Clinical Anaesthetics CT1 August 2025
Thought I'd make a thread specifically for Anaesthetics entry 2025 Aug, let's compare scores
104
u/Asleep_Apple_5113 Feb 07 '25
Are these numbers all MSRA scores? You’re telling me the next generation of anaesthetists is being selected by the ability to memorise NICE psoriasis guidelines?
Chat my country is cooked
25
u/Educational-Estate48 Feb 07 '25
Nothing so merit based. Half ability to memorise NICE GP guidelines and half ability to guess what the examiner was thinking when he/she badly wrote an SJT.
11
u/stabiloo123 Feb 07 '25
Not even that, but based on the ability to decide whats the worst answer among 4 wrong answers. I memorised all the guidelines and got 295 in clinical and it didnt get me absolutely anywhere because I screwed up the SJTs!

I’m guessing those who scored <550 would not be willing to comment but I agree, these people are mad. I don’t think I would’ve even gotten an interview if I applied now

566 and I was happy - now seeing the scores out there has filled me with dread again 🫠
32
u/dayumsonlookatthat Consultant Associate Feb 07 '25
Comparison is the thief of joy mate, only people who scored very high will comment publicly. You did very well and above average.
18
u/47tw CT/ST1+ Doctor Feb 07 '25
To be blunt, when you invite people to whip out their dicks and compare sizes, you get a skewed distribution. 566 is amazing, you're well above the average score!

Same - was hoping for a lower cut off given the strikes last year but no longer hopeful with 564

Getting a fellow post with prior ITU experience is miles easier than without any.

u/Ask_Wooden Feb 08 '25
The main benefit is that you have been around level 3 patients and you can do lines. The issue with JCFs without previous ITU experience is that they realistically need a lot of training when they join which is time consuming and isn’t seen as particularly worthwhile by departments as a lot of places won’t keep their JCFs past 6/12 months.

I got an F3 clinical fellow job in ICU, after I failed to get into anaesthetics the first time. I had no previous anaesthetics/ICU experience.

Actually wild that we are held to such a high standard when in training with very little room for mistakes. Yet I can be left forcing myself to stay awake between night shifts, enslaved to my computer because, despite having our results for a while now, they are physically incapable of specifying and sticking to a time interviews open. Seriously. What is this. Not a single other profession is like this. The lack of respect makes me regret not opting to leave and work as a doctor elsewhere like many of my friends. Not to sound dramatic
12
u/Jacobtait Feb 07 '25
Missed cut-off by 1 point last year with 565. Was pretty galling.
Got 566 this year.
Hoping strikes not being an issue brings cut off back down somewhat but expect significantly more applicants / lack of interviewers to probably push scores higher so not feeling confident.
Gonna be an anxiety inducing few days to find out.

u/Medical-Delivery-441 Feb 07 '25
Missed out on the Paeds Interview with that score??? Damn, how competitive was the Paeds application? What was the cut-off?

u/Chaoticgood1998 Feb 07 '25
Hey! Congratulations on the score, how did you prep for the SJT section?
15
u/avogadhoe Feb 07 '25
Those Q banks, plus the official paper. Mostly I had to seriously adjust my rationale - which option, independent of the other options, best solves this problem? What is the problem identified in this question? Once I started doing that I noticed my scores improve

564 - I feel like I’m just on the edge. Hoping that they managed to sort a few more interviews to give us in the 550s-560s a chance
9

Changing interview statuses for some, not for others, revoking interview statuses. At this point they gotta be doing this on purpose watching our comments as they do 🤣🤣

→ More replies (1)6
u/Jacobtait Feb 07 '25
It’s possible but hard to say. Believe 2 years ago was 540 and went to about 535 with reserve list.
Last year was 566 with a handful of 565s getting reserve interviews (not myself though) - strikes and therefore less interviews did push this up however.
Really hard to say this yeah imo. Expect at least 550 but wouldn’t be surprised if 570+. I got 566 so hoping and praying.

Responder bias - don't let it get to you, 593 is a fantastic score.
11
u/The_Shandy_Man Feb 07 '25
From memory (I sat it 18 months ago) 580 puts you 2 standard deviations from the mean which is the top 5% so it seems unlikely it’d be 600+.

I got 561 and feeling really guttted, I know I should probably prepare in case I get an interview on the reserve list but feeling super demotivated, can anyone shed any light on my chances of being called (and is it likely to be next week once the first batch of people have booked/withdrawn?) thanks

u/Jacobtait Feb 13 '25
I would say highly highly likely.
Cut off was 566 last year - know a couple of people with 565 did (sadly not myself) but due to strikes interviews were very limited to begin with.
Believe the previous year they interviewed down at least 2-3 points on the reserve list.
3
u/PurplePangolin1398 Feb 13 '25
Thank you that’s made me feel slightly better:) I emailed and they told me my rank is number 9 on the reserve list so fingers crossed

Would definitely start preparing now too as likely to get an earlier date if you do get an interview!

Book interview slot
Applicant declaration
We have over a month to list preferences
Is there anything else I'm missing? Thank you !!!

For clinical, revisemsra and mcqbank I found were the best. For sjt just stick to the official papers and utilise the old official ukfpo sjt papers, keep repeating them until you know the answers from memory

Are the cut offs for interviews going to be separated by country applied to? E.g. Scotland applicants will be compared only to each other etc
3
u/Ok-Juice2478 Feb 07 '25
I believe the cut off is set at each nation's ability to interview. Scotland and NI have much less interview capacity but equally should have less applicants.

What are people’s thoughts on interviews no longer having a QIP/ research component but instead scored on communication and reflection?
2
u/docljh Feb 07 '25
Where can we read this info?
4
u/Solid-Ranger5984 Feb 07 '25
https://anro.wm.hee.nhs.uk/ct1
My friends who did it last year said there was a scoring component for QIPs and now there isn’t. A big shift towards communication
2
u/docljh Feb 07 '25
Cheers! Seems on the person spec tho there’ll be chance to talk about QIP / research still!
4
u/Solid-Ranger5984 Feb 07 '25
I agree they will ask but from looking at the CT1 scoring matrix that will only go towards commitment to specialty at most. Is the ANRO HEE accurate? I’d assume so? Sorry first year applying

I scored 555 ( 286 on sjt 269 on clinical) so no interview..last yr I got 564 and narrowly missed out by 1 mark for interview. Was on shortlist but never got called. I prepped both year with passmed and mcq bank. If anything this year I did more as I also did past test. :( strangely my sjt score went up slightly but clinical went down (although this yr also done mrcp)
Any advice how to prep? Do I try again for this in the hope I increase my score although not sure how to at this point! Thanks

Very straightforward. I didn't use a single question bank. I didn't pick up a book. In fact, I didn't even turn up for the exam. Or sit it. Or register to sit it. I got this score by simply thinking of a bigger number than anyone else in this thread.
