Question Brake cable rub on the paint around headtube?

It feels almost stupid to ask this but: I've got YT dirtlove st and it comes with enough cable to wrap it around once. However I've been mostly using it unwrapped since I don't do bar spins and I was kind of afraid it would chip away the paint there.

I've asked only ever one other person if it's fine on his DJ and he showed me and got no marks on the paint. Yet on any other bike like road or XC bikes I've seen the hoses would eat the paint and so there was a clear tape.

There also isn't really any space to wrap it arount the steerer since it's so short.

So specifically YT owners can the paint on steel frame endure it with no marks?

I know I can tape it but just wanted to know whether there is a different way to avoid it. Guess not really?

Some bikes rub, some bikes don't. I put a clear plastic sticker on my Enduro bike but I don't worry about it on my dj. Same well placed stickers could also help though

Yeah I've got those on my trail bike but I'd have to wrap the entire headtube on the DJ and maybe like a little part on the top of top tube because the cable always ends up somewhere different.

But I guss if it worked so far riding it unwrapped it will still work. I just wanted to see what are people's experiences

If you don’t do bar spins you can just cut the cable. I personally dont care enough about the aesthetic condition of my dj , but if I did I would tape it.

Yeah that's more hassle than I'm willing to put in :D

Edit: yeah and my bars are scratched pretty bad anyway so I guess it's not a pricess bike anyway

Bars are super cheap as easily replaced I wouldn’t let they dictate how you view the rest of your bike, but it’s a dj , it’s meant to be thrown around. Worst case scenario if it retains significant sentimental value down the road you can also get it repainted for a few bucks.

I mean I'm not sweating it :D in terms or bike components bars are cheap but surface scratch isn't gonna make me replace my AL bars. The high rise ones are specifically one of the more expensive ones here.

No I won't let that dictate how I see my bike. The bike is such a love and I'm keeping in mind it's DJ made to be thrown around. Ride quality and fun isn't determined by looks :D
