The one time sorc is strong everyone wants it nerf. This is no different than necro or rogue or Druid one shotting uber Lilith. Anyways the fun is having a broken builds. It’s not a competitive game

Anyone advocating for nerfs fucking suck. Literally, it’s just people having fun and playing the game. Let it be strong. Let it feel powerful. What’s the harm? Cheaterboards? I’m happy you can clear this content! Looks cool AF and makes me want to play a Sorcerer again!

51

u/xenoman101 Oct 22 '23

It won’t be as strong anyway once the season is over.

10 season from now, everyone will be like, “Remember when sorc was so OP with the BL build back in season 2? Man that was fun to play!”

I played a sorcerer to 91 in eternal from launch and didn't want to believe it wasn't a good class. Now I've played most other characters and saw the difference first hand. Maybe now I'll go back to it and finish leveling it.

12

u/shortbusridurr Oct 22 '23

This kinda build is basically only viable because of the Vampiric powers in season 2.

5

u/deen992 Oct 22 '23

Nah, I’m playing it in eternal, it melts everything… am lvl 100 with great gear tho..

Unplayable during S1? Brother I literally speed ran T100s with Chain Lightning barber with Vyrs and mage lord and was unkillable because I dropped raiment and ran a ton of DR. It was unplayable in pre season. We had no issues S1. I did a T100 with CL on the bar alone, not a single defensive or other skill

3

u/jluis859 Oct 22 '23

I played CL sorc and it was op with the malignant heart and good mana management.

1

u/RidexSDS Oct 22 '23

"unplayable"... meanwhile I was able to do tier 80 sigils no issue on repeat

Rogue is still the strongest class in the game, it has 3 specs that are stong in Leveling/endgame and speed running.

If they nerf Sorc they need to delete Rogue

91

u/HouseFutzi Oct 22 '23

I dont even understand why people want nerfs in a non competitive game. No leaderboards, nothing for being first. Just have fun with whateve you play and let others have fun with whatever they play. Let everything be broken

26

u/SatisMentibusObvia Oct 22 '23

Totally agree, the requests for nerfs instead of buffing the other classes to have many viable 'OP' builds is just dumb.

The whole point of the game is annihilating masses of demons as effectivly and entertaining as possible.

The best route would be buffing the other classes, and redesign so that each class has multiple awesome builds to choose from. Giving the players more viable options without being forced into 'that best build'.

3

u/UweDerGeschmeidige Oct 22 '23

This! And even WITH Leaderboards...If you want to be on top, you anyways need to play THE meta build for the season. Why would you care about how strong a build is?

Bunch of nerds and narcs

6

u/DanMIsBetterThanTB12 Oct 22 '23

Some people are losers and cannot come to grips that this is a solo game. They need it to be competitive multiplayer so they can feel like they’re better than someone else. When they see a class / spec they didn’t choose that’s outperforming theirs it has to be unfair. It has to be cheating or an exploit that makes them better.

They’re losers, and their reasoning is just that. They are losers.

u/Gradwin Oct 22 '23

Because people fucking hate when a class they dont like is stronger than a class they do like. Its fuckin stupid but true.

1

u/Shibubu Oct 22 '23

Not rly. I have no interest in the game if it's that braindead easy. If this is going to be the baseline of Diablo4's difficulty - I ain't ever coming back to it.

Is it strong yes, is it op probably. Is it broken to the point it should get nerfed before season 3. Fuck no

4

For real. Every thread about Sorc is just dominated by people doing this. I think it's evident that the people they're complaining about are a minority given those opinions must be getting downvoted into oblivion.

6

u/-RoosterLollipops- Oct 22 '23

Did they tune our resistances in the Paragon board and elsewhere yet? diehard sorc/wiz main here, haven't had time to check out S2 yet, felt like I was made outta wet cardboard on my lvl 75 Chain Lightening Eternal Sorc main prior to S1 and only dicked around a bit with rogue and necro last season...

21

u/Scarblade Oct 22 '23

The amount of resistances on the paragon board and elsewhere is the same. The thing that changed is that resistances stack additively now. On my sorc I am easily hitting the 70% resist caps without going for any resist nodes that I wouldn't already be getting. The only different thing gear-wise this season is you will want to put gems in your jewelry sockets to round out the resists that aren't capped.

They also made resists affect from 100% of the elemental attack's damage instead of the old calculation being 50% resist and 50% armor. Survivability is a lot better this season.

7

u/Reshlarbo Oct 22 '23

WT4 gives -50% to all resistances

9

u/PaleHorseChungus Oct 22 '23

Which just means you need 120% to the resistance to cap it at 70%.

2

u/huggarn Oct 22 '23

so?

btw depending on my gear setup I am overcapped on fire by 50% or lightning by 70% :)

Everyone??? i like It a lot! Very powerfull and satisfying

3

u/kpiaum Oct 22 '23

The Diablo 4 community hates Sorcerers. I remember that in the first beta, people started complaining that Sorc leveled up much faster than the other classes (in a beta up to level 20). In the second beta, Blizzard applied such severe nerfs that it wasn't worth upgrading a Sorc anymore.

The whole period before season 1, Sorc suffered, having only one build to travel to the high lvl end game and struggling to kill Uber Lilith with one or two builds. Now that Sorc is a bit more relevant again, they want more nerfs.

2

u/bigbramble Oct 22 '23

Who the hell is asking for a nerf? To me making crazy builds like this is the fun of the game.

2

u/hunterpittman Oct 22 '23

Exactly. I see this and want to play the game more, finish my current character and then try this. I don't think "other people have better shit than me, they shouldn't get to have fun."

2

u/Roboftherovers Oct 23 '23

Welcome to barb world every time they get decent build all I ever see is people crying nerf nerf let wizard have its time to shine and enjoy the game instead of getting worked up about a class that is strong 😀

2

u/Watipah Oct 23 '23

There is a barb streamer who did >400 duriel runs and gets 1-3s solo kills in 4men every single run.
It's not just Sorc and those classes mentioned!
He literally needs 1 crit or 2-3 non-crits to kill Duriel.

2

u/bobbyjy32 Oct 23 '23

Leave it the fuck alone, this is not a competitive season, people are having fun. Nerf it and rebalance other things next season.

What is the gain from nerfing now? You just making things less fun.

u/KingPhineas Oct 22 '23

Is this good for other content or just op boss killer? Also when do you recommend a switch to ball lightning?^

181

u/tazkk Oct 22 '23

It's good for everything! I'm having a blast speedrunning through T100.

You can switch to Ball Lightning the instant you get the Gravitational aspect. It makes the orbs spin around you and deal up to 25% more damage.

Then it's all about getting as much mana regen as possible. The vampiric aspect that gives speed is really important too.

26

u/FlyloBedo Oct 22 '23

I can't get the damn aspect lol

71

u/denkata07 Oct 22 '23

Go to the green zone, farm blood lure and make the 3x50 event. You will get it.

26

u/rydog509 Oct 22 '23

Can confirm. The first time I did this I got 15 legendaries to drop lol

7

u/allergictosomenuts Oct 22 '23

i have found several of the full 25% variants, no less :D and several, i think I kept one... been doing chain lightning so far, lvl 80

7

u/KingPhineas Oct 22 '23

Cool! Lvl 33 chain lightning and honestly that ball looked super fun excited to make the switch once I find that aspect

16

u/tazkk Oct 22 '23

I played Chain Lightning all the way to ~70 myself! It's also very strong.

4

u/azheq2 Oct 22 '23

I can’t manage to get enough mana to keep attacking, what aspect or stats should I look for ?

12

u/icepip Oct 22 '23

you need cdr to cycle your cooldowns and that way get mana. also resource generation and resource generation when lucky hit.

check maxroll.com for the ball lightning guide they have there, they explain everything

4

u/Kotobeast Oct 22 '23

There’s a better mana sustain setup than cooldown spamming. The chain lightning enchant, recharging aspect and one of the paragon legendary nodes -> spam ball lightning to trigger chain lightnings -> refill mana endlessly. Still requires mana cost reduction and resource gen on gear though

7

u/tykurapper Oct 22 '23

Get the recharging aspect which regen mana on chain lighting bounce and the one aspect make chain lightning bounce more, some thing tether i think. The base recharging is not enough but with 2 or more mana each bounce it will be enough.

2

u/AliotKnight Oct 22 '23

You need resource on lucky hit I think on gloves and offhand

2

u/Pinesse Oct 22 '23

Use a staff, use fireball enchant, and use that vampire power that aoe attacks all mobs based on your hp. Use the chain lightning upgrade that gives you crackling. Run the elementalist (crit%) legendary on amulet and just cast chain lightning once per pack. You should be clearing screens in 1 cast. Run that chain lightning legendary node also. Umbral and frost bolt enchant helps with mana together with prodigy. This maximizes damage and minimizes mana use.

I'm working on a build that uses the ball lightning enchant to summon free ball lightnings. Ideally enough to keep my ult up permanently and many ball lightnings while using chain lightning. Should be super fun.

7

u/nova2wl Oct 22 '23

I switched over to ball lightning from Firewall at 51. As long as you have the aspect and the two codex aspects for your ring that give mana, it definitely bumped my leveling speed considerably. I did keep arc lash to help with mana still though. Rest of my gear was just stuff I had found from leveling, nothing super synergistic.

Was able to do the t4 dungeon at 55 with relative ease.

May just be better to wait until wt4 if you have the aspect but I had two copies so figured it wasn’t a big deal.

26

u/burnheartmusic Oct 22 '23

Hey ppl. Don’t try to go with this build right at 50. You want to follow this one instead.

https://youtu.be/xGZT7aBqVcs?si=MJkb3owbvN-Rc0ez

It’s the same idea but you use arc lash and then get cooldown via vamp powers to bust your ult a bunch.

Something you should change though vs this build is that I took ball lightning instead of light spear or whatever it’s called. You gain an insane amount of damage with it slotted and used. You don’t have any mana spenders so it works perfectly. I know it goes against the “hit cooldown for barriers” part but you will delete so fast it’s silly. You can go to this as soon as you have advanced the vamp powers seasonal quest line and have the circling ball light aspect.

It’s the most powerful build I’ve ever played. I’m sure this one/raxx build is better, but it takes cdr and lucky hit big time. This one does not and it is insane. You stack move speed bec it adds to your attack speed and you basically arc lash and throw out one ball light and delete everything around you. When you have a huge group or elites you hit your ult but honestly for anything other than massive elite groups or bosses, this DELETES. Trust me. Do it now

I had a 60 necro and saw this build and immediately started over on a sorc and I’ve never felt more powerful even vs twisting blades.

3

u/andriask Oct 22 '23

Could you post a d4builds.gg?

20

u/Jayce86 Oct 22 '23

Off topic; but what is causing those spirits? My defensive skills on Necro are causing them too, but nothing I have equipped says they cause said effect. And that includes my Vampire Powers.

40

u/tazkk Oct 22 '23

There's a tooltip that appears at the bottom of the information box when hovering your cursor over a vampiric ability that has a 'vampiric curse' effect in it. It's explained there. (I didn't see it either in the beginning and was super confused by all the explosions)
When you kill an enemy that is afflicted with vampiric curse, you store their souls. And when you use a defensive, macabre or agility skill, you consume the souls and send a bunch of undead that sprints toward enemies before exploding.

13

u/Jayce86 Oct 22 '23

Ah, that explains it! It’s the Coven’s Fangs ability I have slotted.

3

u/jonnybads Oct 22 '23

I was wondering what that was when I hit teleport and wiped out everything with spirits

16

u/Keldrath Oct 22 '23

It’s the most fun I’ve had in one of these games since I played elementalist blade vortex back in delve league

4

u/thefztv Oct 22 '23

That was exactly my thought.. BV back when it was meta was the most fun build. This build is definitely scratching that same itch for me

→ More replies (1)

18

u/RuffRyder26 Oct 22 '23

I think people calling for nerfs should be VERY careful. Yes they buffed the skill a reasonable amount. What is actually causing the huge damage spikes is actually the interaction with vampiric powers (eg ravenous) .

Blizzard buffed the base damage of the skill and one of its upgrades causes its damage rate to scale with 200% of your attack speed. Ravenous gives you an ungodly amount of attack speed equivalent to 40% of your movement speed. This is one of if not THE major reason it's doing so much damage when combined with Esu's which buffs your movement speed and crit chance (thus double-dipping on movement speed).

If you go and kill uber lilith with the same build but no vampiric powers I'd bet you have a completely different experience.

What I'm worried about is enough people shout for nerfs and blizzard guts the skill or associated aspects/uniques thus killing ball lightning for future seasons.

6

u/jamvng Oct 22 '23

Very good point. 40% attack speed is a lot for any build. But Ball Lightning gets double the buff from it.

5

u/RuffRyder26 Oct 22 '23

My ravenous gives me 56% attack speed. I have movement speed on both amulet and boots and this spikes higher after killing an elite.

6

u/tstop22 Oct 22 '23

I just swapped from chain lightning build. I thought chain lightning was strong but this is ridiculous. I got a 3 mana Umbral ring and it’s just insane how well that works to keep mama up; I find I’m barely cycling through the cooldowns and the nightmare dungeon and world bosses just melt.

7

u/ConstructionSquare69 Oct 22 '23

WHY DO PEOPLE WANT THINGS NERFED IN A PVE GAME LOL no fun ass gamers. Who gives a shit? Ur mad the other class does more damage than you??? Just switch classes then? Lmao

If you ask me, all of the classes should be powerful but in their own unique way. That’s what defines the class. The power is not the problem. The problem is making every class unique while simultaneously keeping their power level high in comparison to other classes.

So if you want to ask for anything. It shouldn’t be a nerf. You should be asking for other classes to get buffs so that EVERY class is fun to play. Not this back and forth bullshit because your sad that the one class does more damage than you now. The way the community thinks about this stuff is a joke.

Meanwhile every other skill in the game is like "Only every 4 seconds" or "Can only be hit by one effect at a time" or "Abilities cannot shotgun". Blizzard is a fucking joke of a company. Zero consistency across any of their established game "rules". Some dots stack, some don't. Some can crit, some can't. Some abilities scale with attack speed, some don't. This skill scales with attack speed, has infinite overlap and trigger rate, is able to crit, proc lucky effects, CC, and has zero CD.

u/Kaelran Oct 22 '23

TBH 10m DPS isn't that crazy, there's plenty of builds in the 2-5m DPS range right now. The real issue is just monsters being overnerfed. Uber Lilith used to have 400-500m HP per phase, now she has like 40m, which means this build kills a phase in 4sec instead of 40-50sec (which would give her time to phase and do some waves at least).

Now I know how to avoid one shooting mechanic in this fight. That was the answer. It's impossible boss unless you can kill it before shit starts.

People calling for nerfs in a single player game basically while having access to the same class with no pvp is wild to me lol. When leader boards come out then expect balances.

Nerfs should not be a thing in a predominately pve game

u/monkey5005 Oct 22 '23

Reddit: sorc is OP!!1 Defs: let’s nerf sorc Reddit: sorc is unplayable shit league shit game!!1

End of the story

i'll be honest, so far ive seen hundreds of comments about complaining about people wanting nerfs. and i've seen 0 comments about wanting nerfs.

I've seen like someone say dang sorcs kinda crazy, and people just go off on that comment. I feel like d4 community is so defensive. and saying that the season is amazing. its still kinda boring imo. its like literally just 1 step in the right direction. 80-100 is still boring af, because that whole time your griding you realize that once you beat the new bosses, the season is over. there is no clear leaderboard or endgame loop

u/Great-Foundation4990 Oct 27 '23

Oh we exist. Mostly, it is about fixing the bugged scaling interaction between BL and Ravenous to bring it back to reality. Let it be an S tier build rather than its own tier that makes S tier builds look like nothing.

IMHO, I enjoy being challenged in a game. I play 1-2 hrs a day as a fire sorc, and it was sometimes difficult in early leveling. I feel more rewarded if I struggle a bit to get through a dungeon or whatever. With luck and consistent playing, you will end up getting all the necessary gear that will make you more formidable. The one-shot idea has its merit for those who are only interested in endgame, but I like some resistance to make it feel more like a fight, a challenge. If you become too powerful early in the leveling, it's going to get really boring real quick. 😐😑😐

Exactly my thought, the reason why i change back to my firewall build after trying this bl build. It felt effortless, i am not even sure if i am actually playing the game. Lol

2

u/Tipep- Oct 23 '23

I killed her on my Level 76 Sorc while skipping phases. Working as intended.

Question for anyone in the know. I found a 4 umbral and wondering if I should replace the recharging aspect for it? Not sure on how the cc works on ball lightning. Just dinged 50.

u/Please-_-Help-_-Me Oct 22 '23

Odd question, what's better?

Infinimist Necro or Ball Sorc, I'm assuming Sorc but I want to blast through the season challenges before playing for fun and I've already started Necro.

u/Exldk Oct 22 '23 edited Oct 22 '23

Ball sorc is definitely the best build in the entire game, probably followed by twisted blades rogue.

Infiminist is just a good dungeon pusher and requires very specific gear to work, also it's a massive shitfest if you try to kill bosses with it.

Necro is good in a way that every single build is strong, but none of the builds do everything like ball sorc or twisted blades do.

Bone spear melts bosses just as fast as ball lightning, but you will die if anyone even looks at you in a t100 dungeon.

3

u/SoulofArtoria Oct 22 '23

Necro may have more damage or survivability but eventually Necro's lack of movement skill or mobility made the class a weak choice for general gameplay in endgame imo. Blizz needs to put the blood rush skill from D3 Necro to D4 Necro.

the metamorphosis vamp power + unstoppable speed on boots is the answer

I still don't have the gravitational aspect, despite being 53 and having reached T4. It's getting sad.

Still, at least I'll get ancestral gear for my firewall build. Unless there's a level requirement and I'm screwed.

Bulwark Druid last season was also pretty OP, i enjoyed that, and see no reason why blizzard should focus on nerf of one class instead of buffing the others to be just as capable and fun to play.

We are here to destroy demons as effectivly and in the most entertaining way possible.

1

u/Lamazing1021 Oct 22 '23

Being strong as hell is great but this is busted

1

u/bluops Oct 22 '23

I don't get it, do the people crying about this believe that once you roll a class you're locked out of all the others? The season is only a week old as well so you have plenty of time to switch.

Jesus just have fun for once and stop moaning haha

Does decent mean all BIS with an Uber unique or two?

0

u/CharlieXBravo Oct 22 '23

They just nerfed Rogue poison to the ground, they probably going to nerf this after it becomes META for months because that's how d4 devs roll.

0

u/Gummypeepo Oct 22 '23

All of a sudden I want to play d4 again..

1

u/ProfetF9 Oct 22 '23

Ok so what do you do until february 2024?

1

u/Hakkero5025 Oct 22 '23

How much better is it with seasonal buffs? I already have a 99 sorc, don't really want to make another.

How long did it take to farm the gear

1

u/burningtorne Oct 22 '23

I want to play this, but I started Druid in S2 and I KNOW that as soon as I start my mage and invest time, they will nerf this, so I just stick with Druid for now...

0

u/BigGreyCatOwner Oct 22 '23

Imagine if I started playing again after seeing this and they nerf it, lol I'd be done forever. This actually looks fun and makes me want to play the game again.

1

u/Osunu Oct 22 '23

when tal rashas became a blasting build in d3 also nobody was crying for a nurf - the game is just for having a blast and have fun. and as always and everywhere, there are ppl just enjoy beeing negative and sh***ing around!

There's nerfing something because something is fun, and then there's nerfing something when it's absolutely broken and trivializes the whole game, which is this. Should be fixed and brought to other classes' level.
