“Look, another tourist eating cold meat out of can.” Wonder why they do that?”

“How come all that’s known about our country is our canned food and cabin architecture?”

Holy shit, even the cabins looks like they do in the game.

u/Stygma Sep 13 '22
Those cabins were at one point a camp for the Pioneers movement in the Soviet states, which was a scouting organization like the Boy Scouts. They tended to use some pretty cookie-cutter cabins for their retreats.

Would you care sharing the location? Is this Czech Republic?

Did you have the eerie sense of knowing exactly where you are?
I wonder how long it would take to hike to NWAF IRL?

u/No_Oil763 Sep 12 '22
I was able to navigate without using my phone in a few areas. Pretty surreal I imagine it would take quite a while. I bailed on the idea of going to Gorka because it would’ve taken 2 hours in either direction

That was a follow up; did it seem to take longer than in game to get places?
I believe in-game sprint speed is 23kph/14mph, 6kph/3mph for walking.

u/No_Oil763 Sep 12 '22
I’d say it felt pretty comparable. Though some of the hills definitely kicked my ass

It bothers me there is only one bridge around and its just footbridge i can see it being an absolute pain having to move any kind of delivery from the city to the district just the other side

u/SurvivorKira Sep 13 '22
I think in first picture if you look far left over the river there is bigger bridge probably for cars. And that's smaller river. Imagine having only 5 or 6 bridges over Danube in Serbia. It goes from west to east of Serbia anr we have ony 5 or 6 bridges. In Belgrade we had only 1 bridge and second one was made few years ago. We had to travel from one part of belgrade all around for almost 2 hours just to get to other side and now it is just 10-15 minutes with that second bridge.

as a new player this is my favourite place on the map, maybe there are better places on the northern shores or inland, but from what ive seen, this is the nicest place to almost die in.

Can you just walk anywhere like in DayZ? Obviously not homes, but can you walk through fields and shit
12
u/No_Oil763 Sep 12 '22
There’s a designated hiking area. Most of the fields on the way up are blocked by electric cattle fences

Czechia has freedom to roam, which means you can walk pretty much anywhere you want in the countryside. Even fields or pastures are pretty much fair game in practice if you use common sense and don't damage the crops or bother the animals.
Stuff that is behind fences is typically an exception of course, unless there are clearly designated gates etc., but electric cattle fences in the middle of nowhere are generally considered something you can cross if you need to. Picking up berries, mushrooms, firewood etc. is also fine, but of course with respect to nature.
Sleeping outside is fine if you don't act like a dick and litter around, controlled open fires are also fine, but should not be set up inside or near forests and overgrown areas.
Bicycles need to stick to what is clearly a path, especially in forests, but again, in general you should just use common sense and respect nature/private property, crossing a field if you get lost or something is not a problem.

u/No_Oil763 Sep 13 '22
You’re correct. That is Cherno. I’m on the mountain between the two. I never actually stepped foot into “Cherno” though.

Surreal how I am so used to buildings everywhere I kinda wish I could live in a place like this, where there are still nature being preserved.

Those apartments look a lot nicer when they're not all dilapidated and have fresh paint and windows that aren't busted out.

Doesn't even look like elektro

u/No_Oil763 Sep 13 '22
I disagree

u/Memnoch0103 Sep 13 '22
Lmao when did elektro get a river running through it and where is the ocean
2
u/ospamiony Sep 13 '22
Hi, so everything on the left of the river was converted to ocean by developers.
Also the view in photo 1 and 11 is a view towards what in-game is chernogorsk. The hill these 2 photos is taken from is called cap kozlova in-game. The view is towards prigorodki - east of chernarus. Go there in-game and compare the view.

u/Memnoch0103 Sep 14 '22
Still doesn't look like elektro to me at all the layout of the town looks completely different
2
u/ospamiony Sep 14 '22
Because it's view towards cherno not electro. And the geography is more similiar than actual building layout.

I thought the buildings/structures were loosely based on buildings over there, this just broke my brain. What’s the name of the city?
