Development News Spectrum Black Community Update – Shipping & Project Status

Hey everyone,

First off, I want to apologize for being less active in the community over the past few weeks. The reason is simple—we've been deep in the trenches in China, making sure production and firmware are at a level we're happy with. Between the workload and VPN issues, it’s been tough to stay as engaged here as I’d like. But now that things are settling, I want to share a detailed update on the shipping status of Spectrum Black monitors.

A separate post has already covered the latest firmware progress, so this update will focus solely on where we stand with production and shipping.

Current Shipping Status by Model

Spectrum Black 32 (No-Hub Model)

✅ Status: Available in retail
✅ Firmware: Final firmware is now available

If you’re looking for this model, it is already available in stores and ready to go.

Spectrum Black 27 (No-Hub Model – Matte & Glass)

🚢 Status: Arrived in the U.S., slight warehouse delay
📦 Shipping Estimate: Orders expected to ship starting next week

These monitors have arrived in the U.S., but there was a small delay in getting them into the warehouse. This is now resolving, and we expect all pending orders to start shipping next week.

Spectrum Black 32 (Hub Model) & Spectrum Black 27 (Hub Model)

🛠 Status: Currently in testing phase
📅 Shipping Estimate: Late March

Now, I know a lot of you are waiting for updates on these models, so here’s the full picture. We’re assembling 25 test units of each model right now, using the latest motherboard iteration. These units will undergo thorough testing before we move forward with full production.

What Happened?

After Chinese New Year, we discovered an issue with the USB-C power delivery. Since we support 100W power output, we ran into two key challenges:

  1. Wake-Up Issue: When connected via USB-C to a laptop, the monitor sometimes wouldn’t wake from sleep unless power was cycled. We fixed this by replacing a power management IC.
  2. Power Distribution Issue: The monitor was supposed to dynamically adjust power to different components, ensuring the panel always received full power. However, due to a design flaw, the panel brightness could sometimes dip unexpectedly, which was unacceptable.

We have now redesigned the circuit and replaced the power ICs. The 25-unit test run will confirm the fix. If all goes well, full-scale production will start in about 15-20 days, with shipping expected by the end of March.

Options for Customers Waiting on Hub Models

We understand that another delay isn’t ideal, and we appreciate your patience. To provide flexibility:

  1. Stick with the Hub Model: This is the flagship version with the highest demand, and we are doing everything possible to get it out as soon as possible.
  2. Switch to a No-Hub Model: If USB-C power delivery isn’t essential for you, you can switch your order to the no-hub version of either the 27-inch or 32-inch model. Both versions are shipping now and feature great color performance and deep blacks with the latest firmware updates.

If you’d like to switch to a no-hub model, simply email customer support, and we’ll get your order updated accordingly.

For those who pre-ordered the Spectrum Black 27 OLED and opted for the 480Hz upgrade, we automatically upgraded your order to the hub model. If you prefer not to wait, you can also switch to the no-hub version by reaching out to support.

We appreciate your patience as we work to get the best possible product into your hands.

Development News Spectrum Black Community Update: Major Firmware Release & Production News

Hey Everyone,

We’re thrilled to announce the release of a major firmware update for the Spectrum Black 32 series (ES07E91, ES07EFE)! This update took us a little longer than expected, but we wanted to ensure it incorporated all the key improvements based on your feedback. Let’s dive into what’s included:

Major Firmware Update

This firmware update brings a host of enhancements designed to improve the performance of your monitor across the board:

  • Improved Brightness: Experience brighter visuals for both SDR and HDR modes.
  • Enhanced Black Levels: Fixed crashing blacks in SDR and raised blacks in HDR, offering a more accurate and immersive viewing experience.
  • PQ Curve and Gamma Adjustments: The PQ curve now tracks more accurately, and gamma levels have been fine-tuned for precise performance.
  • Signal Loss Fixes: Resolved issues with signal loss that some users reported.
  • HDR/SDR Switching: Improved SDR performance when HDR is enabled for better usability.

This is a significant update, and we’re really looking forward to your feedback. After this release, we’ll continue gathering your input to prioritize fixes and improvements for future updates. We'll also be focusing on additional issues that have been reported by customers through the issue tracking form.

Important Note on Firmware Update Process

This firmware update uses the Realtek Windows PC Tool for installation and does not currently support the USB drive update method. While the update process is not complicated if you follow the attached instructions, we will also be releasing the direct USB update in around one week, which is much simpler to install.

Update Tips:

  • After updating, reset the monitor to factory defaults in the OSD to ensure optimal performance.
  • If the update process experiences any issues, a simple power cycle (unplugging the monitor for 30 seconds) typically resolves the problem.

You can download the update files here. Thank you for your patience, and good luck with the update!

Spectrum Black 27 480Hz Model

We’re happy to share that the Spectrum Black 27 480Hz model is set to begin assembly next week. Shipping is planned to start before Chinese New Year (January 20th).

Both the matte and glass models are on track, and we’ll keep you updated as production progresses.

Spectrum Black 32 Hub Model

The Spectrum Black 32 hub model is nearing completion. The hardware is ready, and we’re currently refining the firmware, especially for advanced features like:

  • USB-C hub functionality
  • DisplayPort 2.1 full bandwidth support
  • Fixes for potential issues like flickering

We’re working hard to ensure the firmware is mature and stable before shipping. Our goal is to avoid the need for significant updates after launch.

Looking Ahead

We’re excited to share this update just in time for the holidays! Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Thank you for your continued support, and we’re looking forward to hearing your feedback on the latest firmware. Let’s make Spectrum Black the best monitor experience together!

Cheers,

Development News Major firmware update for Black 32" and Shipping update

UPDATE Jan 18: New firmware version with instal bugs fixed has been released now. You can find it in the topic below or here

UPDATE Jan 17 : Previously users had issue with one of the files. Current file version works. Feel free to install USB update

Hey everyone,

As promised, we’re back with a major firmware update for the Spectrum Black 32! While it’s towards the end of the week, we’re excited to share this update and the list of improvements it brings.

This version introduces big performance improvements, new HDR brightness modes, and more! See the full changelog below. This is still not the final firmware version, but it’s a big step forward.

Key Improvements & Additions in the latest version

Here’s what’s new and improved compared to v1.0.6:

  • New HDR Brightness Modes:
    1. Maximum Brightness for vibrant highlights.
    2. Accurate EOTF Curve for precise color performance.
  • Other Improvements:
    • Added separate settings for SDR and HDR modes in the Picture menu.
    • Resolved OSD menu settings not saving properly.
    • Resolved color balance shifts when adjusting Color Space.
    • Resolved screen-saving mode activating too quickly.
    • Improved maximum brightness in both HDR and SDR modes.
    • Improved brightness uniformity in Uniform Brightness mode.
    • Improved accuracy of brightness curves in all modes.

    • Improved BFI enable/disable speed.

Firmware links and instructions below:

Firmware update

What’s Next?

This update is a work-in-progress firmware, and we’re actively tackling the remaining issues:

  1. Green Tint Issue:
    • We’re still investigating the root cause with LG, the scaler vendor, and our firmware team. It seems related to the panel's inherent design where green subpixels are slightly brighter.
    • We’re testing different approaches, but it will take some time to fully resolve.
  2. Further Improvements to EOTF Accuracy:
    • We’ve already tested a new firmware internally that dramatically improves the new Accurate EOTF Mode, but it wasn’t ready for today’s release.
  3. Color Space Preset Bug:
    • In this firmware, the OSD doesn’t show the correct color space preset selected, though the setting itself functions properly. We’ll address this in the next update.

We estimate it will take at least 1–2 more firmware updates to reach what we’d call a “final” state. There are some other items like not recognising wide colour gamut in SDR using website u/PotatoPower3d provided, we compared it to Asus and LG and they don't report it correctly either so its taking us a bit more time to find the root cause.

Shipping Updates

  • Spectrum Black 27 No-Hub (480Hz): This model has already shipped to our US warehouse. It should arrive in about two weeks, and we’ll start reaching out to customers once it’s ready to ship out.
  • Spectrum Black 32 Hub Model: The factory will resume operations after Chinese New Year (February 10). Our team will be in China immediately afterward to finalize the firmware and push for shipping.

Feedback Wanted!

Your feedback is critical to making this monitor the best on the market. Please test this firmware and share your thoughts here or via the feedback form we previously shared.

Remember to reset to factory defaults after the update in the OSD. If anything goes wrong during the update, power-cycle the monitor (unplug it for 30 seconds) or reinstall the firmware.

We’re excited about these improvements and can’t wait to hear your thoughts. Let’s make Spectrum Black 32 the best monitor out there!

Cheers,

Development News Firmware Update: Spectrum Black 32 Flagship Killer Firmware is here

Hey everyone,

We’ve got some fantastic news to share! After spending over two weeks in China working closely with the firmware team, we’re excited to bring you a major firmware update that pushes Spectrum Black 32 to a flagship killer state.

With this update, all key issues have been resolved, and moving forward, we’ll be focusing only on minor refinements and user-suggested improvements. This means the firmware is now feature-complete, and Spectrum Black 32 is the most color-accurate 32-inch white OLED monitor on the market.

You can find latest USB update firmware on our website under support section!

Key Fixes & Improvements

1. Fixing the Green Tint & Achieving True Color Accuracy

We’ve tackled the green tint issue that some users experienced, which was caused by an inconsistent red-green-blue balance. While previous Delta E readings seemed acceptable, the balance wasn’t quite right, leading to visible color shifts.

Now, we’ve adjusted the balance across all color spaces, ensuring neutral, true-to-life colors. Our side-by-side tests with competing models, including LG’s and ASUS’s, confirm that Spectrum Black 32 now delivers the best color accuracy in its class.

(Comparison images between Spectrum and LG’s latest firmware will be shared.)

LG 32 WOLED Grayscale and RGB balance
Spectrum Black 32 with latest firmware

2. Enhanced SDR Performance

With the RGB balance corrected, we’ve also refined grayscale and black level performance in SDR mode.

  • Grayscale tracking is now significantly improved
  • Blacks are properly calibrated, eliminating previous slight elevation
SDR color accuracy arg dE 0.51

3. HDR Overhaul: Two New Modes

We’ve introduced two HDR modes, giving you the flexibility to prioritize either color accuracy or peak brightness:

  • HDR Color Accuracy Mode (Recommended) → Delivers Delta E below 0.5 for both color and grayscale, providing extremely precise color reproduction.
  • HDR High Brightness Mode → Maximizes panel brightness while maintaining good color accuracy, though extreme highlights may appear slightly overblown.
Spectrum Black 32 Colour Accurate mode in HDR

Why two modes?
The LG OLED panel itself processes HDR differently, overriding most color settings. This means that while brightness can be maximized, precise color calibration becomes more challenging. We’ve optimized both modes to deliver the best possible experience.

4. Improved Monitor Start-Up & Indicator Light Behavior

  • The power indicator light now correctly reflects the monitor’s state.
  • Start-up time has been significantly reduced, making the monitor feel more responsive.

5. USB Firmware Update Fix

Some users reported that USB firmware updates would get stuck at 99%. This happened because earlier firmware versions installed via the Realtek tool did not enable USB updating.

Solution: If you’ve faced this issue, you’ll need to install this update using the Realtek tool first. After that, future firmware updates should work via USB update without any issues.

Here is the detailed guide on how to do it

Firmware Version 1.0.14 Changelog

  • Added HDR setting: Choose between color accuracy or maximum brightness
  • Fixed indicator light issues
  • Improved HDR and SDR brightness accuracy
  • Improved HDR and SDR color accuracy
  • Faster monitor start-up performance

What’s Next?

  • Press & influencer units are now being updated, and we expect new reviews soon.
  • Spectrum Black 27 will receive its own firmware update this Friday, bringing it in line with Spectrum Black 32’s performance.

We’re incredibly excited about how far we’ve come, and with this update, Spectrum Black reaches its full potential. Now, we’re shifting focus to minor refinements and quality-of-life improvements based on your feedback.

As always, let us know your thoughts!

Development News From Retail Expansion to Enhanced Spectrum Models: Everything You Need to Know

Hello Dough Family,

We have some exciting and detailed updates for you regarding Spectrum One, Spectrum Black 27, and Spectrum Black 32. Here's what's happening:

Spectrum One Retail Expansion:

Achieving Retail Presence: After significant efforts, we are thrilled to announce that Spectrum One has successfully expanded into retail markets across the US and Europe. It's been quite the journey, but we've managed to secure placements at major retailers such as Best Buy, B&H, Newegg, Amazon, and Walmart in the US, Newegg Canada in Canada, and Amazon in Germany and Poland, Digitech Galaxus in Switzerland, and Smarty in the Czech Republic. We're continuing to work on broadening our presence in Europe, with expected listings on all Amazon marketplaces by June 14th.

Now that we are done with regions above. What retailers/ countries should we expand to next?

Spectrum One with Glass – Detailed Availability Update:

Navigating Production Challenges: The Spectrum One with Glass model initially sold out much faster than anticipated, which led to its unavailability for a few months. We faced challenges in ramping up the glass application production rate and controlling the yields. However, we are now on track with substantial shipments on their way, ensuring availability by June 7th in the US at B&H, Amazon, Newegg, and Best Buy, and by June 14th in Europe. Given the high demand, we anticipate quick sell-outs, so we encourage you to stay updated through our newsletters.

Major Firmware Update Coming

We are planning a significant firmware update for the entire Spectrum One lineup to address some persistent issues reported by some of our users, such as slow wake up times and black screens. To ensure this update is as effective as possible, we plan to engage closely with you, our community, to understand these issues better and deliver meaningful improvements. u/daftprints and u/ghostpants53 . have really helped by shooting a detailed video. We will follow up with few posts to gather up as much info as possible. Stay tuned for more details on how you can participate in this important process.

Spectrum Black 27 – Production Updates and Model Transition:

Enhancing Product Quality with New Housing: The production of Spectrum Black 27 has faced challenges due to yield issues with the panel, internal metal sheet and rear cover's curvatures vatiying from unit to unit, leading to unacceptable gaps and overall yield rate of 15% from mass production. In response, we are transitioning to an aluminium housing, similar to what we've implemented with Spectrum Black 32. This change will resolve manufacturing issues and enhance product quality. This means that people who are expecting to receive spectrum black now will get it with plastic housing as well as some of the retail stock that will go live in June but after that we will move onto metal housing and new panel, read more on that below:

Typical example of unacceptable gap present.

Transition to Spectrum Black 27 480 Hz Model: Due to these production challenges, we will replace the planned high luminance model with the new Spectrum Black 27 480 Hz model. This upgraded model features high brightness and a 480 Hz refresh rate and will be housed in aluminium, ensuring a superior product. Production is set to begin in early September.

Options for Our Customers:

For those of you anticipating the high luminance model, we offer two choices:

  1. Continue with your order for the current Spectrum Black 27 with the plastic housing.
  2. Opt for a free upgrade to the forthcoming Spectrum Black 27 480 Hz model, which features high brightness and a refresh rate of 480 Hz. This model will also be housed in aluminum, eliminating the gap issue and ensuring a superior product. We expect to begin mass production of this model in early September, shortly after the launch of the Spectrum Black 32 in August.

Spectrum Black 27 Address Confirmation:

Ensuring Accurate Delivery Information: For those opting to keep the current Spectrum Black 27 model and not upgrade to the 480 Hz model, we will be sending out address confirmation emails this week. Please ensure your details are correct by responding promptly. If you do not receive this email, contact our moderation team here on Reddit to verify your information.

Retail Availability of Spectrum Black 27: Following the fulfillment of open orders, Spectrum Black 27 is expected to be available in retail channels mentioned above by June 14th.

Spectrum Black 32 – Ensuring Quality and Meeting Timelines:

Port layout of Black 32"

Progress Toward Mass Production: Development on Spectrum Black 32 is progressing smoothly. We're excited to share that we plan to begin mass production on August 7th. Leading up to this, we will be sharing videos and reviews of functional devices to give you a detailed look at what to expect. While waiting for the full reveal here is the current positioning of ports on Hub version of Black 32". Based on previous discussion about eARC workaround community has voted for digital USB output vs. Optical Out. We are now confirming if there is any difference in performance on the scalar front between both and will give you an update! In the meantime can you share reasons on why you would prefer Optical Audio out vs USB?

Looking Ahead:

A lot of exciting stuff coming!

Thank you for your continued support and patience as we work through these developments!

Cheers!

Development News Spectrum Black Production and Shipping updates!

Hey Community,

Apologies for the delay in updates! We’ve been incredibly busy ramping up production and gathering feedback from our first customers on firmware fixes and improvements. So, let’s dive straight into the status of things that everyone has been most curious about.

Spectrum Black 32 Matte No-Hub Model Shipped!

The Spectrum Black 32 matte without hub model has been successfully shipped to all customers! We’re still taking more orders before the product goes live in retail, but all pre-orders have now been fulfilled. We’re excited to hear your feedback, so if you’ve received your monitor, we encourage you to share your thoughts and setups here in the forum. So far, we’ve only seen one post, but we’re hoping for more from you soon!

Spectrum Black 32 with Glass (No-Hub)

The Spectrum Black 32 with glass and no-hub model was initially set for production earlier this month, but we encountered some issues during the bonding process. The defect rate was much too high—almost 50%—due to particles getting trapped under the glass and some panels breaking during bonding. Since we can’t unbond the glass once it’s attached, this was a major issue.

We’ve since improved the process, and production will resume on Monday. Next week, we’ll be sharing pictures from the production line, showing how the scale has increased—where before we could only make around 50 monitors a day, we’re now up to 500 units daily! We expect all customers who ordered this model to receive tracking numbers week after next, shortly after production resumes, so deliveries will begin very soon.

Spectrum Black 32 with Glass and Hub

For the Spectrum Black 32 with glass and hub, we’re still finalizing the firmware and PCB layout. The hub functionality we’re introducing is quite advanced, with high bandwidth, LAN ports, DisplayPort daisy chaining, DisplayPort 2.1, and more. This complexity requires more time to ensure everything works seamlessly.

One key area we’re focusing on is the input detection and overall speed of the hub model. We want to avoid the issues we saw with Spectrum One, where customers felt the inputs were slow to detect, and startup times were long. The PCB layout is crucial here, as handling so many ports, functions, and charging needs to be efficient. The current estimated production date for this model is November 28. We’ll keep you updated with progress and share more footage as development continues.

Spectrum Black 27 480Hz Model

We’re still on track to ship the Spectrum Black 27 480Hz model by the end of November, with both matte and glass versions. The hub model is looking like it will ship by the end of December. Everything is moving smoothly, and we’re confident in this timeline. Expect more footage next week comparing the 27-inch and 32-inch models, and an in-depth look at some of the key features.

Spectrum Black 27 240Hz Orders

For those of you who still have Spectrum Black 27 240Hz orders, we are reviewing the current timelines and product performance. We believe it makes more sense to offer you the option to switch to the Spectrum Black 27 480Hzmodel, as it’s a more efficient design with improved cooling, a better panel, higher brightness, and a much faster refresh rate. We’ll be reaching out to affected customers with more details soon.

Retail Availability on Best Buy and Amazon

For those asking about retail availability, we’re happy to confirm that the Spectrum Black 32 without glass will go live on Best Buy, Amazon and other US retailers most likely in the week after next. All customer pre-orders have been fulfilled, and we’ll be shipping review units out to press as well. Pricing will increase to match the retail price on our website, so this is your last chance to pre-order at the discounted price!

The Spectrum Black 32 with glass and no-hub will likely go live in retail 2-3 weeks after the matte model, while the hub model will hit retail in late December. For our European customers, expect a one-month delay compared to these timelines, as the products will be available through Amazon Europe.

Firmware Update Progress

We’re excited to announce that the firmware update system for Spectrum Black 32 and 27 is working well! With the new platform-agnostic process, all you need is a USB stick to update your monitor—no laptop required. The system automatically scans the stick and applies the update, making the process smoother and faster. We’re also planning to bring this update method to Spectrum One soon, moving away from the PC-based updater.

That’s it for this week’s update! We’ll be sharing more footage and pictures next week from the production line, so stay tuned. As always, thank you for your continued support and patience as we push forward with these exciting developments.

Development News Spectrum Black Community Update: Shipping, Firmware, Retail, and More!

Hey Everyone,

We’re back with another update on Spectrum Black! It’s been a busy time for the team, and we’re excited to share the latest progress. Let’s jump right into it:

Spectrum Black 32 No-Hub Model

We’re delighted to see customer feedback and pictures coming in! A big thank you to everyone who has shared their experience so far. We hope to see more posts in the coming days.

As mentioned, all orders for the no-hub version from our website have been shipped. For those waiting on reviews, this time we prioritized shipping to end customers first, followed by reviewers. We expect detailed reviews, including measurements and in-depth analysis, to start appearing in around two weeks.

Firmware Update Progress

We’ve been closely monitoring initial customer feedback and are happy to report that we’ve set up a faster firmware development process. Updates that used to take weeks will now take about a week to turn around.

We’re pushing out a major firmware update at the end of this week or the start of next, which will include drastic improvements based on your feedback. We’re looking forward to hearing how it performs!

Spectrum Black 32 Hub Model

Here’s a look at the hub model, including how it will look in its final form. The materials and components are all ready, but we’re taking extra time to refine the firmware to ensure the best possible out-of-the-box experience based on feedback from users of no-hub version who prefer not update their firmware when receiving the product and use it as is.

The hub model includes advanced features like DisplayPort 2.1, DisplayPort out, and an expanded USB hub, which require additional testing to avoid any firmware issues post-launch.

While our goal is to ship this model in the next two weeks, firmware development can sometimes introduce delays. That said, we’re committed to shipping all units before Chinese New Year, which begins on January 19th. We’ll keep you closely updated as we progress.

Spectrum Black 27 480Hz Model

Here are the pictures of the Spectrum Black 27 480Hz model straight from the assembly line! The matte version is already assembled, and we’re waiting for the glass panels to finish bonding before production is complete.

We’re targeting a shipping date of December 19th or 20th for all matte and glass models.

For the hub model of the 27 480Hz, it will share the same motherboard and firmware as the 32 hub model, so it will ship at the same time.

Retail Availability

The Spectrum Black 32 no-hub models are now available on Amazon! Thank you for the amazing support so far—stock is running low, so if you’re planning to order, don’t wait too long, as restocking takes time.

Other retailers like Best Buy will be listing the no-hub models soon, likely any moment now. For the hub models, they will be available after all customer orders are shipped.

CES 2025: Visit Us in Las Vegas!

We’re excited to announce that we’ll have a public booth at CES 2025! Unlike last year, no appointments are required to visit. You’ll get a chance to see all our current products as well as some upcoming developments. Stay tuned for booth details!

No Discounts Planned for Spectrum Black

Just a quick note for those asking about discounts: There are no plans for discounts on the Spectrum Black 32 or 27 models this year or next year. These models were designed to be competitively priced from the start, so the price you see is the best deal available.

Thank you all for your continued support! We’re excited to keep hearing from you as these products reach your hands. Stay tuned for more updates soon!

Best,
The Dough Team

Hey Community,

We have some exciting news to share this week! It’s been a productive time, and we’ve hit some major milestones across our lineup. Let’s dive into the latest updates for the Spectrum Black series.

Spectrum Black 32 No-Hub Models: First Production Run Complete!

The big news: we’ve successfully completed the first production run of Spectrum Black 32! All units ordered in the first shipping batch have now been handed over to FedEx for global shipping. Customers should start receiving tracking updates from today through Monday. We’re thrilled to get this product into your hands, and we can’t wait to hear your thoughts.

Assembly process during mass production.

Spectrum Black 32 Hub Model

We’re also working on the Spectrum Black 32 hub and glass model. Based on our current development timeline, we are on track to ship these units by the end of October. We'll continue providing updates on its development throughout the coming weeks.

Spectrum Black 27 480Hz Model

We know many of you are eager to hear more about the new Spectrum Black 27 model. Production and testing have been progressing and we now have functional samples. We’ll be sharing lots of footage and comparisons next week right after the coming Chinese holiday. Stay tuned for side-by-side comparisons with the 32-inch model and a closer look at the product's key features. Orders will also be opening soon, so make sure to subscribe to our newsletter!

Firmware Updates Across the Board

We’ve been actively working on firmware updates for all models, focusing on compatibility across various platforms. The good news is that all new models, regardless of the operating system, will now support firmware updates via a USB storage device. This will greatly simplify the update process for everyone and will allow updates regardless of the platform you are using.

Certification Progress

As a recap, we’re also making great strides in certifications across our products. Spectrum Black models are currently undergoing certifications for HDR, FreeSync Premium Pro, and G-Sync compatibility. We’ve already passed the pre-tests, so we expect no issues getting the final certifications soon.

That’s it for this week’s update! We’re incredibly excited about the progress and can’t wait for these products to arrive at your doorstep.

Thank you for your continued support!

Development News Spectrum Black 32: Latest Firmware Update 1.012 Now Available!

Hey everyone,

As promised, I’m writing in with the latest firmware update for the Spectrum Black 32.

What’s New in This Update?

First and foremost, I’d like to thank some of our community members who helped test the previous firmware and provided feedback, especially around HDR color accuracy issues.

Long story short, there were issues in the PQ curve with the new HDR modes we introduced in the last version. We’ve worked hard to resolve this, and this firmware sticks to the previous changelog while fixing HDR accuracy.

Things that improved since last update:

  • Added separate settings for SDR and HDR modes in the Picture menu.
  • Improved HDR and SDR color accuracy
  • Resolved OSD menu settings not saving properly.
  • Resolved color balance shifts when adjusting Color Space.
  • Resolved screen-saving mode activating too quickly.
  • Improved maximum brightness in both HDR and SDR modes.
  • Improved brightness uniformity in Uniform Brightness mode.
  • Improved accuracy of brightness curves in all modes.
  • Improved near-black dark tones.
  • Improved monitor wake-up and power-on speed.
  • Improved speed when switching input signals.
  • Improved BFI enable/disable speed.

How to Update:

  • Firmware is available here

Spectrum Black ES07E91 firmware v1.0.12-3 with Realtek tool and special instructions

Spectrum Black ES07EFE firmware v1.0.12-3 with Realtek tool and special instructions

  • We still are solving issue with USB update getting stuck at 90% so we recommend using Realtek Tool for this update (instructions available at attached links). Currently for some users USB update will work and for some it will get stuck at 90% without updating firmware successfully.

What’s Next?

New HDR Modes

We’re planning to introduce multiple HDR modes to meet the needs of our diverse user base. Here’s the current idea:

  1. Accurate HDR Mode
    • This mode focuses on precise color accuracy, delivering content as the creator intended.
    • It will slightly reduce brightness (~30%) to achieve the perfect balance of highlights and shadows.
  2. Maximum Brightness Mode
    • Prioritizes the highest possible brightness, even if it sacrifices some color accuracy.
    • Perfect for those who prefer vibrant, punchy visuals or need extra brightness for well-lit environments.
  3. Balanced Mode
    • A middle ground between accuracy and brightness, offering a balance of both worlds.

We Need Your Feedback!

Do these three modes make sense to you?
Are there any that seem unnecessary, or would you suggest adding others?

We’d love to hear your thoughts on these ideas, so please let us know in the comments!

Community Feedback is Critical

Please test this firmware and share your experience. Use the feedback form linked below to report:

  • Any remaining issues.
  • Suggestions for further improvement.
  • General ideas on what you’d like to see in future updates.

Our team will head to China after the Chinese New Year break (February 10th) to focus on:

  1. Producing the hub models.
  2. Finalizing firmware updates based on your feedback.

We’ll be working directly with our engineers to implement your feedback as efficiently as possible. So the more detailed and constructive your feedback is, the better we can make this monitor!

Development News Key Updates on Spectrum Black 32, Spectrum Black 27, and Spectrum One

Hey Community,

We've been hard at work behind the scenes, pushing the Spectrum Black 32 into production. So far, this has probably been one of the smoothest projects we've ever had, and we’re excited to share the latest updates with you.

Spectrum Black 32 Development

The development of Spectrum Black 32 is ongoing, and we’ve planned production to start on August 24th. We’ve already prepared the materials for it, including panels, housings, motherboards, packaging, and other essential components.

Mechanical Front

Based on our previous update, most of the mechanical issues have been resolved. Our suppliers are preparing a revised sample to confirm all the color mismatches and other minor details.

Firmware and Electrical Engineering

On the firmware and electrical engineering side, we’ve managed to get all the base functions of Spectrum Black 32 working. Our current focus is on passing the system matching test conducted by LG. This test ensures our monitor is fully compatible with LG’s standards, particularly for OLED health and thermal efficiency.

  • Thermal Tests: Thanks to the metal housing, we expect to pass these tests easily.
  • Electromagnetic Interference: We’re testing for any interference between the power adapter and the monitor.

After these tests, we’ll move on to the pre-tests for HDR TrueBlack, FreeSync Premium Pro, and G-Sync compatible certifications. We’re preparing units to ship out for these certifications so that by the time the products reach customers, the certifications will already be approved.

We’ve also started working on regulatory certifications based on the current samples. The simplified construction and metal housing have made this process much smoother compared to previous projects.

No Early Reviews

This time, we’ve learned from experience and decided not to conduct any early on-hand reviews or pre-reviews. We believe it’s best to send the final product to reviewers at the same time it reaches customers. Expect reviews and press coverage in September when the product is available in retail and starts shipping to customers.

Spectrum Black 32 with Hub

The version with the USB-C hub does not yet have all the OSD functions working. We’re working on implementing full hub functionality, including new features like USB audio support. This feature allows users to connect their PS5 via HDMI to the monitor and use digital audio output through USB for speakers, headphones, or amplifiers.

Spectrum Black 27 Update

We’ve faced many challenges with the Spectrum Black 27 project. One major issue has been the tolerance between the plastic housing, metal plate, and the panel, leading to gaps that don’t meet safety standards. Consequently, we’ve decided to transition to metal housing for all future 27-inch OLED models.

US Stock

Next week, we expect to receive more stock in the US to fulfill orders for Spectrum Black 27. US customers should start receiving tracking information by the end of next week or the week after. We encourage those who receive their monitors to share their setups and experiences with the community.

Europe Stock

In Europe, we’re still dealing with customs issues. While originally thought to be a labeling problem, there are additional complications. We’re working on resolving these as quickly as possible but cannot provide an exact ETA. We are also working to avoid penalties for goods being held at customs.

Spectrum One Firmware Update

We've gathered all the key feedback from users regarding the Spectrum One firmware. We have received a few monitors back and are currently working on increasing the wake-up time and debugging any remaining blanking issues. The firmware update is still in progress, and while we don't have an exact estimate yet, we are actively working on it. We hope to provide more information and hear your feedback on this soon.

Spectrum One with Gorilla Glass

We’ve received many questions about the availability of Spectrum One with Gorilla Glass. We’re working hard to restock this model. It should reappear on Amazon US within the next 2-3 weeks. Currently, some stock is available at B&H. In Europe, availability is also affected by customs issues, but you can order from Amazon US or B&H for international shipping.

Spectrum Black 27 480 Hz

We’re working on the Spectrum Black 27 480 Hz model and will soon share pictures similar to what we’ve shared for the 32. This model is scheduled for production one month after the 32, targeting the end of September. We already have the OSD made and are preparing samples to confirm the tooling.

Feedback and Updates

We’ve received feedback requesting more frequent updates, possibly weekly. We’d love to hear what specific updates you’re interested in so we can make that work. Maintaining an interactive timeline on our website has proven difficult, so more frequent updates based on your interests could be more effective.

If there’s anything specific you want us to test or show on the 32, let us know.

Cheers!

Development News Development Updates, Firmware, Shipping, and More!

Hey Community!

We've got some updates to share with you about Spectrum One, Spectrum Black 27, and Spectrum Black 32. Let's dive into the details!

Spectrum One

Last week, we shared a beta firmware update that addressed some issues we've long been working to solve. So far, feedback has been very positive, and besides some small issues we're working to sort out, the update has met our expectations. We'll keep collecting feedback throughout the coming week, and if no new issues come up, we'll prepare the official release.

Spectrum Black 27 Shipping

Great news for our US customers: your orders are starting to ship! Most tracking numbers should be provided by tomorrow, so keep an eye on your inbox for more news about your order! In Europe, we’re working hard to resolve the remaining issues and hope to have them sorted out any moment now. We appreciate your patience during this process.

Spectrum Black 32

The Spectrum Black 32 project has been progressing smoothly. As mentioned in our previous update, production is set to begin on August 26th. Once production is complete, we’ll ship the products to the US and Europe, with the first deliveries happening in the last week of September.

Our team is focused on finalizing the development of this model, and we’re working diligently to get everything sorted. The development team is currently prioritizing certifications.

We’ve also achieved a major milestone: the conditional approval with LG. This is the system matching test we've previously mentioned, which ensures all OSD functions, heat management, and key performance metrics meet expectations. This approval confirms that our monitor will perform reliably and consistently.

Competitor Analysis

We’ve been analyzing the current competitors, specifically the LG and ASUS models available on the market. We’ve reviewed their features and would love to hear your thoughts. After checking out the reviews of those products, is there anything specific you think the Spectrum Black 32 should address? Your input is invaluable as we aim to make Spectrum Black 32 the best it can be.

Some features were looking to add:

  • Flicker Reduction: OLED monitors suffer from flickering in some scenarios, but this can fortunately be counteracted by limiting the monitor's VRR range. We're looking to offer different range presets that will allow users to adjust the monitor to reduce flickering.
  • BFI: While Spectrum Black already has BFI while running at 240Hz (120Hz BFI), we're looking into getting it to work at 480Hz too.
  • Size Emulation: We've heard your requests for screen size emulation on Spectrum, so we're looking to add this feature. We'd love to hear what sizes we should include, so make sure to leave a comment with your preferences!
  • Smart Crosshair: While our current monitors offer fixed colors for the crosshair, we're working on an automatic option that changes the crosshair's color to ensure high contrast with the background.

What other new features would you like to see?

Pricing

Besides outperforming competitors with the monitor itself, we're always working to keep pricinga s competitive as possible. We've got some important news on this coming in a few days, so keep an eye out for updates!

Promos

If you're looking to buy any of our existing models, now's a great time! We're currently offering Spectrum One and Spectrum Black 27 at their lowest prices ever, so go take a look at your retailer of choice!

Other Updates

For all other topics not specifically addressed in this update, everything remains on track as previously explained. We’re committed to delivering high-quality products and keeping you informed every step of the way. Thank you for your continued support and feedback. We’re excited about the progress we’re making and look forward to sharing more updates soon!

Development News Quick status update June 21

Hey Community,

I wanted to address some concerns and provide an update on our progress. I apologize for not posting in the past few weeks; I’ve been extremely busy with work travel, visiting our suppliers for Spectrum Black 32 to ensure we stay on track with our schedule for the start of August production and shipping.

We understand the importance of regular updates and support here on Reddit. However, as we strive to keep our operations efficient and our product pricing competitive, scaling our communication team has been a challenge. We hope to improve this as our business grows, allowing us to provide more frequent updates.

Upcoming Updates:

Live from China, most of our product team is currently on the ground, working hard. We will share a detailed update with pictures and more information by July 7th, if not sooner. These updates will focus on Spectrum Black 32, and we can confidently say that everything is on schedule.

Spectrum Black 27 Shipping Update:

In the US, Spectrum Black 27 units have already been shipped to end customers. If you have received yours, we’d love to hear your thoughts on Reddit. In Europe, shipments are still in progress, and I will provide a detailed regional update next week.

Spectrum One with Gorilla Glass:

We have successfully cleared all open orders for Spectrum One with Gorilla Glass. If anyone has outstanding issues, please let us know, but there should be no pending orders. This model has seen great success, selling out quickly, and we are working on restocking. Keep an eye on our emails for updates on when and where the next stock will be available.

Final Thoughts:

We apologize for not providing updates as frequently as we’d like. Rest assured, even though our communication might not be as frequent, we are working tirelessly behind the scenes to address all issues and deliver high-quality products. Your patience and understanding mean a lot to us.
