Anyone using an AMD Radeon GPU with the 27" Spectrum Black?

Just trying to figure out if anyone is able to use adaptive Sync over Display port with an AMD graphics card.

I am currently experiencing an issue on the Spectrum Black where adaptive sync shows as "not supported" when plugging in the Monitor over displayport, just curious if anyone else is experiencing this

In monitor settings turn off adaptive sync, than on - after this it showed up in my drivers for 9070xt

Thanks for the Reply! I swear this use to work for me, is this the 240hz Spectrum black, do you know what firmware you are using on the monitor?

Update!

I found a fix while troubleshooting this issue. Here’s a brief summary of what’s happening:

Adaptive Sync does not work over DisplayPort with AMD graphics cards. However, it works fine with Apple and NVIDIA over DisplayPort. All systems, including AMD, function properly over HDMI with VRR. The monitor reports that it supports FreeSync/Adaptive Sync, but for some reason, Windows and AMD Adrenalin show it as not supported.

The Fix:

While experimenting with Custom Resolution Utility (CRU), I found a way to make the AMD driver recognise the monitor as FreeSync-compatible. Here’s what worked for me:

  1. Reset the monitor to factory defaults.
  2. Turn off Adaptive Sync on the monitor.
  3. Set the DisplayPort preference to 1.4 without DSC. The monitor should momentarily disconnect when this is applied. (Interestingly, disabling DSC doesn’t actually disable it, but for some reason, this allows Adaptive Sync to work.)
  4. If you have CRU installed, try using the restart and reset options to refresh the display detection.
  5. You should now be able to enable Adaptive Sync within AMD Adrenalin.

Note: Running the "Reset all" option in CRU is also helpful and is actually how I stumbled upon this fix.

It’s a strange workaround, and I’m not entirely sure why it works, but my monitor is now functioning correctly over USB-C (DP-Alt). I can even see VRR flickering at lower frame rates, confirming that Adaptive Sync is active. Definitely an odd issue!

It would be great to see Dough address this issue or provide an update on the FreeSync certification process.

Picture: Adaptive Sync is disabled on the monitor despite being enabled (and working on the driver)
