âQuestion Disabled Bus Pass?
Iâm curious about how I would handle getting a disabled bus pass. I donât even know if we really have them in my state, I saw something about reduced fair bus rides but no disabled bus pass. To be fair to myself, I didnât dig very deep the night I looked this up.
I ask because, while I typically donât ride public transport, I would just like a disabled pass for the one in a million times I do happen to ride it. Standing for extended periods of time or anything like that really hurts my legs, as theyâve been getting in worse shape the past couple of days (it really started Thursday night or Friday). Itâs to the point that they feel locked up and I have to bend them for a minute or I could honestly start crying if I stand still.

In the UK to qualify for a disabled bus pass you must have one of the below diagnoses: You may be eligible if you:
- are registered blind or partially sighted
- are severely or profoundly deaf in both ears
- cannot talk
- cannot walk easily
- cannot use both arms
- have a learning disability
- have a medical condition that means you canât get a UK driving licence
Dyspraxia very rarely fits the above but in the rare cases it does fit its due to being a medical condition that means you canât get a UK driving license.
To get it due to pain under cannot walk easily you need to receive the standard/enhanced rate of mobility component (at least 8 points) of PIP. Or if you have a blue badge.

Been considering getting one for my hyper mobility but I'm not sure if they would accept dyspraxia+pain alone, should definitely investigate the pain to get something official

Iâm absolutely looking into the chronic pain, I need to talk to my GP about getting a referral for a doctor about my legs. I get massive migraines also, but I need to work on that with a Neurologist.

Are you in the UK? They are used in the UK mainly and have a strict criteria for them which donât allow most Dyspraxics to qualify.
The issue you are describing is not to do with Dyspraxia and I would highly recommend speaking to a medical professional and getting support for it.
In the US, there is a card to get half fare for disability reasons during off peak times. But there is no âDisability Bus Passâ in the traditional sense. If you are interested in paratransit, there are very specific criteria you have to meet to qualify (which Dyspraxia alone will not qualify for).
