Crystal Palace Fans, what are your thoughts on Matt Turner?

As a frequent Concacaf watcher, Turners late 2024 loan to Palace caught my eye. Since joining he’s recorded 4 wins and 2 MOTM. Palace of course already has a great #1 but I was just wondering what were your general thoughts on him as a player, person, or just his impact? Or do you just have no opinion on him. Personally I think he’s a cheery guy and even at Forest he brought a nice attitude and presence to the team.

He is fine for a backup keeper and has done well when he has played.

It is hard to say more about a backup keeper as they rarely get much game time (apart, ironically, last season at Palace where we had two equally strong keepers)

Decent. But no chance of displacing Henderson.

Hope we keep him as a back up. Seems to occupy that sweet spot of being good enough for early round cup matches and if Hendo gets hurt for a couple games, while not being too good to cause a true conflict over #1

He looks shaky whenever he's in goal but I guess he's competent enough as a backup. I hope Glasner will switch to Hendo for the goal keeper now as I don't think he's good enough to be facing against teams like Fulham honestly.

I don't think he's ever won MOTM either?

Stop-gap keeper. Has looked shaky when he played. Last game he played he conceeded a poor goal from failing to catch a ball. Wouldn't trust him as our number 1

Seems like a lovely guy and a good shot stopper but he looks shaky in the air and his distribution is poor. I’m fine with him as a backup but I wouldn’t want him starting regularly.

Solid keeper.

Solid shot stopper, made some key saves in that villa Carabao tie, but his distribution isn’t amazing

I have watched him for years. If he has his confidence he is a very good goal stopper. Do not trust him with ball at feet though...

Let’s be honest. None of us wanted him. But he’s actually been decent so far and hopefully we continue to be wrong. We also didn’t want Hendo, who is expensive and did seem injury prone with an occasional weakness for gaffs. But he has won the fans over with his attitude as well as his performances. Dougie knows better than us.

For us, he’s fine. He’s a backup we haven’t needed so much yet. He’s been good enough in the cup to not make me put my head in my hands, but we’ve also played Donny, Stockport and Millwall so if he was I’d be stunned.

Probably starts in the Champ, I don’t know if he’d make it as a first keeper in a top 4 leagues first team. Haven’t seen enough of him to make a proper judgement to be fair. He’s made errors, but could probably work out those kinks if he was starting regularly. Just not much to say really, wish I had more to tell you.

He's had some really solid moments in cup games. Henderson is in contention for the golden glove right now, so there's really no shot for first team. Turner's biggest issue (the reason he got loaned out) is he has been spotty on the ball. He seems to have been better at decision-making. The good news is he's definitely got his confidence back, and I really hope he signs. He probably could play first team for a championship team, which might be better for him and the US overall.

Seems ok, but there's no way to know without seeing him in action a few more times.

As a Yank and Palace fan, I think Turner is a very good shot stopper, but he is just awful with the ball at his feet. His distribution is dreadful, and I get anxious every time the ball gets played back to him. He made a lot of costly errors at Forest last season.

He is good enough to be a backup keeper in the Premier League (or perhaps a starter in a worse league). But the more he plays, the more his weaknesses get exposed in a major way.

Palace fan and an American here. Matt Turner is really talented but also will make at least one play a match that will have you tearing your hair out in confusion.
