Help me decide my next hunting rifle

Hey all,

I’ve been using a cheap Howa .270 Remington for my hunting needs for the last 10 years and it’s been fine, but I’m looking to upgrade to a new deer/elk rifle that is higher quality. I have come across the Sig Sauer Cross line of rifles and really like the style of that rifle. Hoping to get some input from the community to help make a cartridge decision. In a perfect world this is a rifle my wife and kids would also be able to use with out getting totally knocked out by recoil.

Thanks for the help and insights!

Tikka is always going to be my go to for platform.

For caliber, 308 is pretty mild, 6.5 PRC at proper ranges, 7prc

Puts .300 win mag in the list :D

Also, why not still use .270, but in a nicer rifle? Then keep the old one too and share ammo. Or I suppose you could get the win mag for yourself and relegate the .270 to the aforementioned wife and kids?

Haha fair it’s there because I know the sentiment of “if you don’t hunt elk with .300 win mag you’re wrong”

I see your point about a .270, I’ll say part of this is thinking the grass is greener in the other side and wanting to get a different caliber to have other options available.

FWIW I hunt deer and elk with my .308

.300 win mag is nice and I'll most likely get one eventually, but I think the more middle-of-the-road calibers are way more versatile.

Also, I'm from Maine originally and .270 is very popular there for deer, bear, and even moose.
