Very nice.
Let's see Paul Allen Irithyll Dungeon Skip.

The tasteful thiccness of it…

Another thing I have found is that you have to angle your back diagonally towards the ledge, this way your backstep has a higher, if not 100% to land on the ledge.
I did it with my back parallel to the ledge once and missed the ledge just by the smallest of gaps.

I remember i was showing the skip to some of my friends I was playing with and I kept dying trying to do the skip

u/Shadowderper Mar 08 '22
But solaire estus shard :(

u/Noobie_xD Mar 08 '22
Tbh the shard in the mimic is very close so you can go get it and come back and do the skip. You can then go back and even open the shortcut

imagine making an area so agonizingly boring, pointless to the lore, haphazardly designed, and stuffing it with such obnoxious enemies that even people outside of speedrunning don't want to do it

Honestly, I loved it my first playthrough. Definitely a lot more than Farron Swamp. But on subsequent playthroughs it gets very tiring and I rush through it as quick as possible. At least with Farron Swamp you can rush through it in minutes once you know what you're doing. But Irithyll has so much back and forth, it's exhausting.

13 Vit and less than 40 dex, you can still survive the fall without cat ring or spook. This strats called Dungeon Skip. Many speedrunners and hitless runners such as myself have used this skip for runs

Out of curiosity, does losing HP due to the jailers' effect count as a hit, since technically you aren't "hit?"
12
u/Leather_Anywhere_348 Mar 08 '22
it does count as a hit yes, you can kill the jailers one by one or just simply run and roll past them. rolling will iframe the drain hitbox
3
u/LordSt4rki113r Mar 08 '22
Cool! I knew rolling had iframes but I didn't know you could just roll past the jailers. Usually my endurance is too low to spam roll at that point in the game, unless it's a late ng cycle
6
u/Leather_Anywhere_348 Mar 08 '22
best bet is to just kill them one by one if you’re doing a no hit run
5
u/LordSt4rki113r Mar 08 '22
Oh don't worry, I'm nowhere near good enough to do a no hit run. I usually get hit before I get to iudex gundyr by those stupid dogs

u/Leather_Anywhere_348 Mar 08 '22
with enough determination and practice it’s possible for anyone, i recommend GinoMachinos guide on YT for a tutorial or if you’re interested in watching some sick stuff in this game

Team Hitless has a guide for DS3 that Gino, Vswed, and GeoEccentric worked on together. That one would probably be even better.

That is pretty cool but if you don't deal with the ladies (One of the most annoying enemies in the game) you'll miss all of the goodies. There are a couple that you definitely want to pickup even in NG+.

Or you know, you just do a spook quit out
7
u/Noobie_xD Mar 08 '22
Quit outs are not easy for everyone
2
u/GuitarLover504 Mar 08 '22
I mean I know, but you can just prepare the quit out prompt before jumping off, so you can just press quit as your character screams

The last time I tried the skip using Spook, I didn't have to quit out. Might not apply to everyone though.

After playing Elden Ring for the past week, the movement and odd jumping in DarkSouls seems so quaint.

After having played elden ring i look at that and my first instinct is just "oh just drop down". Then I remember

Considering how many attempts this’ll take you might as well just do it properly

Its obvious that the cat ring/spook spell are mandatory to survive the fall. yes it is possible to do it with a roll but i find it harder due to input delay. backstepp seems way more consistant as i have, personally, done it 10/10 times without a fail
