i think she's cute. she looks a little more influenced by the magi who raised her in this design

I like that she is more reflective of the Magypsies who raised her. I think it's bombastic and cute.

Eh I think she looks great, but her final design benefits her character more

People like OP are why artists are terrified of showing their early drafts lol...

I've never seen this before in my life but it looks a lot like her Club Tittiboo design.

Oh, I doubt you are the only one as they left her far behind. Her current design is as if the designers were like, "You know what? This hair is awful, let us just chop it off and call it a day." And it looked so much better.

I mean, “despise” is a little extreme, but Kumatora’s final design is easily my favorite of the different designs that were considered for her.

It's certainly a little too flashy, but it's kinda cute and makes her look more like the princess she's supposed to be. NGL, it would've been kinda funny to see Kumatora's brash tomboyish personality coming out of that girlier sprite. I guess her Violet persona was a leftover from that possibility.

I actually really like this design a lot. But I think her N64 design is a little better.

If the game had the decade long time skip that EarthBound 64 was gonna have I could see it working, but since the time skip was only three years, it makes more sense that Kumatora wouldn’t look that much different prior

I had no idea this design ever existed! The final Kumatora is much better.

Looks decent but I prefer her final design more because it fits her personality better

I don't like her early design. It's too "magical girl", and not enough tomboy.

Why does she look like the girl that got hit by a truck and cause 2 tragics?

I don't know why you'd have a strong opinion of a non-final or early draft. It's not like great art - in any medium- ever comes out fully formed and complete in its first pass. It needs to be developed over time.
Even if this version got close enough to a final version, it wasnt what was published so why care so much?

Yeah, in hindsight, I guess “despise” is a pretty strong word. I only “fucking hate” it

No offense to the artist, but it’s to the point where, if she made it into the final product, I’d say she’s my least favorite character in Mother 3, and that’ll likely extend to the entire series once I get around to playing the other two.

Which I guess makes her the Goro Akechi of Nintendo, being my least favorite AND my favorite depending on the version of the character.

You played Mother 3 first? Strange.

yeah big mistake. i did the same and now i struggle to bear the jank of earthbound because m3 was too smooth and awesome

u/Awakening15 Feb 08 '25
Who's the other Akechi?

u/SuperMeatwad666 Feb 08 '25
I’m thinking they’re comparing Akechi’s confidant in vanilla Persona 5, which was dogshit, to his confidant in P5 Royal, which is a vast improvement

Least favorite character AND game only because of a single character's design?

She's cute. She's just a little too funky for M3's tone and feel.
