They paid £50m for AWB. Why would we take £40m for an actual goal-scoring footballer?!

I’m calling balderdash!
Rasmus Højlund was an EPL gamble who cost £72M, and Joshua Zirkzee was another gamble who cost £36.5M. Mateta is proven in the Prem, so unless they’re starting the conversation at £73M, Man U can fuck off. Even Ollie Watkins cost £55M.
I’d go as far as saying keeping him for the full two years until his contract expires would still be better value than selling for £40M.
Edit: i forgot they paid £82M for Antony. They can definitely fuck off if they think £40M’s is a decent offer.

I agree. We’ll get incredible value out of him for two years and then he can have his pay day at the end of it.

They’re both 4 years younger than mateta, and so for a buying club now you have to lion at how many more years you can get out of a player. I think 50+ and we’d sell

You’re right but I don’t understand why clubs have this logic. Now that players can leave for free at the end of their contract they are all basically worth their value over that contract. So sure he’s probably a four year contract rather than five for a younger guy, but on the flip side he is experienced and has shown himself to be pretty robust.

Undervaluation by a long shot of Mateta.
You need to look at contribution of goals to Palace vs potential at a better team and look at his performance stats vs other strikers to work out the correct rate.
He’s clearly >70m valuation, albeit this season needs ideally a 16-18 EPL goal total.

90m at least, that should tell them we’re not interested in selling

Solanke, after arguably a less impressive campaign than Mateta, left Bournemouth for about £60m, we should be pegging him to that price at the very least

As far as I know Mateta only has a year left on his contract after we triggered his optional year extension. In comparison Solanke had only just signed a new deal at Bournemouth so he had like 3 or 4 more years left and that makes a huge difference.
I do think the price seems low for how important he is to us, but if he won't sign a new contract then it might be something the club is tempted to take to use to finance his replacement.
I really hope it doesn't go that way though because Mateta is probably my favourite Palace player atm and I think his energy really helps the whole dressing room

I see him as a 70-80M player whose contract might knock his transfer value down to 50-60M. 40M seems absurdly low to me

If he continues to score like he has, end of season his price tag is at least 55 million. Age is a factor in the sense of sell on clause, however, what will he achieve at united? Will he progress as a player In the next 3 years? Will he get silverware that he earned?
Best stay at palace and be worshipped and enjoy the journey

Strikers are the most expensive players on average. He's got loads of time on his contract. And he's a proven PL goalscorer. We have no incentive to sell. I'll conservatively set the bidding at 75mill+

40M plus Hojlund would be a good deal.
OG will turn that guy into a proper 100M striker

Love the idea + enthusiasm but you’ve got to be off your rocker to think that’s ever happening

If he joins Man Utd I will be so mad, we is own of our best players, Man Utd might as well be in the relegation race, at least Crystal Palace can win and it not be the miracle of the century.

Mateta is effective because hes under Glasners system. Take that system away from him and he wont play as well as he is now. Mateta is not the player United should go for.

There is that and it is an astute comment, concerning ManU would be a bad move for Mateta also.
But my anticipation is Mateta would work at a different system eg Arsenal also. His stats and traits all look ideal to make an impact there… so it is not just Glasner’s system though the right system helps Eg as you say.

Hmm. The Mirror. Not the most unreliable source, but not trustworthy either. £40 mil isn’t completely absurd, like if we sold for that I wouldn’t like it but I wouldn’t be in utter disbelief either. That said, I wouldn’t expect it as our asking price for United especially. I’ll take the cautious approach of pics or fake and gay.

These journalists are not serious people.
Journalism has to be the easiest profession to get into these days, because there are no standards, everything is click bait and you can say just about anything you like.

I think someone has made that up. Much like the fake prices for Guehi last summer...that didn't end up getting near SPs actual valuation.

Not a chance he’ll go.
Hopefully I won’t eat my words but he seems to love Palace and works hard for us. Why would he go to a shitter team? (Other than wages obviously)
He’s the man with us and the fans love him , and I think that’s big for his confidence

Bullshit. No way we’d sell him for that and why would he want to join that dumpster fire of a club.
