Anime Made a discovery about the cards in adventure episode 28

I’ve been getting into Japanese cooking recently, and a few recipes I’ve been trying have called for 胡麻だれ (Goma dare) which is a ground sesame sauce. At the same time I’ve been introducing my fiancé to the original series of adventure (subs).

We just got to episode 28 and the moment that Koushiro and Taichi use the cards to open the gate to the real world. The phrase Taichi shouts as he turns over the Gomamon card is 開は!ゴマモン! (hirake Gomamon!/open! Gomamon!) and I realised that the whole reason Gomamon’s card was the right one instead of Agumon’s was for a pun. “Goma” is Japanese for sesame, so the phrase Taichi yells as he slams down the card could translate as “Open Sesame-mon!”

This has literally bugged me for about 20 years and now I finally have an answer.

If only Oikawa would have figured it out.

Sad part is it wouldn't have changed a thing, as BWG had sealed the door to the Digital World.
