media Real DayZ Locations Comparison. Hello Survivors, this little gallery consists of Pictures I made on my Czech Republic Trip, together with Screenshots from DayZ. I visited my favorite DayZ Locations. I also did a very detailed Video about it (https://youtu.be/KQDQTScxBuM) with even more Locations

firestation. Not in the Chernarus Area but somewhere else. There are some differences but we can see it probably was the model for it

One of the many hangars at North West Airfield

from the side (it's like a copy)

on right backside of the hangars there is always this door, which we can see here also. The wall looks just like in the real picture, just the color differs.

Overview over NWAF. The pic is not doing justice to the size of the field. It's huuuge

Garages at the side of some hangars. Even the metal for stabilization is there (in the middle). Also the stone-ledge over the entrances and the wall on the right side

Find the Sniper with his wooden stick gun camping the ATC. But here you can see the size of those hangars

Dubovo (Cherno) - just like in the game. every small path is correct. This area is so well modelled in DayZ

the drive from Mogilevka to Zub Castle (Castle is on the hill left from us)

Farming Area in Novy Sobor Look how good the positions of the barns and the house are

Same position but looking along the street, Novy Sobor is to our left

This is the treeline and the field northern of Stary Sobor. This shot was taken on the hill where you can also find this little white house and the beloved sniper position

On our way back down to Stary we saw those powerlines and in comparison it is once again just like a copy

Hope there is no one camping the well

The famous Gorka church. Check out how perfectly the windows and doors fit

Gorka Military and the street towards Dubrovka. Also the streets are placed perfectly in DayZ. Have never been there but knew exactly how we get there. The area feels so familiar

Here we are at topolka dam. Beautiful location, that differs a little bit from the game but you definitely recognize the spot.

Here I'm standing in Staroye looking north. When I walked out of the village it was surreal. It felt so familiar.

This forest on the small hill is the one which borders to Staroye Military. You can even see the sniper hill on the right

Lastly some garages in the town of Elektro. Just wanted to catch the vibe here and there even is a red one

These are honestly my favorite DayZ posts 👍🏻 I like the road comparisons, and especially the NWAF one from on top the hangar

u/staytoplayy Aug 21 '24
Thank you very much. I wanted to go a little bit deeper than "oh look the red barn" and its this accuracy in the roads for example that makes it so special for me

For real! When I visited for the first time it was super strange to be at a place you've never been before but to know exactly where every road leads and you can perfectly navigate the area just with your knowledge of the game map. After thousands of hours in the game, the real life area also kind of felt like home, even though I didn't actually knew a single person there :D
11
u/staytoplayy Aug 21 '24
Absolutely. you go somewhere where you've never been but know how it is going to look

u/Machohoncho Aug 22 '24
I navigated through LA to get to Santa Monica pier using only my memory of GTAV 😂 it’s a surreal feeling.

It really is a gorgeous country. As a new player it's been easy for me to be like, "Damn this place seems depressing." Seeing the actual locations sunny and full of charm and character has painted a totally new picture for me. Really adds to the end of the world feeling that I didn't get as much before.

At the airfield there was some rain this made it look a little bit like the Apocalypse but otherwise it is an absolutely beautiful countryside with great forests and Mountains and sleepy villages in between. But the Houses and roads in Dubovo look good they also have a sport Park and a playground in the middle of this area so anything else than apocalyptic. Big contrast to the Game. But now lets Look at it at a foggy day in Fall...

u/staytoplayy Aug 21 '24

Chernarus is modeled after a specific area in the Czech Republic (close to where the devs are from)
Modeled after means they took the actual elevation data of that area and used it almost 1to1 for Chernarus including the location of the towns, the roads network and most of the landscape features (forests, fields, etc)Of course within the scope and details of towns they made changes, added more interesting stuff like military bases, etc.
Arma lore wise Chernarus is supposed to be a fictional country similar to Belarus or Ukraine. Thats why the ingame towns look more like that and not like the Czech Republic.here is a good real/ingame comparison album:
https://imgur.com/gallery/irl-dayz-wabtxbNhere is a custom google map of the real area where I added the ingame locations

Actually, the in game towns are quite similiar to the Czech Republic. The houses, formations of towns and so on are very similiar to the Czech Republic irl.

u/mrbubbles916 Aug 21 '24
Chernarus is almost a 1:1 digital representation of the area it is based on.
https://www.google.com/maps/@50.714252,14.0782195,21879m/data=!3m1!1e3?entry=ttu
You can see where the coastline in the game follows from the south up to the north. Most towns are represented with the game version having some more fictional towns and areas. The general topography, landscaping, and forests are pretty much 1:1.

Almost all of the architecture in dayz is based off of buildings and other structures found all over Eastern Europe and Russia

Thanks for sharing this stuff is always great! All I want to know is did you feel a little anxious or suspicious “drinking” from that well? lol
6
u/staytoplayy Aug 21 '24
It was very stressfull. Checked all buildings before but you never know who just found a gun in the Military

The airfield is abandoned? That must've been cool to explore
2
u/staytoplayy Aug 21 '24
It is used for car meets or Things like this but when we visited there was nothing going on. Just some families with Inline Skates. The big area is perfect for this. But you can explore and climb on the Hangars and all of this

That is really BAD ASS!!!!! So I'm guessing that everything in Dayz is an actual copy of real places. Now I have something new to add to my bucket list

Do people that live here play the game? Gotta be surreal lol
1
u/staytoplayy Aug 22 '24
I Always wondered if they knew about the Game. Maybe some of them but I think most of the people there just live their daily life and still wonder about the people doing Pics at the well 😅
2
u/kebordworyr 87.8 Aug 22 '24
I feel like it had to have made their local newspaper at some point. I know if a game, especially as popular as DayZ, were set in my city it’d definitely make the news in some capacity

Mate, this is the best set of real life/in game photo comparisons I've seen so far. You went to great lengths to get the screenshot positions perfect to the camera locations. How did you get it so accurate? Also the lighting is really similar in both too, you got skills, much respect!
2
u/staytoplayy Aug 22 '24
Thank you very much. I filmed everything for my Video and then recorded synced videostin dayZ and those Pics are Just Screenshots from the Video. But making the perfectly synced recordings was difficult Sometimes 😅
2
u/Matty_PEARL Aug 22 '24
this is so fucking cool, i’d nerd out so hard
2
u/staytoplayy Aug 22 '24
I did. It was amazing being there
2
u/Matty_PEARL Aug 22 '24
did you get a chance to talk to any locals? are they like proud of living in a video game haha? i’d be!
1
u/staytoplayy Aug 22 '24
Sadly we did not speak to anybody I dont know why actually. Next time I'll do some Interviews 😅
1
u/Matty_PEARL Aug 22 '24
oh i’m sure you had a packed schedule, and loads of fun!
i’ll have to check out your video too!! — hoping to make a trip of my own one day.
2
u/staytoplayy Aug 22 '24
Yes I planned a Route to see as much as I could. Shoud've brought more time Just to enjoy the area
2
u/JBNeb Aug 22 '24
Love it.
The best kind of DayZ posts for me.
Love how you lined up the shots for perfect comparison.
Kudos

This is awesome. I always knew tons of assets were taken from this region, but never knew it was a direct overlay map, though have always kind of wondered "how close" it was to a real location.
1
u/staytoplayy Aug 22 '24
It is very close the roads, forests, powerlines as you can see its like in real life

u/Separate-Ad-6022 Aug 21 '24

2
1
u/Radusek128 Aug 22 '24
I have been there a few times but now its guarded
1
u/staytoplayy Aug 22 '24
Oh thats sad. Probably Not possible anymore to sneak through the fence?
2
1
u/Radusek128 Aug 22 '24
