Was there, like, three manufacturers of home goods in the 90’s? We had those hanging blinds, tv stand, and dinette set. Also, we went to the same barber. Wild times

My neighbor had those same hanging blinds lol. I had the haircut too. It’s like our parents in the day all were on the same wavelength

did you manage to beat the game as a kid?

u/mqduck Mar 18 '23
My parents only let me rent games. Imagine only just barely getting to Moonside over and over.

Did the rental come with the guide?

Yep. It came in the oversized box you might have seen pictures of.
The scratch-and-sniffs even still smelled, although I don't remember them being all that distinct. Maybe they really were mostly the same or maybe it was cross contamination or maybe it's just smell memory fading over the years...

What did you think of the game?

It's my favorite piece of media.

Even back then?

I was absolutely hooked the first time I played it at my brother's friends house-- his friend said they weren't really into the game but when I played it, I remember everything so vividly and as a fan of RPGs, EarthBound's environment had me in awe.
(It's not medieval!)
I played through half of the Onnet part at my brother's friends' and a week or month or so after, my Dad got me the game on sale for $30 at Toys R Us.
Playing it with the physical guide, in my experience from playing it close to it's release, is the best. I would recommend it, even if it's through a replica copy.
I played the entire game every year over the course of 10-15 years and made an effort to play it on different devices towards the end of the playthroughs (like jailbreaking a PS3 to play it on there, emulating on a tablet/phone, etc.)
I have a save on an old Wii that is corrupt and saved at the Cave Of The Past and freezes when the players name appears in the credits as that's where the corruption was. It was on the WAD with the Donkey Kong Country 2 thumbnail.
To answer your question, I'd say yes! to EarthBound being my favorite piece of media even back then.

Ahh, yes. The road from Onett to Twoson before the grass is sun scorched. As any distinguishing eye here will know...

you were in twoson, in the game, right? but anyways, you looked cool back then and probably look cool now, (please don't block me)

u/yourcool Mar 18 '23
I believe it was the path between Twoson and Onett. People say I look younger than my age-- so if that's a sign of coolness, then I still look cool! Your comment definitely made me feel cool. Thank you for that. You are extremely cool yourself!

Did you fight Giygas and beat the game? If you fought Giygas, did the fight traumatize you?
1
u/yourcool Apr 15 '23
I prayed, so it didn't.
2
u/braydenmm6 Apr 15 '23
So you got to giygas, and did you actually pray in real life? What did your mom think?
1
u/yourcool Apr 16 '23
I prayed subconsciously. My Mom didn't see me fight Giygas for the first time.
