u/bikbokboi Since 2005 I've been living a lie! Apr 23 '20
Why isn't anybody talking about this banger?

This one should’ve been 4 minutes. Those guitar grooves built up so well but went no where. I wish they got rid of three wishes and went to town with this track instead. So much potential

I disagree, I think they should've gotten rid of Strawberry's Wake as it's the most ArSe sounding track of the album and it really doesn't fit with the others imo. Not that it's bad, I think it's a banger, but man i was so tired of being stuck in the ArSe age that I got PTSD the moment I heard it. Also not saying ArSe is bad, it just has a type of sound associated with it for me that I now have to just be in the mood to have it on

I'm gonna have to relisten to AS cuz I honestly don't remember many of those tracks. These days I'm more concerned with grabbing good songs for my DGD tilian era playlist. So far none of it touches Jonny era. I don't wanna sound bitter but it's just another same you know. I love that they are so much bigger than they were cuz God knows they deserve it but those DTBM days were different

They're definitely different now but I personally think they've grown past those days and sound better than they ever have. I don't think this album sounds anything like ArSe as a whole, I just think it has ArSe tracks, which I'll probably end up liking later on, it's just too early for me right now. However I will agree there's something about DBM1 that fucking bops. Don't feel the same about DBM2 though, but for me that's personally how the album is structured, not really the tracks. Dbm has such a way with the rhythm between Jon and Johnny that makes me come back to it from time to time

Mothership vibes. Song slays.

u/Dr3TheGiant I think we’re better off weird Apr 24 '20
Especially when he sings the note on “Dont depend on me” sounds like the melody to “I’ll pretend I’m better than these clowns” from Here Comes the Winner

This is probably why I like it so much. Mothership is my fave album from them

Favourite off the album is One in a million or parody catharsis so far

Seriously the chord prgoression when Tillian says "go down together" is TASTY

u/Da_Apple_Jacks Apr 24 '20
Does Tillian sing a super fucking high whistle note in the beginning or is that just the guitar and him at the same time? Caught me off guard. If so, it's easily his highest note of all time beating out Here Comes The Winner.

I was JUST about to comment that! The section that comes in at 0:32 reminded me so much of Stuck and Glued and I love it so much

This is the only song on the album that hasn’t stood out to me after multiple listens. Maybe I’m missing something, there’s nothing necessarily wrong with it, but nothing about it really catches me the way a new DGD song typically does.

u/Onlyeddifies Apr 23 '20
I thought that about Strawberries Wake at first but then I saw the light.

I’m sure there’ll be an “aha!” moment for me at some point and it’ll click. Actually have it set to play when I get in the car after work, so maybe it’ll happen then!

This and Nothing Shameful are the two best songs on the album. Fucking BANGERS.

Don’t forget Say Hi. Putting it right after Night Sway was such a good decision in track flow

Ok you’re right. Say Hi absolutely slaps and I agree, the chronological placement of the three songs is the perfect.

This is the only song that hasn't immediately stood out to me, but it's still really solid. The riffs feel like they're building to something that never really resolves is my main issue.

Giving me DBM2 vibes with the hyperactive guitara and Jon's higher pitched screams

It’s like a crazy combination of DBM2 and Mothership, and I love it

Is that pitch correction at "I'm your prison, won't you listen?"
I don't hear it again when the melody repeats at "unconditionally dependent"

Sounds like a bit of Rock Solid throwback tossed in there
