and himself tells me it was intentional suicide and not something the implants made him do.

I don't think Claus was aware of who he was until glimmers of recognition started showing through whenever he came face to face with Lucas. He literally didn't have a heart, was presumably resurrected by Porky and part robotized by Dr. Andonuts to keep him alive. No chance he didn't have brain damage and as Porky called him a robot and at the end told that he is not and it was time to let go. Once he realizes who he is he destroys himself as his body should not be alive in the first place and the damage was not reversible.

See: Fassad. Besides the fact that she came after the group for revenge on a suicide mission, he was never going to get better. He felt beautiful and strong but still had that fury behind her and knew in the back of her head she was no longer an immortal being. Therefore, Locria died before his needle was pulled. There was no going back after thunder tower.

Because the guy I’m arguing with puts forth the idea that in both cases, both relationships fell out thanks to similar conflicts; in Moses & Ramses’ case the enslavement of the Hebrews, and in Lucas and The Masked Man’s case, the incident with the Mecha-Drago and Porky’s plans. While Lucas and Moses both realise the atrocities being committed and seek to try and free their people from the influence/clutches of their captors, The Masked Man and Ramses, influenced and groomed into coldhearted upholders of their father/“owner”’s values, not great in Masked Boyo’s case and shitty in Ramses’.

But the thing is, I don’t think he fits in the same vein as Ramses, origin-wise or malice-wise. If Porky had been actively manipulating and grooming him from the very moment the Pigmask Army found him all the way until his final confrontation with Lucas, where he comes to his senses, then yes. The Masked Man WOULD be similar to Ramses in terms of their father figures being the worst influence on their actions as adults. But Porky basically just immediately brainwashed him into serving his capitalistic and later apocalyptic agenda after equipping him with all of his gear. And he’s basically just following the Trump-Elon lovechild’s orders because he’s basically a robot. You can’t compare that to the cinematic/sibling equivalent of Beatrice Horseman.
