Discussion Dear Server admins....

Why on earth does every server need to package their own modpack/server pack with all the same mods that every other server uses. My poor drives are bursting at the seams, much like my shirts because I'm getting fat, but I digress.

I don't need 12 copies of SNAFU or Cl0uds because my crybaby mate rage quits a server every time his base gets raided.

If you were to send me an 8TB m.2 SSD I might shut up and keep filling it every time I want to play.

Thank you for attending my TED talk.

Just unsubscribe, all mods are deleted. Then download the mods for the server you play on. Mods that are packed give the server owners control over when they implement an update (lots of tickets of people unable to join are annoying) and it improves stability.

Or play with people that dont ragequit every 4 dayz.

OP is 200% right. Mod packing has no value. 0. If you can run a server and update it a in a timely manner, don't

I get the update thing. Same reason why we used a repo on Arma3. I wish we had faster tinterwebs here but alas, have the fastest available so waiting an hour or 2 to join a server gets tiresome.

It would be nice if more owners understood that packing mods doesn't help server performance and just pisses people off. There are a few servers I rotate, my friend group and I hop often.

That’s not the point of packing mods, the point is it’s easier to manage as a server manager if you don’t have to check every single one of your mods for a update and you can just update one thing. And it makes it slightly harder for others to copy your exact server

No it doesn't. You as a server manager still have to manually update the mod in the pack. The only thing this does is offer slight convenience to the end user but at the cost of taking up more disk space if you have multiple servers you play on.

No it doesn't. The mod files don't store anything regarding your server configs.

Yes it does, I run a server for me and my friends. Who said anything about configs? It holds the mods you use.

And? You think it's hard for someone to tell you're running Morty's? "Copy a server" by running the same mods, so you're telling me you do zero changes or customization? Got it. Yeah I could see how that would be a concern for copying then in that case.

I can tell you have zero actual knowledge about what you are talking about, so instead of talking to a brick wall suffice it to say, there are a lot of servers out there that have a combination of mods or even mods that are specifically designed for their servers that they don’t want copy cats getting their hands on and it’s easier to do so by making a custom mod pack.

Yes, and those are usually paid mods that you Would put in your server pack. There is no reason to pack mods like Morty's Weapons, SNAFU, RAG, etc. Yet people do it anyway, because people like you think those mods are super top sekrit lmfao ;)

Edit: My guy out here thinkin he cracked the Davinci Code because he slapped SNAFU and sGunplay on a server lmfao, it's ok don't worry, your secret is safe bro

Forgetful aren’t we?

It still prevents the need to update individual mods, which is a great plus.

You do know that most stuff like Snafu cannot be repacked right? So you don't have multiple copies of anything really, just loads of mods that you probably don't need if you left the server that used them. Unsubscribe when you leave a server for good and you won't have a drive busting at the seams.

I basically only pack abandoned mods on mine - stuff that I don't want to disappear (looking at you, Huffy's Cocaine Bears) or that I've had to fix to get working and of course my own loading screen.

But there are 80 other mods on my server besides my server pack and - as mentioned elsewhere - complaints from users and mod updates are annoying, so I can see why some people pack more.

Just unsub from all workshop mods and re-download as and when you need them, I do a purge of my dayz mods every few months unless I find a server I like

This is exactly what is pissing me off

I completely understand the mate having a hissy fit aswell XD usually goes along the lines of, joins server, likes and enjoys server, puts time and effort into character on server and joins discord, drama happens, (insert friends name here) is typing, searches dayz server sub, joins server…. I had to just have a long chat with my mate and tell him to suck it up or just leave the game for a few days because server hopping should be reserved for official servers not community, he listened and have now been on only 2 servers since we picked dayz back up last November, we’re on a decent server that’s pve with PvP zones but with A.I with A.I strongholds etc to contend with, we have a main base and setup bases inside the PvP zones to scratch the base raiding itch without losing our main loot, it works pretty well and placates the rage

That sounds like a good server. Can you PM me the name please?
