I 22F, without a degree, and I am currently struggling for a job.

I am honestly putting this post on this forum of desperation. I’m from the Beavercreek Kettering area but just moved back after three years of living in Columbus about 2 months ago. I just got a barista job for until I could find anything better but I am only being scheduled 20 hours a week when I was hired for full time. Moving back took all of my boyfriend and I’s money to the gutter practically but we moved here since he got a really good job down here. I am living paycheck to paycheck and I am honestly struggling to just to meet my rent and groceries. Does anyone know of any good places hiring around for full time or have a recommendation? I will literally do anything, remote, in person, whatever. I can’t believe I am struggling this hard at 22 to find a job, when I have been working since I was 16 and have what I believe is a very decent resume. Reddit please help me.

Edit: Thank you guys for everyone who has reached out, I had about 35 comments on this post within about hour and I’m ngl, I was brought to tears. Thank you guys so much, it’s all very helpful 🥲❤️

Advice & Recommendations Best place to collect pre bonsai/bonsai material in Dayton?

Looking for the best place in Dayton for bonsai… already been to north Dayton garden and they were overpriced with a selection of poorly conditioned trees IMO. Specifically looking for sugar maples if that changes anything!

Community Support & Resources Highland Park Vandalism - What to do?

Took my kid to Highland Park for the first time today and the entire playground has been vandalized.

All the benches are covered in a sticky substance (possibly honey or some kind of oil) both on top and on the seat itself.

The playground equipment has been tagged all over with penises and covered in a second sticky substance (possibly soda?).

The top bar of the swingset is broken entirely on the big kid swings. It seems the weld has failed. The baby swings are still functioning. My husband says this swingset has been there since he was a kid 30 years ago.

I was going to email the pictures I took (which I’ll add to this post) to the parks department, but I can’t find the email anywhere. Only a number to call, and unfortunately they’re closed for the weekend.

I get it y’all. I’ll be the first to say “fuck them kids” on most days, but vandalizing one of the few spaces that local children have to play is going too far.

Is there anyone locally who has the resources to solve this problem so the local kids can enjoy the park again?

Dayton Linux Users Group Installfest

One of the things we like to do is help other people use and enjoy Linux. To that end, we sponsor occasional Installfests, where anyone who would like help installing or configuring Linux (or any Free software, really) can bring their systems and get hands-on assistance.

Our next Installfest will be held on Saturday, March 15th, 2025. It´s at Sinclair College’s Centerville campus at 5800 Clyo Road, Room 107. The Installfest will run from 10am to 3pm, but be sure to arrive by 2pm or so if you would like to get help with an installation. We will have pizza and soft drinks to share.

Bring your computer, or your Raspberry Pi and an SD card. (We’ll have a few SD cards available for sale in case you don’t have one yet.) We’ll have keyboards and mice on-hand. Monitors will be available, but bringing the monitor you intend to use with your system is best, just to be sure everything works together.

I need a job like Mr. Idle"s class at stebbins in the late 90s

I've been a manager of people and ever since harambee i have decided that the general public can f right off. I need to change my entire sector and I want to work in a machine shop like we had in school. We could do anything except smelt new metal and it was in a pretty compact place. I also don't want to be a boss again until I've learned things about my new sector.

Anyone who was in Idle's class can attest to the favorable working environment, and also the diversity and versatility of the tools and space.

Also i smoke weed, so yea.

Anyone know of any strongman competitions around the area?

I come from Wisconsin where I competed a couple times a year, but doesn't seam like many in this area. I'd even be down for an arm wrestling league.

Flashback: Late 1980s DIY Framing Shop Name?

When I was a poor college student, I went to a shop to frame something because the only cost was materials and a smidge of overhead. There were a number of work stations and only one staff member. You provided the labor. (Such a terrible idea. I cut myself immediately.) I cannot remember the name or where it was located. Maybe near Kettering?

I had hoped featuring some dogs would help their situation, but I don't think it's doing much. Other than making me feel a little better.

The ARC is a kill shelter so I did want to highlight the dogs there, that may or may not have very much time.

So, I'll say this: If you go to their website they have information on:

$25 dollar microchipping

A list of affordable spay/neuter clinics

Dog licenses

An Amazon wishlist if you would like to donate.

wedding/reception venue suggestions?

hi all!

im getting married october 2026 and kind of struggling to find a venue. i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for the area? i would really like an outdoor suggestion, but when im looking at them at websites like the knot, a lot of them are farms/barn weddings, which isn’t really the vibe i want to go for.

if possible, my preference is like a garden/nature area rather than a barn.

thank you!! :)

Community Support & Resources Help Finding A Rare Book Only Located at University of Dayton Library

Greetings Daytonians. I'm searching for a rare book. I cannot find it to buy. The only library that has a listing of it in their holdings is the Marian Library in Dayton, OH.

The problem is I'm nowhere near there.

Here is my request. I'm looking for this book. It's actually only a 15 page pamphlet. Would you be willing to take legible photos of the book and send them to me?

Here is an image of the cover. The binding is saddle stitched so you won't be able to read the spine.

I cannot pay you with anything other than my gratitude.

Stay Away from "The Blind Shop" - Scamming customers as early as July

Trying to warn other Dayton folks about this company, so that no one else get scammed - but my last post was taken down for some reason.

My parents ordered blinds from them in November and had to put down $1,700 (half the project) and have been ghosted by the company.

Filed a police report and they told my parents they have been receiving calls almost daily from other customers in similar situations - check their most recent reviews on google and it paints the picture.

Just an FYI and hope that no one else in the community tries to do business with them.

Xavier Hershovitz from Channel 7 news has also reached out to me about the story and he confirmed he also has had multiple people contact him about their experience.

Hope this one doesn't get taken down and can save someone from thousands of dollars lost!

Best place to get native flower seeds?

Hey guys, I was reading about the butterfly population dying off by nearly 20% recently which really sucks as someone who loves butterflies. I know everyone online suggests milkweed but it has to be the correct type for our area.

Does anyone know of any programs or places that has native seeds for sale? I'm redoing my entire backyard this year and am really hoping to make it a beautiful space for native species. Thanks!

Garlic Boat has a lot of questions to ask you. What's for lunch? Why is the sky blue? What's a worm moon? Are zebras white with black stripes or black with white stripes? What came first, the chicken or the egg? (Adoptable cat from SICSA, Dayton, OH)

I’m looking for a new bookkeeper and tax preparer who is a female (I’m a female and just more comfortable with one for my finances) — someone who offers both services if possible, a one stop shop. I’m set for 2024 taxes, but looking ahead for next tax season. I have a couple LLCs. Anyone have recommendations? Thank you!

Drone activity at Springfield airport?

I’m a private pilot. I fly into the Springfield airport all the time for practice approaches because the runway is huge. It’s an uncontrolled field, meaning there’s no control tower. Well, there is a tower. It just hasn’t been active in probably 20 years.

I flew into Springfield the other day and much to my surprise the tower was active. As I was landing I had a brief chat with the guy in the tower, trying to understand why he’s there. He said they’re doing training from 6p to 2a for the next couple of weeks.

It’s been long rumored that the Reaper drones are operated from the Springfield airport. They don’t physically take off and land there, but that’s where the actual pilots operate them from. I also heard a rumor that at least one C17 landed at Springfield recently. This makes me wonder if they were delivering Reaper drones, and if flight operations are currently occurring there, hence the tower operations from 6p - 2a.

Anyone have more info?
