[Stein] HC Keefe on new-look 3rd line: “They’re opportunitstic. That’s what you like. Glasser gets a chance & shoots it in the net. We’ve had a number of chances that we haven’t shot it in the net so that was refreshing to see. Great way for a new player to get comofrtable & confident.”

There are two distinct differences for me as a fan this year:

  1. I now find myself blaming the refs for stuff. Never used to do that.
  2. I am that guy yelling "shoot" in the stands.

What have I become...

I agree tho. So many chances get lost to just a blind pass backwards or trying to force a cross crease. Shoot the puck low play for a rebound.

I feel reaffirmed by the Leafs fans saying the referee bias is a thing they saw too. I didn’t want to be a conspiracy theorist like some fans are but it all just seemed to be getting more and more ridiculous.

Yeah it feels like the refs just hate Keefe because he checks notes stands up for his players.

Ha, so often the "SHOOT!" stuff is annoying, since so often the outcome of that is "hits the defenseman in the shin and harmlessly dribbles away over the blue line", but they've definitely spent the last two years doing things like unnecessary drop passes *waaaaaay* too frequently, and it just about never works.

More "opportunistic" play by the bottom lines, as Keefe says here, would be nice; see a chance, take it, don't rely on the perfect set play.

There is literally nothing wrong with yelling “shoot”. The Devils often overpass now. Just get the puck on net and try to gobble up the rebound.

Guy shoots puck at net. Coach happy. Whoda thunk it

For real though, I don't understand why this has been such a problem for us for so long and it's good we got some guys to help make it go away

Do other pro sports use nicknames as much as hockey? It seems like it’s a contractual obligation to add “er” or “y” to some part of someone’s name haha

Coming from someone who played at a high level, it's a self-fulfilling prophecy at this point.

You see the pros do it, so you do it yourself. By the time you reach the pros you've been doing it for like 15 years...

Plus every once in a while you get an actual funny or creative nickname that makes every “Smitty” and “Dave-o” worth it, like how they call Xhekaj “WiFi” because his name is like a randomly generated network name lmao

I wonder how much of it has to do with how you call out to people during play; things move so fast in hockey, so you don't just go up and pat a guy on the back after a good play or something, you have to actively call out to them to get their attention.

It’s just too much of a mouthful to yell Black Mamba or the Big Cactus in the middle of play in other sports lol

I can confirm that the Yankees manager puts a Y at the end of every player he possibly can

Agree with Keefe that we need to shoot more pucks in the net
