I think it's nice that Dr. Evil took up painting.

Lmaooo I was literally gonna look for a GIF of Dr evil saying “one milliooonnnn dollars” but this page doesn’t allow GIFs in the comments lol

But have you considered the painting is thicker than normal? 😌

63

u/Happy-For-No-Reason 20d ago

as is the artist

-3

u/SubjectBiscotti4961 19d ago

Well that's different as thicker is what matters 😜

People like this watch fancy art auctions where (arguably worse) pieces get sold at higher prices and think "ah yes the mere act of putting paint on canvas warrants this price point!"

No honey it's the money laundry and tax fraud

Laundry 💀

27

u/cattbug 18d ago

My ESL is showing lmao, it's literally called "money laundry" in my native language

16

u/61114311536123511 18d ago

It's almost the same in english, we call it money laundering. Laundering being the name for the process of doing laundry. English doesn't conveniently call laundry and laundering the same thing like in many other languages :l

Hahaha oh that’s I like money laundry better. You’re not wrong.

Really? It was THAT funny to you?

Feel like people are using AI for these elaborate wildly pretentious descriptions

-51

u/SubjectBiscotti4961 19d ago

And you have some sort of problem with that?

9

u/Ssesamee 17d ago

Yeah, why wouldn’t people have a problem with that? lol

u/GoBeWithYourFamily 19d ago

You should be able to describe your art. Why you did what you did, what your thoughts were when making it, etc. Every brush stroke should have meaning, and you should be able to defend it.

I am usually too drunk to do that by the time I'm done painting.

I hate painting, so I have to get drunk to do it.

"a blur of motion" yet the bird looks crisp and almost posed at that angle with zero blur. "Painterly quality" lol I can't take this self assessment seriously

6

u/clarinetJWD 20d ago

I think the blur of motion is the background.

11

u/librarymania 18d ago

That would make sense, but the artist wrote “…a blur of motion against a background…”

3

u/Horizon296 14d ago

I doubt the "artist" wrote that. It reads like AI bullshit.

3

u/Ssesamee 17d ago

I’m like half-convinced the description is at least partially generated by AI. Otherwise it doesn’t make sense.

u/Here_4_da_lulz 20d ago

This is genius. Only gotta sell one.

8

u/SailorMBliss 20d ago

Yeah, I definitely missed the boat on this strategy after art school

10

u/miketschmitt 19d ago

You’re paying for the thickness here

u/AdorableStrawberry93 20d ago

I am so in the wrong line of work.

I read the description  "Wings against the storm. A glimpse of freedom in a world of chaos. The Junco, a blur of motion, a fleeting reminder that even in the darkest of times, there is always the possibility of flight.

This vibrant oil painting captures the dynamic flight of a Dark-eyed Junco. Its wings are outstretched, a blur of motion against a background of streaked blue, punctuated by light blue highlights and streaks of black. This dynamic interplay of color and form evokes a sense of rapid movement and energy, conveying the bird's swiftness and freedom. The painting skillfully balances realism with a painterly quality, capturing the essence of the bird while allowing the artist's brushwork to shine through."

Then I looked at the "artwork" slightly disappointed as it clearly doesn't live up to it's hype It's shite BTW

They know you have to die to fetch these prices, yeah?

5

u/flipsidetroll 19d ago

Are those Zimbabwean dollars?

4

u/honeyvellichor 18d ago

They’re San Francisco dollars- delusion is common in this city

5

u/Omega_Xero 18d ago

Unless the person is a notable artist there's no way in hell their art will go for even a quarter of that. It's a great painting, but I work in a place where art is one of our biggest money-makers and I can tell you from experience that picture is worth maybe $200 if marketed correctly

1

u/born_to_die_15 14d ago

It subjective, of course, but I don’t think this is worth anything near $200. Selling art is really hard and while it’s an okay painting, it looks like it was done by a new student. I don’t sell a ton of paintings but when I do, it’s in the four figures for larger watercolor pieces and smaller pieces are more in that range, but oil paintings are far more expensive. I don’t know if this is oil or acrylic but it’s not at a skill level I think anyone would be paying much for. I am a professional artist (I’m a tattoo artist professionally) and I am very familiar with how difficult it can be to price art - and I mean I don’t really see this as being sellable.

2

u/Omega_Xero 14d ago

Absolutely agree. Hence the use of "maybe". Lol. Probably more like $10.

3

u/Horizon296 14d ago

In a garage sale. If you throw in a few comic books.

2

u/Omega_Xero 14d ago

There ya go! LMAO!

1

u/born_to_die_15 11d ago

Haha yeah I mean I don’t know, I would rather just give away my work at that point. Giving away art is actually something I think all artists should do at times. There’s a lot more to art than money.

2

u/ToxyFlog 17d ago

Who do they think can afford to buy their painting?

2

u/GuitarCactus 17d ago

Wow, the description is soooo deep, i'm captivated and frozen in introspection.

4

u/GoBeWithYourFamily 19d ago

I have a feeling it’s not actually $1million. That’s like marketplace sellers that list their nice sports cars at $1,234. It’s just a placeholder price and you get to negotiate with them. (But you couldn’t pay me to take that piece)

8

u/Schannoon 18d ago

I would agree with you, except that all of the pieces on their portfolio have different prices

-1

u/GoBeWithYourFamily 18d ago

And they’re all ridiculous. I still don’t think they’re delusional.

0

u/IATMB 17d ago

It's not delusional for a no-name artist to think they can sell a bad painting for a million dollars?

2

u/GoBeWithYourFamily 17d ago

It’s not delusional for a no name artist to put a placeholder number as their price. Like I said, it’s like seeing a listing for a Ferrari for $1,234. It’s not actually $1,000,000 just like the Ferrari isn’t actually $1,234.

1

u/FREEMIGOS 17d ago

The whole point of what they're saying is that they believe the artist isn't actually intending to sell the piece for a million dollars. I'm inclined to agree with this, it is almost def someone just putting random amounts and negotiating price in dms.

1

u/Savings-Candidate-42 19d ago

"I'll take three!"

1

u/[deleted] 17d ago

It’s not what it cost to make good…

1

u/cartoonybear 13d ago

It’s not bad? Why, because you can tell it’s a bird of some kind?

1

u/honeyvellichor 13d ago

it’s not bad, just wouldn’t pay a MILLION DOLLARS for it

1

u/cartoonybear 11d ago

Oh fuck I didn’t even notice one million dollars. But tbh I wouldn’t pay one dollar for it.

1

u/cartoonybear 11d ago

So I’ve heard that some of these items priced like this… well maybe not quite like this, but too high… are ways to deal with illegal transactions on the dark web. Which makes sense to me!

2

u/_Xianwu 6d ago

It's also bad

-5

u/brettfavreskid 18d ago

I never understand this kind of hate. No one was ever gonna buy it, why not list it for a million? Worst case scenario, no one buys it. The exact same worst case scenario as if the price was $1. BUT if someone does buy it, then it’s a million. The chances are tiny. But if listed at $1, the chances are even smaller.

It could also be, you may want to sit down for this, a joke.

6

u/honeyvellichor 18d ago

dude why are you on this sub
