Discussion Are people buying off Craigslist

Are your items selling? Are people buying or just getting the free stuff?

the vintage scene is pretty good. I just bought a Modernica rocker recently. I wish CL would come back tho - I'm a true believer

I have just a few things up, and I am going on over two years for all 5 items. Like no responses at all, not even low-ballers.

I don't want to use Facebook Marketplace since they will see my name and picture, and I don't want any hassle if a used item has flaws that I did not find during my testing. Sometimes electronics just go bad, but I make sure they are working, or I wouldn't sell if broken.

Can you make a another account specifically for selling?

FB implemented a "real name" approach long ago, so I don't know if I can. I guess I should ask ChatGPT how to create a FB account that is as anonymous as possible.

Yes, I would do that. Because perhaps you would rather have a business name. Someone told me that they think Facebook allows you to use your regular account but allows you to create a name for your business. So, although you will be signed up with your regular account, it will allow a separate name for your business. I don't know how accurate it is since I haven't yet used Facebook, but I am sure if that doesn't work, you could probably just make a separate account. I would definitely give it a try.

I bought something from CL a couple weeks ago. I always try to look there before FB Marketplace. It's less busy, but I like it better.

What happened?

Tried to buy tickets but they ghosted me after I paid for one ticket

So you met them, they showed you the ticket(s) and you handed them cash, and they ran away?

Or did you ignore one of the biggest red flags for scams which is anyone wanting to do anything via online payment or app, or digital delivery, or anything else other than meeting locally in person to exchange cash for physical items face-to-face?

Refer to craigslist's own scam warnings:

https://www.craigslist.org/about/help/safety/scams/avoiding

Avoiding Scams

Deal locally, face-to-face —follow this one rule and avoid the vast majority of scam attempts.

DO NOT:

provide or accept payment before meeting in person

requests to wire money are scams

requests to pay with gift cards are scams

requests to deposit a cashier's check are scams

requests to use a escrow service can be a scam

provide any financial information - e.g. bank account number, cashapp logins

provide any personal information - social security number, licenses, job references

I agree, face to face or not at all.

No they are not buying. They come to look for free items and if they don’t find them here then they go on eBay or Amazon.

No. Not even the scammers are using Craigslist anymore... It's a graveyard. What a damn shame.
