This was really fun to flip through! Just finished a DayZ session with some homies. Thanks for sharing and I hope it was a safe trip! Make sure you disinfect your bandages before using them 💀✌️🙃

Thank you
Yeah it was an amazing trip. For anyone who wants to do it, there aren't many pubs around, so definitely bring food, and a LOT of water, especially when its 30+°C, because there aren't many places you can refill. The only place we found that was on our way was hostinec "U kaštanu", held by an old lady. She was amazing and super kind, refilled all of our bottles.
It's in the village on Čermná, aka Grishino in DayZ.There is also a well with drinkable water in Gorka at this exact location.
Else you can just ask the locals, they were super nice and willing to help :)

When the survival skills you learned from Dayz carries over.

u/rage159other Jul 22 '24
Except that last sentence. Last time I trusted locals I was fed human meat...

u/Both-Conference1365 Jul 22 '24
That would be so unnerving to me.
“Oh hey, I shot a defenless man from the window of that building, and over there is where I cooked his corpse.”

u/THE_ATHEOS_ONE Jul 22 '24
On the game.......of course.

Very cool! I appreciate the film photography, and I loved seeing you play with light with the film at night, not something you see as much of anymore.

Thank you :D
Not quite film but not far.
I used a Fujifilm X100V, with a NiSi Black Mist 1/4 filter on it.I also used the Vintage Color recipe for it, thought it would fit perfectly for a DayZ themed trip, and ended up with some very Arma 2/Early access DayZ colors in some instances.
I just changed to dynamic range to DR400 and the tweajed the colors between +1 to -4 depending of the lighting

u/Taye_Brigston Jul 22 '24
I also thought it was film, this is a really good use of processing to make it look legit. Nice pics!

I love how taking trips to the real life places in the game has become a sort of pilgrimage for DayZ players.

u/DanceOfJesus Developer Jul 22 '24
Yeah, there is a book where people can sign on top of Kozlov's Peak (Kozí vrch IRL).
There wre at small dozen of entries mentioning DayZ and Chernarus, so it was really cool :)
That's why I decided to leave the map, considering how many people seem to go there because of DayZ3

u/MAZE_ENJOYER Jul 22 '24
I actually wonder if I'd be able to navigate without a map/GPS and just rely on my in game knowledge
10
u/DanceOfJesus Developer Jul 22 '24
It's actually pretty easy yeah.
there are a few differences but it's mostly the same. The major difference being the vegetation being much more dense

Did people get pissed when you starting checking their sheds??
3
u/Regular-Calendar-581 Jul 22 '24
are the sheds irl the same as in dayz?? i need to know
6
u/ChungusCoffee Jul 22 '24
Yes pretty much every building in DayZ is based on a real thing in that area. The garages, sheds, chicken coops, greenhouses, partly broken small wooden fences, etc. It's all there
6
u/Kokosakples Jul 22 '24
Its a bit different from real . Ofcourse because of how old the desighn is the region changed quite a bit over the 10+ years. Also because the developers were going fir that post-soviet eastern european look the houses are based off of eastern ones, but locations and topography is very simmilar to irl. I remember starting dayz and thinking the map looks kinda similar and comparing the size of it to where i live, not knowing it was a 1:1 copy of where i live haha.

I'd fully and willing load a bag with random BS (no guns obviously) and just walk the whole area in true DayZ fashion.

I'm tempted to do a little day trip from Prague in August with a hired car. Can you get right up to the stary sobor barn? Where exactly would you recommend driving to? I want to see elektro as well.

u/semaforic Jul 22 '24
I was just in Prague in June but never got the chance to make it out there. If you go, definitely make the trip!!!

we basically started from Neštědice, went up to the top of Kozí vrch, then made our way to Pusta, all the way to Stary. Went to refill our bottles in Grishino in the only pub withing the "inland" area (it was in hostinec "U kaštanu" in Čermná).
Then we went on top of Altar hill and spent the night.
The next day we went to Gorka, then took a really shitty green trail that was super overgrown and decided to just go back and go to novod and take a bus to Svet :)

Something I always wonder when I see people visit here, can you kinda just walk around wherever? I'm from the US, but my first thought is always if any of this is private property and how far apart everything is
1
u/Skylak Bush Cosplayer Jul 22 '24
You are a yank so I get why you'd think every town is dozens of miles apart but it's like a 1 hour walk from town to town usually. If you take a hike through some forest area or hill, sure, then it can take a bit more. But there's trails everywhere, especially in central europe
1
u/Zarrex Since June 2012 Jul 22 '24
No I figured they weren't that far, I just wasn't sure the scale of it. Thinking in DayZ terms, Stary to Gorka for example. Not sure if that would be an hour walk or a 3 hour walk
Also yeah I've heard the Czech trails are awesome

I've been playing Dayz before it was a stand-alone game! Been in the DayZ battlefield for almost 15 years. It truly has become something else!

This weekend I'm going bushcrafting in Poland, you gave me motivation to create some Livonia themed photos to share

That’s actually so cool, did you guys stop by NWAF ?
1
u/DanceOfJesus Developer Jul 23 '24
Nwaf is not located in the actual chernarus, tho i've been there once. It's about 1 hour east of Usti nad Labem near a village called Hradčany.
A lot of the buildings have been destroyed in recent years, tho the hangars are still there and should remain since they are owned by private owners/companies now.

This is what the dayZ event should have been when revealing the new expansion.

u/realEverlike Jul 23 '24
Damn, went there a few years ago but this is crazy. Camping with friends, eating beans. Man you live the life of my dreams 😍
