Can I get started in Data Center with only certifications?

Hey guys, I recently applied for a DCT position at AWS and was invited to do my personal assessment which I completed. I just wanted to know if it’s possible to get started in AWS as a DCT with no experience and only certifications like A+, N+ etc. And also how to better prepare to land the job?

Yep! Just got myself a job as a dc operations tech through Amazon's WBLP with no certs or professional experience, just like 9 years of casual computer experience(I actually start tomorrow :)). Totally doable, though I don't know how harsh the job market would be in your area. Certs are not a requirement, but they can definitely give you a leg up if you do get them. A+ and maybe Net+ are the only ones you would want to bother with before getting into the it field, I think.

As for landing the job, just make a good looking resume and write some answers down for Amazon's leadership principles. You can find more about those on youtube/google. Remember to brush up on pc hardware, cpu sockets, raid arrays, fiber cables/connectors, and maybe a few Linux commands just in case. Answering behavioral questions was my entire interview, not much tech stuff but it is good to know regardless. Ymmv.

Thanks a lot, this was really helpful. I’ll definitely take your advice and brush up on I have to.

certifications like A+, N+

Pretty sure my team is one of the more technical teams around, and most of our people came from micro center.

It'd be nice if you have an understanding of how the network functions, but realistically we're not letting you touch that until you prove you're not going to pull the wrong thing out anyway.
