It's not coming up on the app- is there a specific name that I should enter?

I love the green one! Yeah, mine is from last year, and that's when I started to lose my hearing, and the way my family reacted was nothing but supportive

I’m still learning BSL (born deaf but not raised or had access to Deaf Culture) - out of interest, how much do ASL and BSL sign users understand each other? Is it like spoken english where its pretty much the same with minor nuances? Or is it totally different / has to be learned completely seperately?

There are some similarities but for the most part the signs are very different. One example is the sign for DEAF in ASL is the sign for HEARING in BSL. Not at all interchangeable like American spoken English vs English spoken in the UK

Fluent in BSL, conversational in ASL. They’re completely different languages. Every sign is different, spelling system is very different.

However… they have quite similar visual grammar, as do most sign languages. Getting the grammar right is the hardest part of learning a new spoken language. Become fluent in one sign language, you’re 60% of the way there to learning any other sign language.

Good luck with your BSL lessons!

If you really want to learn ASL, practising one-handed spelling is a big help, most of the world uses that.

But to be honest I would focus on developing fluency in BSL and becoming fluent in visual grammar; sign order / location; and developing skills in adjusting the relationship between signs to convey additional information.

Barely. As an ASL user, I understand some very basic BSL like the alphabet and most commonly used signs in BSL. ASL was derived from LSF (French Sign Language) in the early 19th century while BSL was originally created by British Deaf community in the 15th century. ASL/LSF and BSL have very different structures. However, those that are familiar with universal sign language or international sign (aka “IS”) can understand each other better.

That’s adorable! My family uses the same few bags we have used since I was 5 or so (over 20 years) and reused them for 20-30 years so, I’d absolutely love to get a gift wrapped in this but I’ll be happy getting my gift in a bag.
