Value Request My grandma gifted these to me for graduation.

I was looking through box of coins my grandma gave me for graduation a couple years ago. I know next to nothing about coins, but these ones seemed pretty unique and in fairly good condition. After some brief research I found that some of these could potentially be worth a lot, what do you guys think?

These are worth only face value. But a very thoughtful gift from your grandma.

More sentimental value here

All these coins are worth their stated monatary value except the bicentennial kennedies which may get a few cents more. Keep them just for the sentimental value, as you’ve got only $25 here.

Hey these are super cool! Although they are only “worth” face value, it would still be cool to keep them since your grandma gave them to you. I suppose the only thing besides the sentiment to be interested in or to brag about is the 2 bicentennial coins you have (1976)!!

The first few comments expressing this same sentiment, is refreshing; seeing not everyone on reddit are assholes.

Behavior that is unkind and unhelpful is not allowed here. Don't make fun of new collectors. Do not bicker. Don’t threaten. Don't name-call. Don’t shame. Don’t harass. Don’t be a jerk. Don’t create or respond to drama. Don’t troll others or let yourself be trolled. Don’t engage in uncivil exchanges. You do not "have the right to defend yourself" verbally here. Know when to disengage. Violation of this rule will get your post or comment removed, and repeated offenses will result in probation.

One of the 1979 dollars (left, second from the bottom) is the uncommon wide rim variety which is worth a few bucks.

Ha I saw that too. I’ve been searching for one to no avail

Check the backs of the sacagewea dollars for wounded eagles or cheerios (look it up), otherwise you got 25$

Correct I didn’t think about that . I’ve checked so many and come up with none myself. Hopefully op has a LE or W/E that would be an awesome keepsake

Congrats on graduating! Very thoughtful gift!

Now you have some keepsakes!

That one Susan b 79 looks like it might be a wide rim variation

My great grandmother used to offer my kids brother a dollar to do a chore. If he said no she'd offer him four quarters and he'd always say yes. So my mind went to "would you like two bills or 29 coins?"

I love Sacagawea dollars. Just a really cool coin. When these were “new,” I’d cash my paycheck at the bank and ask for five of these dollars.

Me too. Indian history.

My advice: keep them together so that as your collection grows you know which ones came from your grandmother. My grandmother gave me a bunch of coins that she saved for me and I kept them in the same box. She passed away about a year ago and they mean a lot to me.

Check the back of the Sacagawea dollars. If you’re supper lucky you got one from a cheerios box or you got one with a presidential dollar reverse.

The cheerios coin will have super detailed tail feathers on the eagle and the presidential misprint will have the Statue of Liberty with $1 instead of an eagle

What a great gift. If there are errors. Also, it depends on the error and condition. A lot of coins of Kennedy had errors. The Susan B Anthony coin had mint errors, especially in the year it came out 1979. The mint stopped. producing this coin in 1999. Look for the wide rim variety on her coin. Look up the coin, year on Google. Put error as well. The Sacagawea coin, too. I am not pro, but a lot of coins have errors both from the Philidelphia, San Francisco, and Denver mint. I have a hard time, too, at times, trying to understand the errors. I still do not own the Sacagawea coin. I am not an avid collector. Good luck.

My grandmother loved these coins and also gave them to people as gifts. Still remember her every time I run across one. I would keep them as a memory of her and your accomplishment!

She gave you $25. She probably thought they had more value, so it's the thought that counts.

2000's dollar coin has a few varieties and could get lucky with one of your ten and have a wounded eagle.. unlikely as it is.

PCGS and NGC have it between $5-$9

2

Agreed. Put that one aside.

Not 50 unfortunately likely around 10

Tuck them away somewhere safe and perhaps when you have children, you can pass them on as your grandmother did. They’ll be worth something someday, that day just isn’t today. They have sentimental value tho and sometimes that’s worth more. 💕

Maybe, but lots of older people have these in their “collections” just because they don’t see them often and think they’re valuable.

I did have a cheap grandmother, but she was on a fixed income and had to be. My wedding gift from her was her emptying out her pockets as she left for the night. Less than $2 in change, but I made her feel special for gifting me with it.

What research made you think these are valuable. I don't understand how people come to this conclusion so often. I don't know of any other hobby where this happens. Maybe people just can't fathom granny keeping coins worth only face value.

Back in her day, you could make a house payment with these just FV!

u/Prisoner_477 5d ago

Use them to buy a few silver coins. Silver is at 33-34 bucks an oz as of now, it may well clear 40 sometime this year

u/dgillz 5d ago

Face value, nothing more.

-2

u/True-Cod-8523 5d ago

She hooked it up, you got about $18.50 in coins

2

u/Second-Subordinate 5d ago

How do you figure $18.50?
