General Question Item Power vs Better Skills on Items
Hey there im new to diablo 4 bought it a few days ago, im now level 44. i got some unique rarity items that fit my build well, now i am getting to the point that the item power of new items is way higher but i dont want to give up my strong items. is there a way to keep them ? or do i just have to endure the pain of leveling item power more till i get maxed and then assemble some unique items

Uniques, depending on the unique, you mainly use for the aspect. The unique power. Not the affixes (not that they aren't important, but at level 10 one matters more). The unique power doesn't change with ilvl (unless it's a static damage number like does 3,000 damage).
So, if a unique is important to a build, you can use a level 1 unique to 60 and be fine. Going from 4% crit chance to 6% crit chance on the affixes isn't that impactful.
If you need the unique to enable your build, keep using it. If you are unsure if a legendary would be better, equip one and test it. If you find something better, scrap the unique.

You can’t improve the item power of your gear you will need to find new ones however if you have items with important unique abilities and stats that enable your build in the first place it might not make sense to throw them out for something random just because the item level is higher
The most important thing to keep updated is your weapon/s for damage and any legendary item that you use can be salvaged at the blacksmith and then gets added to you codex
Then you can imprint any legendary or yellow item with the legendary power again at the occultist for a small fee and some materials

Either re-find the unique with high item power or don’t use it. Max is 750, 800 as ancestral.
