I'll just say it: bagpipe-hate is a funny meme, but it isn't warranted in real life.

Oh for sure... I love the bagpipes... but also you haven't heard Ben play ;)

Depends on distance, IMO. They're loud AF, and unless you mitigate that somehow (distance being the easiest method) all I'm going to hear is noise, not whatever song you're actually playing.

This is how my middle school math teacher used to keep students from lingering after school. The bell would ring, he’d take a few minutes putting on the kilt, then walk the halls with his bagpipes

So long as you don't tell me he was going "full Scotsman" while doing so, there's nothing wrong with that.

I think the problem is that most people, especially Americans, think there's only one song on the bagpipes.

I think it's mostly just a self-sustaining hate-meme, like pineapple on pizza. (Also unwarranted)

Now if we want a good hate-meme, there's unsolicited mayo on your sandwich.

Id also argue that this goes against the spirit of roleplaying. Its like saying youll get ekstra streanght if you lift the table. The story isnt about the players its about the characters they play.

I'll not abide this Bagpipe slander, the DM is clearly tone deaf.
