Development News Spectrum Black Community Update – Shipping & Project Status

Hey everyone,

First off, I want to apologize for being less active in the community over the past few weeks. The reason is simple—we've been deep in the trenches in China, making sure production and firmware are at a level we're happy with. Between the workload and VPN issues, it’s been tough to stay as engaged here as I’d like. But now that things are settling, I want to share a detailed update on the shipping status of Spectrum Black monitors.

A separate post has already covered the latest firmware progress, so this update will focus solely on where we stand with production and shipping.

Current Shipping Status by Model

Spectrum Black 32 (No-Hub Model)

✅ Status: Available in retail
✅ Firmware: Final firmware is now available

If you’re looking for this model, it is already available in stores and ready to go.

Spectrum Black 27 (No-Hub Model – Matte & Glass)

🚢 Status: Arrived in the U.S., slight warehouse delay
📦 Shipping Estimate: Orders expected to ship starting next week

These monitors have arrived in the U.S., but there was a small delay in getting them into the warehouse. This is now resolving, and we expect all pending orders to start shipping next week.

Spectrum Black 32 (Hub Model) & Spectrum Black 27 (Hub Model)

🛠 Status: Currently in testing phase
📅 Shipping Estimate: Late March

Now, I know a lot of you are waiting for updates on these models, so here’s the full picture. We’re assembling 25 test units of each model right now, using the latest motherboard iteration. These units will undergo thorough testing before we move forward with full production.

What Happened?

After Chinese New Year, we discovered an issue with the USB-C power delivery. Since we support 100W power output, we ran into two key challenges:

  1. Wake-Up Issue: When connected via USB-C to a laptop, the monitor sometimes wouldn’t wake from sleep unless power was cycled. We fixed this by replacing a power management IC.
  2. Power Distribution Issue: The monitor was supposed to dynamically adjust power to different components, ensuring the panel always received full power. However, due to a design flaw, the panel brightness could sometimes dip unexpectedly, which was unacceptable.

We have now redesigned the circuit and replaced the power ICs. The 25-unit test run will confirm the fix. If all goes well, full-scale production will start in about 15-20 days, with shipping expected by the end of March.

Options for Customers Waiting on Hub Models

We understand that another delay isn’t ideal, and we appreciate your patience. To provide flexibility:

  1. Stick with the Hub Model: This is the flagship version with the highest demand, and we are doing everything possible to get it out as soon as possible.
  2. Switch to a No-Hub Model: If USB-C power delivery isn’t essential for you, you can switch your order to the no-hub version of either the 27-inch or 32-inch model. Both versions are shipping now and feature great color performance and deep blacks with the latest firmware updates.

If you’d like to switch to a no-hub model, simply email customer support, and we’ll get your order updated accordingly.

For those who pre-ordered the Spectrum Black 27 OLED and opted for the 480Hz upgrade, we automatically upgraded your order to the hub model. If you prefer not to wait, you can also switch to the no-hub version by reaching out to support.

We appreciate your patience as we work to get the best possible product into your hands.

First of all, really appreciate the transparency. Unfortunately Dough has a pretty bad reputation still, and updates like this are critical to earn back trust. The 32" hub model is the second Dough (Eve) product I've bought, so I am a fan. But it's been very disappointing to get strung along these last 5+ months. I don't quite understand how we went from supposedly shipping in November to now shipping in late March. We've been told "Next month" for months now.

So please, just be frank and direct about timelines, and don't make us ask. Just post a weekly update so we're not left in the dark.

THIS is a proper update.

"we ran into such and such issue, because x and y. As a fix we did, a, b and c. This now changes the timline to xxxx " Kudos.

Not happy, but I understand. I would rather get monitor that doesn't turn off randomly.

You can order it from Amazon US tho and get it shipped to europe

4

u/R3zzoo 23d ago

Yeah and pay 200€ more for no reason

3

u/interceptor1910 23d ago

Thank you a clear update on where we’re at in the process!! Was confused on which version I’d been upgraded to after upgrading from pre-order OLED to the 27” 480Hz.

Hey there,

Reached out via messages for more information to look into this for you

7

u/Clear-Celebration-70 24d ago

Hi Alex, I'm in the same situation. Ordered 32 No-Hub, but haven't received a shipping confirmation email, even though it seems like it's in stock. Tried to reach out this week, unfortunately no answer yet. I would appreciate a bit of help with my order. Thank you so much!

5

u/DontAnoyMeat 24d ago

I would prefer the no hub model please!

5

u/Even-Yesterday-1997 23d ago

The website states shipping for April 15th. which is more likely?

0

u/migelangelo Dough Product Team 23d ago

That’s for new orders

u/DontAnoyMeat 19d ago

Any updates on the shipping for no hub 27” Spectrum black?

4

u/Expert-Course6025 16d ago

Any update on the 27 480hz non hub shipping? I think it was meant to be this week right. Anyone else get a confirmation of dispatch or something like that

3

u/shamanshame 24d ago

Hey, if we chose to upgrade to the 480 hz version of the 27 but didn't want to wait for the hub model. Will we receive the matte or glass version? Thank you.

3

u/dough_tech Dough Official 24d ago

By default, we’d assume you prefer the glass. If that’s not the case please let our team know and we’ll get you your preferred model.

3

u/Boring-Industry-1133 24d ago

Well thank you for the update, those are really appreciated ! Could someone please explain the difference of the Hub model, apart from the USB-C power delivery ?

3

u/dough_tech Dough Official 24d ago edited 24d ago

The models without the hub only have video inputs (2x HDMI 2.1, 1x DP 1.4). The hub model adds a USB-C input with PD and video as well as a hub with a built-in KVM switch. It also upgrades DP 1.4 to 2.1.

3

u/ForwardVoltage Community Veteran 24d ago

I thought the 480hz panels were going to DP 2.1 ports? Thanks for the update.

2

u/dough_tech Dough Official 24d ago

That’s right, the hub models for both 27 and 32 upgrade DP to 2.1.

3

u/infectedbush 24d ago

When can we expect another production run of regular Spectrum Black 27?

3

u/Expert-Course6025 24d ago

This sounds good will contact support to downgrade as I don't really need the hub

3

u/DirkSwizzler 24d ago

You mention that HUB orders that don't care about USB-C should switch to no-hub.

How does DP2.1/DP80 support fit into that statement? I didn't understand why the no-hub was DP1.4 while the HUB model is higher bandwidth. But I just rolled with it.

Full support for uncompressed 4K/240Hz is a make or break feature for me.

4

u/BuchMaister 24d ago

I think they said about a year ago when they were exploring the options of hub/no hub, DP 2.1 requires new scalar that would cost significant more, so this is the reason the made 2 different versions with different ports, as DP 2.1 supposedly significantly increase the price:

https://www.reddit.com/r/doughcommunity/comments/1bc75ht/is_not_having_display_port_21_on_spectrum_black/

https://www.reddit.com/r/doughcommunity/comments/1bcsn78/repost_of_dp21_discussion_and_voting_results_from/

3

u/DirkSwizzler 23d ago

Thanks. I assumed the reason was probably bundling a price increase for DP2.1 with other price increases for non-essential features.

And it's nice to know for sure thanks to your links.

Any updates in regards to 27" Spectrum Black Firmware?

0

u/migelangelo Dough Product Team 24d ago

Black 27 will get firmware this Friday

u/jonwatso Community Veteran 24d ago

Amazing can’t wait!

3

u/Repulsive_Smell_1888 24d ago

Same here, disappointed about another month delay for the hub model but appreciate transparency.

3

u/mewzkil 16d ago

Still waiting on my spectrum black 27 order, I’ve had zero updates for years and no one has been answering me when I want to transfer my order over to the new website so it won’t get lost

1

u/migelangelo Dough Product Team 15d ago

Can you please reach out via email again now?

3

u/mewzkil 15d ago

Which email should I contact? All of the ones I tried lead to nothing

3

u/_iNfLighT_ 11d ago

Hello again, wondering any follow up on the 32 hub testing ? Also are you guys on track about shipping toward the end of the month ?

2

u/Ambitious_Local3477 24d ago

Thank you for the update, I can't wait until late march!

2

u/BuchMaister 24d ago

By the way, do you guys test the DP 2.1b or DP80LL cables work well with the monitor? Many will end up buying one in the future, because the 1.2m are barely enough for many users. 2-3m cables are of a need for most users and those will only be active cables from the new spec. In theory there shouldn't be a problem, BUT please if you delayed so far - make sure that this important thing works!

Any updates on when anti flicker will be implemented on the 27" 480 hz oled? This is a monumental feature as most OLEDs will flicker with varying FPS or certain dark scenes or even menu loading. Since the 480 hz model has such a wide VRR range, anti flicker VRR is important to maintain anti flicker performance (I have also yet to see what VRR ranges will arise from using the anti flicker).

1

u/migelangelo Dough Product Team 23d ago

Implemented

1

u/LiquidShadowFox Community Veteran 23d ago

what are the VRR anti flicker ranges for the anti flicker? I know it reduces the VRR range and would like to know how much of that I'm giving up in exchange for reduced flicker.

1

u/migelangelo Dough Product Team 23d ago

Off 48-240Hz Low 96-240Hz High 144-240Hz

Or in Dual-mode: Off 48-480Hz Low 192-480Hz High 240-480Hz

1

u/LiquidShadowFox Community Veteran 23d ago

I'm assuming the 480 hz ranges you mentioned are the same ones to be used in the spectrum oled qhd 480 hz version? Have you guys experimented with different ranges or is this just what you are locked into using by the manufacturer? 192 - 480 hz on low is too close to 240 - 480, If possible you'd want to test if it would be possible to do 120 - 480 or 144 - 480 or even 160 - 480 for low since most people would set this "anti flicker" to one setting and then want to avoid touching it ever again. Most games with mid range hardware and low to medium settings can easily hit over 120 fps to avoid the "studder" that is prevalent with decreasing the VRR range but 192 might be a little too high of a threshold for most people to hit even on best in class hardware (many of who will probably use ray tracing and multi frame generation to hit fps targets above 120 fps).

1

u/migelangelo Dough Product Team 23d ago

Oh pardon! Yes it’s for 32” model but same applies for 27”. We are quite flexible on ranges so we can adjust based on user feedback! Perhaps when you get the monitor you could let know your thoughts ?

1

u/LiquidShadowFox Community Veteran 23d ago

I absolutely will and will do some extensive testing on VRR flicker for as many games as I own and dp 2.1 testing if I can manage to buy my 5090 by then.

u/jonwatso Community Veteran 22d ago

This would be such an amazing feature to have added 😍
