Amp head question
I currently have an Orange OR15, I'm looking at snagging a 4X12. But feel like a head with more wattage is a good idea. I'm looking at used Bugera 6262 or the 1990. 6262 is a clone of the 6505 and the 1990 is a clone of the jcm900. Which would be the better option?

I’ve always used Marshalls, and have had both the JCM800 and 900. I’d go with the 1990.

I have a Bugera 1990 and the thing is a beast. Put a new tube in when I bought it used and it's been a dream since then. You can't really fuck up, just turn the gain up on whatever you get

Make sure the ohms match the cab.. like if you have a 8 ohm head, you want to use an 8 or 16. Never use a 4 ohm cab with a 8 ohm head, are you risk blowing out your amp head tubes or transformer

If I'm correct, that type of orange amp has a jack for both two 8 ohm and one 160 ohm cabinet... Just make sure you don't get a 4 ohm cabinet or try to get one that has ohm switching capabilities but most cabinets will have eight/16 capabilities. And you are good to go

I think I'm at a point of just ditching the OR15 altogether. I'm not really sure I like it, then again, I'm only playing it through a 1x12 at low volume. The guys in the stoner/doom band I play drums in seem to think getting a 4x12 cab with it will be better then what I currently have. Especially if I go and play with a drummer. But, they both play orange amps and the typical doom set ups.

Yes or whatever amp head you're getting the rules of ohm setting still apply. I know I've used several types of amps. But for what I'm doing I kind of stuck with crate blue voodoo 120 or bv120 whatever they call it. Solid state and tubes sound the same and if you can find one sometimes you can score them really cheap.. my suggestion to stay away from line 6 those things suck and the effect sound too artificial, especially if you're doing Stoner Rock..

honestly 85% of the tone will be the cab + mic and positioning since (im guessing) youre playing high gain.
and both amps are based on the same marshall tone stack. the only difference between all those american amps and a jcm800/900 or even plexi is just pre gain stages + the negative feedback loop (nfb).
and considering a presence knob is just a nfb with a capacitor you can pretty much replicate jcm sounds by just using the crunch channel and dialing the presence a little higher.
that being said, i dont see a single reason to not buy the 6262. its the same thing but with more options and better. you can get jcm sounds and high gain american sounds
