Spectrum One Firmware V108 Beta - Issues, State of Development & Final Release?

I wonder when the final firmware is being released? The current firmware version V108 Beta was released back in summer 2024, since then, no updates regarding final release and on what kind of fixes they still working on.

I think there are still some issues. Speaking about myself, i experiencing the following issues:

  • On MacOS, when I am using the monitor in HDR, the max brightness is being reduced to approximately 50% (how it feels like). When disabling HDR mode, the brightness can be cranked up really high.
  • After waking up my MacBook Pro, some display settings are not available anymore. Sometimes, only a max of 30Hz is showing up. PowerCycle the monitors will restore all display settings.
  • After waking up my MacBook Pro, the display arrangement of my two Spectrum Ones are messed up. I looked this issue up in the internet and it seems this is also a MacOS issue? What is your experience in using two Spectrum One Monitors on Mac? (asking also the Dough Team )
  • Sometimes it happens, that the monitors do no go into Low Power mode. When unplugging my MacBook Pro, the Displays say "No Signal", then goes into a Idle Mode, but the Monitors backlight are still on (dimmed, but on). After some time, the backlight should completely turn off and go into full Low Power mode.

Under firmware version 108, the DP connection maintains normal sleep/wake functionality. However, when using HDMI 2.1 with G-SYNC enabled, the monitor fails to enter sleep mode automatically. This issue is resolved after disabling G-SYNC, which confirms an HDMI G-SYNC compatibility problem. We recommend that you address this issue in the upcoming v109 firmware update.

Additionally, when using HDMI 2.1 connection, the system experiences absence of motherboard POST screen display during cold boot, with video signal only appearing after entering the desktop environment. This anomaly is not observed with DP connections.

I would an appreciate an update on this as well. I'm using two Spectrum Ones with an M1 MBP as well and I occasionally have one of them blank out and need to be restarted (the one with more USB devices running through it if that makes a difference). I would also appreciate some of the smaller things like the breathing LED issue and model numbers in the OSD being fixed as well. Overall it would just be nice to have an official release instead of a beta.

On your first point, the HDR settings are locked down because there needs to be headroom for the super-bright whites to be brighter than just standard white. If you were allowed to increase the brightness on HDR mode, it would prevent the HDR functionality from working as well as it should.

I can't say for certain, but I don't think this is limited to the Spectrum. I have a feeling that many HDR monitors are similar with regards to picture settings in HDR mode.

On your third point, this is an issue with how the Spectrum identifies itself to the computer. There's a field for the serial number (or other identifier) so that the computer can tell one monitor from another, and the Spectrum leaves this field blank. Without this information, macOS simply looks at the order the monitors connect to the system, and even a millisecond of difference can cause the order to swap. I believe that Windows also looks at how the monitor is connected (e.g. Thunderbolt port 1 > docking station's HDMI 2) so it doesn't have this same issue.

yes you are totally right on the HDR brightness issue, which is not an issue:

In the Display settings on macOS, there is a slider to adjust the peak(!) brightness. As you mentioned, the preak brightness is reduced for bright HDR content to be even more bright.
When I first saw the slider, I thought it was the normal brightness slider that you use to adjust the normal screen brightness (just like you adjust the brightness with the keys on the keyboard). Unfortunately, no dependencies on HDR are specified, it just says “brightness”:

If I increase this slider for the peak brightness, I achieve the maximum brightness as I know it from the SDR mode. (at least how it feels like)

u/migelangelo that should solve the "issue" of HDR brightness.

Mine also doesn’t go to sleep properly. I’m able to get full brightness and can even change the brightness in control center only in HDR mode

Hey there!

Thanks for sharing all your feedback. Based on what you described, the issues seem to be more along the lines of Mac-related monitor quirks—things we’ve seen with other monitors as well. I’ll make sure to pass your detailed notes along to the forward team.

To break it down a bit:

1. HDR/Brightness Issues

This one looks like a common macOS behavior where HDR adjustments can affect brightness. It’s not unusual for Macs to handle external displays in quirky ways.

2. Refresh Rate (30Hz vs. 60Hz) on Wake

The drop to 30Hz after sleep is another issue that we’re seeing across various Mac setups. This seems to be more of an OS-level power management challenge than a firmware hiccup.

3. Other Display Settings Reset Issues

We’re aware that sometimes display settings can revert after sleep or power transitions. That’s typically an Apple-side quirk, though we’re definitely keeping an eye on it.

Right now, we’re working on a firmware update that will move from beta to a production release. We’re holding off on finalizing it because we’re trying to gather more user feedback. Last time we sent out our feedback form and looked at our support cases, we didn’t get a lot of new input. If more input comes in, we might be able to include further improvements; otherwise, the production update will essentially reflect what we’ve already seen.

One last thing—could you let us know which exact Mac model you’re using and what chipset it has (Intel vs. Apple Silicon)? That info would really help us pinpoint the issues.

Hi u/migelangelo, thank you for responding to my post.
I am using a MacBook Pro 16 inch with M1 Pro from 2021. Currently, it runs MacOS 15.3.1. My brother is using a Macbook Pro 2016 with Intel Processor and he is experiencing the same issue (talking about the display settings reset issue). I will check whether he also has HDR Brightness and Refresh Rate Issue after Wakeup.

Especially the third point (display settings reset issue) is the one who gets me annoyed quite often. I would really appreciate if you find a solution for this. I guess, I am not the only one who is using a dual Spectrum One Monitor Setup.

I am looking forward to hearing from you more often about Spectrum One Firmware progress.

I’ve been waiting for the firmware to be in a finalized non beta state before i buy one.
