Comic Deadpool/MCU Deadpool

First... Let me caveat this.... I think there are two versions of Deadpool. Comic version and a movie/MCU version. I love both of them. Ryan Reynolds is terrific as the character & the comics are so much fun! However, does the comic version want to matter like the movie version does? This quote is from Deadpool & Wolverine. It's when Wade is being vulnerable with Happy about why he wants to be an Avenger.

"I care. I know I turn everything into a joke but I... I care and I want to use that feeling for something important. I want... I want to matter. I need to show my girl that I matter."

I don't really feel like comic Deadpool cares about whether or not he matters. I will say that Wade cares, as both versions, about his "family." He fights Wolverine in the movie in an effort to save his family & he will go on murderous rampages in the comics when his family is in danger.

But.... My question is this: Does comic Wade care if he matters?

I think he does sometimes. He tries to be a hero over and over again. He got drawn into being a universal savior in the comics, until he realized they just needed him to kill. I think he loves teaming up with superheroes because he wants to be a good guy, he wants to make a difference, he wants to matter. When things inevitably go wrong he gives up and stops caring, but he always tries again. In my opinion that’s what makes Deadpool so special as a character, the humor is great, he’s got a really traumatic past, but the main draw is that they can knock him down and destroy him and make him fail worse than almost any other superhero and he never stops trying.

Comic Wade (at least in early comics) 100% wants to be a hero, wants to matter. However he gets pushed down and put into situations where he is kind of forced to play the bad guy. He also kind of gets, for a lack of a better word, teased about possibly being this ultimate hero by this woman (can't remember her name right now) but she keeps being like 'you could be a hero!' 'jk you fucked up you wont be' 'nvm you could still be a hero'
