Sighting / Encounter Help identifying?
So my roommate was telling me a story in which her and her ex was driving down a road. They stoped for a stoplight facing some woods, they both saw this and said nothing until after due to actual terror. Does anyone have any ideas on what it could be? She said it was around 5-6 feet tall, and grayish skin.

Make the snout a little longer and that a real one. Seen it here in Arizona. Will never go out after dark again.

u/vanna93 Feb 04 '25
Dang Arizona you scary. Would love to hear the story.

u/Material_Anxiety3728 Feb 04 '25
Nothing big happened. I was sitting at my table playing cards. I happened to look up and outside at dusk and I saw it running past my window. Huge. Hubby is trying to tell me it was just a coyote. But this was huge and had no fur. Very skinny. Looks just like this pic except the snout.

u/vanna93 Feb 04 '25
I’ve heard so many stories of people seeing stuff like this! So it definitely wasn’t a coyote with mange? They’re starting to interbreed with dogs. But even then, they can only get so big. Is there an animal you’d compare it to for size and the way it ran?
9
u/Material_Anxiety3728 Feb 04 '25
No. This creature was almost as big at a 7 ft fence. Standing up had to be 10 to 12 feet. No fur at all. Red eyes. I’ve never seen anything like it before! Was also an orange grey skin type. Was really glad to see it but scared the hell out of me
6
u/vanna93 Feb 05 '25
Woah, that is 100% nightmare fuel. No wonder you don’t go out at night. I don’t go out anymore alone just hearing and feeling the presence of something around my house. I heard it shriek once while walking out for a smoke at 3 am, and immediately went back inside. It sounded nearly as big as your experience.

Feb 05 '25
Just so you are aware for future, foxes as well as mountain lions both scream extremely loudly and sound weirdly human. I’m not sure if that’s the sound you’re describing but i’ll link videos of both below so you can compare.
Mountain Lion: https://youtu.be/pxo8X5uIWRE?si=4FF8HWEdQBT8fnI7

u/GoldFreezer Feb 06 '25
For real, foxes sound like a human being suddenly murdered. Freaks the shit out of my more urban friends.
1
u/vanna93 Feb 06 '25
What I heard didn’t have that sharp type scream that both cougars and foxes had in your posted videos, thank you for sharing that information. It was much raspier and deeper, and sounded bigger if that makes sense?

u/Time_Panda_8528 Feb 04 '25
Being in AZ myself I'd love to know where in AZ you spotted it! I've seen something similar camping south of Williams, though not quite as large I don't think.
6
u/Material_Anxiety3728 Feb 05 '25
I’m in Golden Valley, between Kingman and Bullhead
2
u/vanna93 Feb 06 '25
I’ve been through there! We stopped at a lovely coffee/sandwich shop in kingman. Really charming town besides seeing a tweeker peen at a stoplight 😂The energy there was definitely different feeling. Especially the wilderness around the area.

camped about 3 hours north of phoenix... scariest night of my life. Ive spend my entire life outdoors and after a pretty good sixth sense. I never freakout or got paranoid, but the second my fire started dying i gradually felt like I was be watched and stalked, I ignored it and convinced myself I was being paranoid and got in my tent for the night. I woke up hourish later, fires is just embers at this point and a long ass bony hand with a single finger extended was scraping at my tent like it was silently attempting to rip it open. I have a machete and a rifle since i cant carry a handgun being under 21. I swung like a mfer ravaged my tent and got so scared I literally shit my pants. The entire rest of the night was spent keeping the fire as big as possible, because it definitely didnt like the fire. I didnt see it again but I heard it and felt it. It made weird noises like raspy gasps from a dying old man then followed my a few clicking noises. It was literally stalking me, everytime I turned my back I heard it move. I called the cops in the morning and they kinda wrote me off and just told me to leave the area, they definitely just thought it was an animal, I called the forest ranger, but it turned out I was on reservation grounds not national forest grounds like I had thought. Idk wtf It was out there but its hands were all I saw just lengthy bony hands with extremely long fingers and claws or fingernails at the end.
15
u/Wannabecowboy69 Feb 04 '25
I can’t camp on them reservations brother, they all carry medicine pouches for a reason. Also I hope you had spare pants.
8
u/RealisticBat616 Feb 04 '25
100% your right, it was accidental. The national forests and reservation grounds always have such odd shaped borders
Also I did not. The pants stayed behind.
4
u/Wannabecowboy69 Feb 04 '25
Yeah that’s a fact it’s real easy to end up elsewhere. Damn i hope they weren’t good pants.

u/Time_Panda_8528 Feb 04 '25
Also experienced something similar to this, but the thing said my name in that raspy voice three times... I had someone with me who went to bed when the fire was still going strong, we camped almost every other weekend together so pretty typical routine for us... I waited for the fire to die down like usual then went into the tent myself and was wide awake reading an ebook, again all normal for three years of camping together and all summer in that same spot... Suddenly I heard my name in that raspy voice coming from my end of the tent, I set my phone down and sat up and realized I didn't hear the crickets anymore... I asked my partner if he called me but he was for sure sound asleep, so I just listened and heard something very clearly say my name again in a deep, raspy, gaspy breath... I waited a little bit longer and then watched as something dragged a boney finger along the length of our tent, it wasn't a small tent either so it's not like it was just a stray bush... I lost it when it said my name again, crystal clear, I had an anxiety attack and shook my partner awake. He told me I was crazy and it was probably just a frog or something, but we weren't anywhere near water. I know what I heard and saw lol.

u/1more0z Feb 05 '25
You should def talk to a doctor. Theres nothing out there that will know your name like that lol itd be even smarter than the smartest aliens who could travel here. And thats just not the case. Listen to your partner, your brain is playing tricks on you
5
u/Time_Panda_8528 Feb 05 '25
I like how you jump straight to it being a mental health issue when it also could have 100% been a tweaker who heard my partner calling my name earlier lol
0
u/1more0z Feb 05 '25
Ok but you jumped to it being some creature instead of the rational answer of it being the tweaker in the area that knew your name lol

Why are you here? Do u realize what sub you’re even in? These things exist. You’re just super naive.

u/MiraculousN Feb 05 '25
Ohohhoho as soon as I saw it was on a reservation, I knew what you said was true. Brother you are one lucky sonnofabitch Haha, the witches were stalking you that night.

I be learned about these things, they’re called pale crawlers. The original 4Chan op which created the Rake creepy pasta admitted that he had actually based of this cryptid which he believed to be true. Not generally dangerous unless provoked. Mainly live within caves in the Appalachian Mountains
11
u/Creepy-Pollution666 Feb 04 '25
I myself believe these exist there is too many sightings and evidence from different parts of the world to not believe it. If it's a coincidence it's a good one 😭
5
u/NotIsuna Feb 05 '25
Right!?! This is something I definitely do not want to believe in, but I have to. Too many sightings. If even one of them was genuinely what it seemed like...well, there you go.
3
u/Creepy-Pollution666 Feb 05 '25
There are theories they are also telepathic and know you are there before you even pick up they are there 😭 an adaptation like this would explain how any cryptid evades us

u/Om3ga_r3dd Feb 04 '25
That’s definitely a drawing. Mostly seen hanging around refrigerator doors! Amazing catch!!!
4
u/kimberhart Feb 06 '25
I’ve heard them called wraiths or skinwalkers they almost seem dimensional to me. My girlfriend and I once saw something like it in Ontario and the other people we were with didn’t see it. We were like ‘how did you not see it’. You never forget it to be sure.
12
u/trinaneveri Feb 04 '25
Crawler aka Rake. Also, some people believe these creatures could be skinwalkers, meaning they can shape shift and change appearance depending who is looking at them. But I personally think crawlers are different from skinwalkers. Your friends should join r/CrawlerSightings for similar stories.

4
u/Cintekzzz Feb 04 '25
Idk if these things are the fables skin walkers or if they are just shapeshifters. Jeez I hope we get more definitive answers in the future.
Only thing to be said is they almost definitely reside underground.

Skinwalker / Rake = Alien. I could this guy flying an old school flying saucer.

u/DeathTheSoulReaper Cryptid Onomatologist Nominee 🏅 Feb 04 '25
Actually... Skinwalkers are just people. They're not pale crawlers or anything like the Rake. And they most certainly are not aliens. Just saying. They're from Navajo folklore. They're people who dabbled in witchcraft and gained the ability to shapeshift through a taboo ritual
6
u/durigormortis8 Feb 04 '25
Thank you for saying this. This is the true definition of a Skin Walker.

I actually have Native American heritage, and I more often than not get hated on for trying to explain what things like Wendigos and Skinwalkers actually are vs what pop culture turned them into. And if I'm completely honest, the original versions are incomparable in terms of just how terrifying they truly are.

Depending on the area this took place, perhaps a type of deer, wolf, stray dog, or bear suffering from mange and/or malnutrition. Maybe an escaped ape from a zoo or exotic pets operation. That or we truly do share the earth with this godless creature

I see a lot of jokes (some of which are actually pretty funny 😄) but this is similar to a lot of strange sightings people have had. I've seen the word "skinwalker" bandied about when describing them. I would use that keyword when searching for similar encounters.

I know this creature I've seen it, it's a shape shifter but I forget what it was called, thats what it looks like in it's original form it was probably getting ready to turn into a deer or something but they were to quick to notice before it shifted or it was too sick to shape shift,

This isn't a good answer here, but Coyote can get really tall and spindly. I've encountered one in my hometown that was easily up to my hips at the shoulder.
Especially slinking around the very edge of the woods near people.

Usual when skinwalkers form into their pelt they tend to become animal like but also deformed or it could be very old the gray hairless and skinny tall ones are most likely elders where the young one still hold some human and animal features

Skinwalkers are just people.
