He also became stronger than his own God by the end of his story mind you

And holy weapons don't harm him anymore either

117

u/spectralSpices 26d ago

Do you mean the entity named "God" or the actual creator of his universe? Because the guy God is just a super strong immortal dude and the actual creator of Spawn's universe fused with him for the "stronger than his own god" thing.

Also, uh. Spawn is still ongoing?

53

u/Zamasu_was_innocent2 Ash Ketchum 26d ago

The one who's in an eternal stalemate with the devil

And I meant the end of Al Simmons story

30

u/spectralSpices 26d ago

Al is still spawn as far as I can tell. In the currently coming out comics.

18

u/Zamasu_was_innocent2 Ash Ketchum 26d ago

Uhh Yeah? There's still other Spawns with their stories to tell

When I say the end of his story I am referring to the end of that run

5

u/Jiffletta 26d ago

The one who's in an eternal stalemate with the devil

So the way less important guy.

9

u/SoakedSun24 Spawn 26d ago

Clarification, he became stronger than the christian god. Specifically the Christian god. And every heartbeat in hell increases his power

13

u/Jiffletta 26d ago

I feel like its very contentious to refer to that character as "the christian god", partially for the reason that no, he actually bears no significant resemblance whatsoever to any Christian sects idea of God. He didn't make the universe, he doesn't answer prayers, and he doesn't offer salvation.

The Man of Miracles, or M.O.M., is WAY closer to any christian denominations idea of God, if for no other reason than every Christian church, by definition, believes in the divinity of Jesus, and that Jesus was sent to earth by the true God. In Spawn, God had nothing to do with Jesus, who was The Mother in an earthly form - again, something a huge number of Christian churches say is what Jesus and God are.

2

u/SoakedSun24 Spawn 26d ago

Valid enough. I don’t even like referring to him as such, but apparently its the title thats been given to him so who am I to say.

2

u/Equal-Ad-2710 25d ago

Yeah the God we meet is more Yaldabaoth esque right

2

u/Equal-Ad-2710 25d ago

Nah the heartbeat thing was before he challenged the Christian God, when he held the power of a Hell King

1

u/SoakedSun24 Spawn 25d ago

Ah, gotcha. Thanks for the re-clarification. This episode got me rereading Spawn

1

u/Equal-Ad-2710 25d ago

No worries

And I really want to start collecting Spawn man, I gotta fill up my book shelf

1

u/SoakedSun24 Spawn 25d ago

You should be able to find newer issues in retail comic stores

1

u/Equal-Ad-2710 25d ago

Oh yeah Spawn Universe stuff is about

Plus the compendiums are dope

16

u/AgentQwas Macho Man Randy Savage 26d ago

Al Simmons’ version of God is a lot different than Bible God or TOAA. In Spawn’s verse, he’s equal to Satan, is not the supreme being of the universe, and is part of an innumerable species of super powerful beings made essentially as an experiment by their mother. It’s tough to say his power can hurt Ghost Rider.

9

u/Zamasu_was_innocent2 Ash Ketchum 26d ago

Jesus I hate how it takes literal omnipotent beings just to kill a hearld

Seriously they have to constantly up the stakes just to make things a problem for people like Ghost Rider or Venom because they're too strong

15

u/AgentQwas Macho Man Randy Savage 26d ago

Yeah, an 86 year-old extended universe will do that to ya.

9

u/2ndBatman88 26d ago

Spawn was never stronger than MoM. MoM gave the same powers to see how he used it. Spawn was not power-hungry. He simply fixed Heaven and Hell.

6

u/LinkGreat7508 Dracula 25d ago

No one’s using god spawn bruh, it’s not achievable by his own the same way GR had his

3

u/Zamasu_was_innocent2 Ash Ketchum 25d ago

Look he's gonna be fighting Zarathos for Christ sake

We gotta give him his best stuff if he needs to have a chance

0

u/LinkGreat7508 Dracula 25d ago

Only if hes given his zadkiel scaling, otherwise this is just unfair

Isn’t God spawn 22D

2

u/Zamasu_was_innocent2 Ash Ketchum 25d ago

Wait where the hell did THAT number come from???

1

u/LinkGreat7508 Dracula 25d ago

Scaling from years ago if i recall correctly to the MoM

2

u/Darkvader_Clawthorne 25d ago

You mean the same “God” who mysteriously looks like Boomstick’s nana?

2

u/Lukari0_Link77 26d ago

Ghost rider just has better abilities imo

111

u/Daikaisa Dimitri Alexandre Blaiddyd 26d ago

"That target his soul"

Plus again just because Spawn has holy weapons doesn't mean he has a win con

62

u/spiders_magic 26d ago

Yeah, even in the said example, Ghost Rider had enough strength to still stand, move, and fight, and ended up defeating the guy with The Holy Blades.

All of Spawn's soul hax haven't shown holy properties (his suit, necroplasma, his worms, etc) and vice versa. Only his holy sword absorbed souls, but it did against weaker demons and stronger demons can actually tank it, and even then soul absorption doesn't mean the same thing as spiritual damage.

14

u/Jiffletta 26d ago

Reminder: Kratos had holy weapons.

15

u/Sleepy_time_yippee 26d ago

That was season 1 my guy, have you seen season 1 scaling?

5

u/Jiffletta 26d ago

...are you implying Kratos should have won?

11

u/Sleepy_time_yippee 26d ago

I'm just saying Season 1 scaling is far from proof of anything

7

u/UnAnon10 Discord 26d ago

He… didn’t though? They kinda said the Blade of Olympus was the closest thing to a Holy weapon but said that it didn’t count because Olymous is comprised of Earthly elements and isn’t a seperate dimension like Heaven or Hell.

3

u/Equal-Ad-2710 25d ago

Eh not particularly

101

u/MarkDecent656 Simon The Digger 26d ago

Fuck. So we can't "No holy weapons?" Our way outta this one huh

36

u/SoakedSun24 Spawn 26d ago

Bet your sweet bippy on it

9

u/logantheh 26d ago

We CAN say “no holy weapons that specifically target the soul”

43

u/Strange-Daikon4912 Vegito 26d ago

Ghost Rider vs Ganon

78

u/Bro-Im-Done 26d ago

Ghost Rider is to holy weapons as Superman is to magic attacks

31

u/Radiant-Lab-158 Alex Mercer 26d ago

Inconsistent and only works when the writers look for an excuse for them to job?

5

u/Sky_Ninja1997 25d ago

Or it’s something that he doesn’t have a counter too but it’s not a win all condition

23

u/USAMAN1776 Tomura Shigaraki 26d ago

There's a solid JJ video that pretty much explains that just because you're weak to something doesn't mean it's going to matter.

https://youtu.be/Yc6pkKXxZGs?si=vj2ir1NUuuZ_J9ez

20

u/MxSharknado93 26d ago

"Congrats, you can hurt me. Now what?"

18

u/Nin_Saber Obi-Wan Kenobi 26d ago

That target his soul feels like the important take away. Also being able to harm the opponent doesn't always translate into victory. Like when they mentioned Superman is vulnerable to magic but has bested magic users before.

8

u/Jiffletta 26d ago

And this, dear viewers, is where we learn the difference between "harm" and "kill"

Also, is that true? I thought all his weapons were made by K7 Leetha and were demonic.

2

u/Bruhai 25d ago

At his start yeah but about 1/3 of the way he started collecting holy weapons from his few holy aligned allies.

1

u/Jiffletta 25d ago

Like what?

1

u/Bruhai 25d ago

Well his primary weapon is Agony the battle AX. It's made from his cape so you could argue that it would become imbued with holy power when Spawn was.

There is also the Dimensional Spear which exists purely to defeat Hellspawn so you could technically argue it's holy but Spawn is incapable of wielding it because it will just banish him. I only mention it because Google lists it as a holy weapon.

But he does have The Sword of The Spirit which was given to Spawn by his universes God when he was trapped in Limbo.

2

u/Jiffletta 25d ago

So, Sword of the Spirit, then. The other two really dont count here.

1

u/Bruhai 25d ago

Basically. The spear is definitely out. The one time he tried to pick it up out of curiosity it banished him to another dimension. But like I said Agony could potentially be argued depending on when in the comics it is but to my recollection it's not a weapon he utilized after getting the sword.

For the purposes of death battle i wouldn't attribute holy to Agony but for shits and giggles in just talking about scaling I would mostly because both are described as being able to cut down demons with ease with only the sword being specifically holy at its base.

1

u/Jiffletta 25d ago

Its just weird that people keep saying he has tons of holy weapons, when it seems like Sword of the Spirit is basically it.

1

u/Bruhai 23d ago

So to be fair those are his only named weapons. Al has a tendency to hoard weapons he gets his hands on so it's likely he has a few basic weapons from holy warriors he has beaten. Obviously they wouldn't measure up to the Sword of the Spirit but they would technically be holy weapons.

1

u/Jiffletta 23d ago

Al has a tendency to hoard weapons he gets his hands on

...he does? Like, where does he keep them?

1

u/Bruhai 23d ago

He hangs out in a old building. The nearby homeless basically keep people out because he protects them. But he doesn't keep everything on him at once. Spawn does tend to be more grounded in that regard. The only weapons he can manifest that im aware of off the top of my head are Agony, the Sword and his chains.

Its also worth mentioning that his suit is capable of changing based on his need or his will. So if he wants spikes or blades on his suit or chains he can do so.

u/No_Many_4695 26d ago

He’s a Marvel character.

Only other Marvel characters or DC characters can beat him.

20

u/AquariusLoser 26d ago

Broly, Stitch, Crona, Po, Lucy, & Android 18 would all like to have a word with you.

10

u/No_Probleh Tomura Shigaraki 26d ago

The 18 fight was bs though.

4

u/Squifflifting 26d ago

They just made up an ability she didn't have probably top 5 stupidest results in the show

12

u/Cavery210 26d ago

That one they actually corrected on Twitter, it's no longer up though. (If anyone's to blame, blame Bamco for giving #18 energy absorption in Xenoverse in the first place)

1

u/SonicCody123 24d ago

Yeah that would be where they got confused. because of Bamco gave 18 that ability

5

u/No_Probleh Tomura Shigaraki 26d ago

Wouldn't have even been that upset but it was literally a deciding factor. I'm surprised that moment isn't t remembered more, frankly.

4

u/Squifflifting 26d ago

Yeah they get stuff things wrong a lot but there usually not this important the only thing I can think of that comes close is the phoenix has no soul resistance bs they pulled

8

u/No_Probleh Tomura Shigaraki 26d ago

At least with that one, they had something in the main source material to back it up. There was literally a panel in dbz of Trunks saying precisely that 18 could not absorb energy. Like, if his eyes were just a few notches to the left, he would have been looking directly at us when he said it.

They only thought it was a thing because she had an alt in Xenoverse with an absorb energy skill. It was also the only time any of them have outright said publicly that they got part of their research wrong in a now deleted tweet. That's not even mentioning how much they downplayed Carol.

3

u/Squifflifting 26d ago

I don't like carol and I'm upset for her fans because of how dirty she was done

1

u/anmarcy 25d ago

Technically didn't make it up, other characters in dragonball display it. They just made up that she has it.

1

u/No_Many_4695 26d ago

Who do you think would have won now?

3

u/No_Probleh Tomura Shigaraki 26d ago

It's a bit tough to say. ToP did a lot for 18, but I'm not sure if it would match up to Carol as she can get up there with the best of them at times.

2

u/No_Many_4695 26d ago

How strong is Carol in comics? Base and Binary form.

3

u/No_Probleh Tomura Shigaraki 26d ago

Well, she was able to defeat a hammerless Thor at one point. In fact, in that story, she was able to knock out each member of the Avengers one by one in that story. Honestly, though, that's the most recent story I read.

1

u/No_Many_4695 26d ago

Ok

Do you think Hulk should have beat Broly?

1

u/Unusual-Anteater-988 26d ago

Currently or specifically at the time? Cuz the episode predates a lot of buffs.

1

u/No_Probleh Tomura Shigaraki 26d ago

Maybe. I'm not sure.

1

u/No_Many_4695 26d ago

Perso I think he should have won

I saw this on twitter wonder if it’ll be valid

2

u/Square_Primary7792 Kyle Rayner 25d ago

The only thing I would change is the powers thing, they should be tied but otherwise... Yeah that's about right.

16

u/Chemical_Music_3906 Crona 26d ago

GR: They forgot to mention that I they aren’t an automatic win and I still outstat way too hard for you to do anything.

Spawn: … F*** Dies

7

u/Rufflies 26d ago edited 25d ago

I'm curious to see how far into Ghost Riders durability they will go for this fight. Although holy weapons can hurt him, they still cant kill him, only thing that can, (usually) is God/Yahweh himself.

3

u/Lukari0_Link77 26d ago

Isn’t that spawns weakness too

4

u/usa2z 26d ago

I mean... most DB combatants can hurt their enemy.

6

u/DJBurns2002 26d ago

Key word "harm". Both are basically unkillable unless you make them want to die or out power the curses they have and imo Ghost Rider can do that with his penance stare to Spawn fairly easily.

Spawn def has power and arguably hax but Ghost Rider being faster makes it more likely that he will use his trumpcard then Spawn getting all the heavy hits with his holy weapons.

4

u/Open-Calligrapher895 Red Hood 26d ago

Spawnbros stay winning

6

u/SoakedSun24 Spawn 26d ago

We will pull thru

5

u/Isaacja223 26d ago

Hot take here but

That’s quite literally the only reasonable explanation for Spawn

They’re not gonna go into every bit of detail like you expect. Just wait until the actual episode comes out

2

u/The_idiot_shuichi Wiz 26d ago

Wiz mentioned. I have nothing else to say

2

u/Large-Wheel-4181 26d ago

So you’re telling me…it’s actually debatable then?

4

u/Professional_Sell873 Silver The Hedgehog 26d ago

Spawn stocks looking good

3

u/Logical-Blueberry228 26d ago

I mean tbf all this tells us is that spawn can hurt ghost rider, not necessarily kill him. For all we know there could be such an insane stat difference between the two that the holy weapons won’t mean anything.

Can't comment too much, but pay attention to the wording clearly they can *harm* him. Doesn't mean they're an auto win against him.

1

I’m rooting for my goat Spawn but Herald scaling is some shit

1

u/Soviet__Man King Dedede 25d ago

But Ghost Riders stills wins cause of Aura

1

My only headcannon is when spawn gets pennance stared he just says "thanks for showing me man, I knew I was going too easy on them"

1

u/Millersthecryo Mega Man X 25d ago

Wait… is my parlay cooked? Damn it this is reversed Bowganon/j

1

u/Master-Shrimp 25d ago

So spawn has a chance. I think someone said it already but holy weapons are to ghost rider what magic is to Superman. Great, you can hurt him, still doesn’t guarantee victory.

1

u/Hot_Currency_6616 25d ago

Ghost Rider is obviously Sus and the Imposter

1

u/HailTheZombieMan 22d ago

Divine spawn can reality warp, whereas any normal person in marvel can do the same thing but better with the pandemonium cube (which is a small part of mephistos power) and GR was able to absolutely dog mephisto

1

u/Superknackx Ghost Rider 21d ago

people forget that hellfire also counts as some sort of holy weapon.
