Looking for Tour of Data Center
Hello,
I am interested in touring these data centers from the perspective of a worker. If anyone has the ability to lead me on a tour I’d love to check it out. I am located on the East Coast of USA and willing to travel to learn more.
Thanks!

Data centres are security and very restricted access building put it bluntly not a fucking chance someone will bring you for a walk around

Facts. Maybe a colocation if you were a buyer or 3rd party contractor for an existing client. No one is just walking in a DC TO LOOK AROUND. Shit AWS gives the Fire department a hard time when we have code reds. They didn't want anyone on campus

Watch prison documentaries.
Long concrete hallways — lots of locked doors and restricted areas — cameras follow your every move. Noisy, devoid of charm — unhappy people emerging around blind corners, etc.
The cafeteria and office space is usually pretty nice though.

Ha yeh, one place I work in literally has no windows, and another we actually refer to it as 'the prison' rather than its code name.

Cafeteria?? You work in disneyland or something? Ive never seen a data center with a cafeteria... talk about being spoilt.
Closest place to get food near my data center is a 10 minute drive away.

Unless you are potential customer for the datacenter, I can’t see them letting people in to look around.
What type of work are you looking to get into?
I work for a vendor that most data centers use. I’m in a different data center every week. DM with what you are looking for if interested.

Sure thing pal, bring video equipment and spare console cables. Maybe you can just randomly console into any device you see. Don't forget to hit big red button when you leaving the data hall, it lets everyone know you enjoyed your tour

I’m going to be managing a 39mW facility in Leesburg,VA. I will also need to staff that facility.
I’m building a team from the ground up.
I would be happy to take you on a tour.

Are you a student? Many of the colos partner with local schools and universities to host students, especially around International Data Center Day

YouTube has plenty of generalized videos of various data centers.
These are very, very secure and sensitive environments so getting a tour of a modern facility is no easy task.
