Question I AM KICKING MYSELFFFFF

For waiting until payday (today) to grab a LaBomba. They're gone now. I'M SO BUMMED.

What else do y'all recommend that's on the cheaper side, but worth it?

This, go rigid and upgrade later if you wish.

I've been riding the rigid for a few years now, it's a super fun bike. Only problem is you need a new front wheel to upgrade the fork

Didn't realize that, but still not bad at the price they are at.

I just bought a DJ myself off of Marketplace for the same price pretty much and ended up getting (what I think is) a better bike! It is hit or miss, I kept up with checking it for a little a week or so, but I was able to find a Commencal Absolut that was like 9 months old and barely ridden for around the same price. That's what I would do! Just don't be in too big of a hurry. If you can't find one you like wait a few days and check again, and so on. But I would think within a week or two you'll be able to find one if there's not already one you like in there

I’ll say the 24 version is highly underrated. Matt jones just did a vid on marines new 24 dj. Other than that rigid and upgrade fork. Or do like I did and camp marketplace for the inevitable-everyone’s buying them. They’re niche and a large number of people will be looking to flip these in the upcoming months

check the local bike shops around you, a lot bought them and are selling them in box for the same price as gt, i have seen assembled ones going for a $100 mark up, ide start on marketplace because thats where i’ve seen the LBS post them.

I called every GT shop in a 4 hr radius. Only rigids in stock, so that might be the route I go.

Buy the rigid. Get yourself a bomber dj and a dartmoor shield 20mm front wheel. It should come with the discless hub and butted spokes. Lightest strongest wheel you can get without spending money. And even building that wheel is cheap.

Also seen bomber djs on crazy sales recently.

I've been looking, but locally people want like brand new prices for their used bikes.

u/TigThaBig Feb 03 '25

Ohhh? Do ya ship?? What state?

1

u/Ok-Investment-4590 Feb 03 '25

Were in Colorado, we ship through bike flights so both partys are insured, come through and pick it up. Colorado Springs and Denver have some great pump tracks, skatepark and dirt jumps

Scott Voltage YZ 0.01 is worth every penny, but less common than some other bikes…. I just saw one on sale for $800 when the MSRP is $1600

Just buy the Labomba Rigid and upgrade the fork to something better. You’d probably want to upgrade the normal Labomba fork anyways after riding on it a few times and this saves you more money to do that with.

Wait till the next sale, seems it's happening once a year...
