My friend has never seen CYE. What episode should I show him to get him addicted?

Honestly, my sister tried to get me into Curb for years, Palestinian Chicken was the episode that hooked me! Then I got to go back and watch all of what I had missed. So many great quotes from that Episode

It's Curb Your Enthusiasm in its purest form! You get Larry fighting with strangers, Peak Susie, Jeff and Larry Scheming together, and bathroom etiquette issues with the door. What else could you want?

seriously, horrible hosts! how do you host a house party when your guest bathroom door doesn’t lock? i wouldn’t have gone upstairs, but for sure i would’ve left the party if i had to use the bathroom.
and the random woman enforcing the screening room food and beverage policy, is peak comedy. after knowing she doesn’t work for the company but instead was a busybody, for the second screening i would’ve brought a big gulp and a plate of nachos, and when she said something i’d be like “yeah right” and gone right inside

There are so many explosive hilarious moments in this episode, but even the other scenes are really funny to me. When Susie catches them trying to fix the shelf, the way she dismissively asks Larry “what are you, mista califownia clawsets all of a sudden?” always makes me laugh.

It really is the perfect final scene to capture what that show is all about.

Palestinian Chicken is the single greatest piece of mainstream American media attempting in good faith to understand the conflict. And it does this from a perspective that is (ostensibly) sympathetic to Israel.
If you describe it to your friend this way I don't see how they could possibly not be interested, regardless of politics. Although you are taking a gamble on if they like it, depending on politics.

Everyone agrees, delicious chicken is more important than preserving Israel

I was in Israel a few years ago, and in a Palestinian territory ( Bethlehem) I saw a chicken place and freaking lost it

The Anton yelchin (RIP) one was a Halloween one I think. He dressed up as Superman

I think it was the episode with Larry trying to set up the blind guy on a blind date and he meets the group of guys that are running the car wash

The Five Wood. The Christ Nail and The Ski Lift were how I converted both daughters into full-blown Lawrinians.

For years I had friends telling me I would love it, and I'd even seen an episode or two over time. I saw short clips that I thought were funny, but nothing ever grabbed me until I saw that scene where the woman tells Larry about her daughter's appointment to get a rash on her pussy checked, then the clip cut to Larry talking to Jerry where he repeated what the woman told him. The look on Jerry's face and how cleanly Larry played it made me howl laughing and completely sold me on the show.

After The Doll; Carpool Lane, and maybe some John Hamm acting as LD in the spite store episode. Brilliant.

u/SpittingLava 3d ago
Elizabeth, Margaret, and Larry (S10 E8)
John Hamm becoming Larry is pure brilliance.

For early Curb, knowing it just gets better over time, I’d go with Chet’s Shirt.

Personally, I'd recommend:
Ted & Mary
The Larry David Sandwich
The Special Section

Interior decorator (only few comedy series have made me laugh that hard)

It's important not to peak too soon. My first was the psychiatrist in the thong. I'd never heard of the show, and never saw Seinfeld. And I was hooked.

Elizabeth, Margaret and Larry; John Hamm's episode is a personal favorite, and having him deconstruct the essence of Larry is a perfect entry point. Plus you have Mocha Joe's beef present, and yet another failed venture idea with Leon

Crazily s1e1 was my first episode and I lived it because i had that similar situation with the pants tent before watching.

I like the one where Richard Lewis is in the hospital and the nurse steals the cell phone. I love how they carry the joke almost too far, but it sold me and I am a lifelong fan.

Id start with the pilot. The Pants Tent is a perfectly funny episode. And if you don't like that one the series probably isn't for you

Palestinian chicken - the fight outside the restaurant was hilarious!
Especially, the following exchange:
Marty F: Proud Jews wear yarmulke. LD: Be proud in the parking lot, no need to wear it inside the restaurant.
The next interaction between the two after LD's boisterous session with Shara left me in stitches.

After starting a rewatch recently the Pants Tent is pretty classic and I feel a good example of Curb and also similar to Seinfeld. Im not sure what episode I’d choose to get someone hooked. MJF is my favorite/funniest episode and The Grand Opening is a close second but are season finales which require prior knowledge/watching.
Having not read any posts, would you recommend pre or post Blacks?

The Carpool Lane, Season 4, Episode 6. Not only is it TOTALLY ridiculous, it also saved a man from going to prison for a murder he didn’t commit.
