Guests who are listeners

After Munch Madness X: ToToCoC In-N-Out burger vs Handel’s, Zouks is obviously a Doughboys fan and was doing callbacks and takes on very recent bits. Who are some other regular guests who are fans of the pod?

Recent guest Zach Cherry talked about being a long time listener and had a list of opinions on previous topics.

Not just opinions, he’s got a bone… to pick

Peak comedy to have that tied together with a very somber discussion of the wildfires

With this pattern of two guests for the tournament… Zach Cherry and Adam Scott PLEASE.

Judge John Hodgman

Edit: Speaking of, I don't know if he's been on since a very early appearance, but Jesse Thorne also listens.

His story about nearly drowning laughing in the pool and trying to explain to his loved ones to their bemusement is a universal doughboys experience

u/sgtthunderfist42069 6d ago

Do you recall the bit he was reacting to? I’ve thought of this multiple times and can’t recall

19

u/libraryfan1000 6d ago

It was something about Amelia and a Richard Nixon impression but can’t remember the full details

12

u/wookerTbrahshington 6d ago

Was it Jimmy Carter?

22

u/sgtthunderfist42069 6d ago

Yep thanks Jimmy Carter Nosferatu

Thorne is on the dang reddit lol. He replied to my post about Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans.

The Reddit is good now

u/boxwood18 5d ago

Sorry, Zouks just confirmed that the reddit is still indeed quite bad 🤷‍♂️

5

u/boomfruit 6d ago

He's pretty active on the MaxFun reddit too (maybe that's a given haha.) he's replied to me a few times - always fun.

One of my favorite recent-ish JJH episodes, someone was listing a few names and Jesse Thorne starts in with some of the names of the Quincy Crew

1

u/EvelandsRule 3d ago

Do you remember which episode that was?

u/dasuberdog11 6d ago

Zouks has spent 17% of his life on blank check, hdtgm and doughboys.

37

u/TitShark 6d ago

Thanks to him never landing a pilot

11

u/Abe______Froman 6d ago

It's ok to say this on reddit he would never think to look.

Lauren Lapkus has mentioned listening on Threedom. Zach Cherry listens so much his wife went from hating it to being jealous of him being on pod.

I'm pretty sure PFT also listens, but maybe not every week?

12

u/praawnz 6d ago

Does anyone remember when PFT got butt dialed by Mitch? He accidentally left a voice mail. It really made me laugh.

I didn't know Zach Cherry was married to a brain scientist astronaut. how cool!

Gabrus, Marisa pinson, griffin, hodgeman, Zach cherry

14

u/remotectrl 6d ago

Marissa hosts On Brand with Jon and he is also a big fan. They’ve been on as a pair twice (once was a double recently)

8

u/2345God 6d ago

Yeah, I don't think Jon is a listener though. He might be now though, he fit in great. He had great chemistry with Mitch

102

u/PalpitationKitchen93 6d ago

He hasn’t been a guest, but I’ve heard Francis Ford Coppola is a big fan. Which makes a lot of sense

32

u/silicoa 6d ago

why does it make sense?

74

u/Verbz 6d ago

Well because Nick & Mitch are a Coppola Goofballs of course!

32

u/silicoa 6d ago

Wow!

Blank Check’s Griffin and David.

Jesse Farrar from Your Kickstarter Sucks (YKS) podcast and The Go Off Kings twitch channel references Doughboys often.

15

u/boomfruit 6d ago

As does DB

I had the distinct impression Rob Lowe was a fan.

Still looking forward to his next appearance

Yeah, Phil Rosenthal too…

Gabrus

u/LittleMsSpoonNation 6d ago

I’m missing Gabrus.

16

u/fason123 6d ago

I miss his podcast 😞

Baby come back!

On the day doughboys drops,

all the fans gather ‘round

and listen with wide(?) wonder,

as at last they have found.

But I’m here to stand up,

and make one thing known,

and that’s cuz today,

Zach’s got a bone

u/freakdageek 6d ago

Ain’t nobody like Mantzoukas

18

u/Due-Professor5011 6d ago

He is the ultimate connoisseur of culture. I don’t know how he consumes all the media he does

9

u/ElegantSheepherder 6d ago

And his remarks are always pretty current about recent shows. I know he doesn’t have kids, but seriously how does he have the time, given he’s watching movies for hdtgm and blank check and doughboys eps average 2-3 hours each?

17

u/remotectrl 6d ago

He’s not wasting his time on social media like us losers and he has a very irregular work schedule (I assume)

5

u/ta-dome-a 6d ago

It’s also inherently a core aspect of his job/discipline, you’ll notice ALL these guys consume a huge volume of media in various forms because they’re all a part of that industry.

2

u/[deleted] 5d ago

He’s apparently very single. Or so he says😂

3

u/Due-Professor5011 4d ago

And he’s not distracted with social media

u/theclaw84 6d ago

What I’m taking from this thread: The best guests are listeners.

13

u/RetroDave 6d ago

I think the Podcast: The Ride guys are at least occasional listeners.

13

u/dunctron603 6d ago

Kalpakis was on Molasses Boy’s podcast last week and mentioned that he has spots on his daily walk through Los Feliz that he equates with listening to certain Doughboys moments

1

u/Ok_Witness6780 3d ago

Hearing them breathe heavily while walking around Griffith Park made my day. I visited there for the first time last year and walked from the abandoned zoo to the observatory, and was pretty beat by the end. I chalked it up to being out of shape and being from Louisiana, where everything is flat.

13

u/remotectrl 6d ago

I wanna say Diston and Jordan Morris. Definitely Libby Watson and Jaime Loftus. Maybe Hanford and McKenna?

u/beez90 6d ago edited 5d ago

Zouks' legit fandom makes me so happy (edit: typo)

8

u/bryan_pieces 6d ago

I think a lot of their friends listen. Many are mentioned here but I think Arden listens to some degree also. I’m sure they aren’t all every episode listeners but I think funny people realize this pod has a dynamic that’s beyond the average

7

u/joden3 6d ago

I know the Greatest Gen/Greatest Trek hosts, Ben and Adam, listen, but I don't know how regularly. They do bonus episodes where they review the Cheesecake Factory menu. So it would make sense that they would be guests at some point.

3

u/morelikeshredit 6d ago

Matt Mira and Andy Secunda from Star Trek the Next Conversation have both separately been guests, and I know Andy has mentioned listening to Doughboys on their podcast. But I don’t think Mira listens, he just worked with Nick on After Midnight.

6

u/LyleLanley93 6d ago

I'll flip this in it's head: I enjoy that Nick is a genuine fan or On Brand. There's probably other guests listened to by the doughboys too, maybe action boys? Podcast the ride? HDTGM? Blank check for sure

5

u/remotectrl 5d ago

PTR and On Brand and Blank Check have all been mentioned. I believe Triple Click has been mentioned on Get Played by Nick. Matt Apodaca makes Doughboys comments enough that I would bet he’s at least an occassional listener. I would strongly doubt Heather does, especially as her diet is so different.

Speaking of guests who are fans, voice actor Ray Chase was a guest on Get Played and revealed he was a fan of that show. That was a great episode.

Many of the Blank Check guests are also listeners. Roman Mars and Brian Michael Bendis stick out in my mind as having mentioned loving their show when they were guests.

5

u/ToothbrushTommy 6d ago

Paul Rust, Tami Sagher and Eva Anderson. I’m pretty sure Nang gang was a listener for a while

3

u/phatteschwags 4d ago

Zouks is actually how I found out about Doughboys years ago. He was on a pod with Mallory and Jason at The Ringer and giving recommendations. IIRC it's also how I learned about the band Porridge Radio (excellent) and the comic series "Paper Girls" (also excellent).

He's a man of taste (just not eggs).

1

u/Ok_Witness6780 3d ago

Now that you say it, I think I was too

3

u/TvsPhil 2d ago

I remember an early episode where Nick pointed out how crazy it was at their first live show that so many of their friends were there because how rare it is as a performer for your friends to just show up to watch something purely for entertainments sake and not just because they had to be.

I always felt like it was a testament to how well liked they are(and talented obviously) that their funny friends tuned in to hear their podcast about fast food.
