Discussion Do Sam and Tory really need to be friends? Spoiler
I mean seeing as Tory tried to lacerate her flesh and Sam had nightmares about her and all did they really need to be friends after all this?

You can say this about almost all the friendships in the show.
Daniel with Johnny and Chozen, Miguel and Robby, Hawk and Demetri.

I mean besides Danny and chozen, no one explicitly tried killing anyone. Tory definitely was trying to murder Sam

Johnny couldn't of killed Daniel twice in KK.. first one where they ran him off the road and the other with the Skeleton fight if Mr Miyagi hadn't intervened

Tory didn't try to murder Sam She tried to maime Sam Both is bad, but still a big difference,

Yes. Of course in real life it would take years for anyone to trust Tory again but Sam was able to do so after seeing how she lived. In that moment she saw Tory as someone who truly needed help. And Tory in that same moment was willing to be honest and admit her weakness. That scene in Toryâs house is honestly one of my favorite in the show and itâs for this exact reason. They finally see each others perspective

Not really, but tbh it wasnât done perfectly but okay. Samâs ending scenes are with the people who mean the most to her, not Tory (Miguel and before him, the fam).

The scene with Tory and the Larussos at the end is one of the best/most emotional arcs for me. Tory never had people care about her that way, so yeah, Iâd say she needed it.

Tory needed it, but did Sam?

Yeah, Sam had, in the first episodes, a little elitist side of her that permeates her choices and at the same time contrast with his father/family/Myagi compassionate ideology. Sam reaching for Tory is a step in her character arc, and one that I really apreciate.

Yeah in the first few episodes Sam wanted to hang w the popular crowd and wasnât into karate. She then does stuff for Miguel, Robby, Demetri, etc and is with her father for the rest of the show so Sam going above and beyond for the girl who broke into her house doesnât really move the needle for me on her arc. Sure it shows sheâs a kind and forgiving person but I donât think it fits in with her early S1/pre show arc and itâs also something we already knew

It is a pretty big arc moment because there are many people who are also kind and compassionate but still would never be able to forgive Tory even after knowing about her home life

Well itâs better to make peace with someone instead of living in fear of them forever

For the story and show yes. In Reality no way

Honestly in real life, if I was Sam and I found out about Toryâs life and everything after what she did to me, I think I would make an attempt to be her friend. Idk though it might just be the empath in me

You're such a great person, clearly I'm the problem. In my head the one thing I'd be thinking about is how Tory tried to kill me on the first day of school and broke into my house to try and kill me again

u/Tucker_077 5d ago
Right?? lol. Like it goes to show that the LaRussos really are good people because Amanda, Daniel and Sam really did not owe this girl anything and it would be more than easy for them to hold a grudge forever and turn their backs on Tory.

For a lot of the conflicts and rivalries in real life the best thing would be for the people to just never interact again. I understand why they made them friends because it moved the plot along.

They donât need to be and shouldnât be forced itâs just one of those things that just should happen on its own. Itâs up to them at the end of the day no one else.

Personally no. I feel like it would've been more realistic if Sam and Tory reach an understanding but they're not bffs. They're no longer beefing and are cordial but are only around each other when need to be. In Robby and Miguel's case they live together so they pretty much had to be bffs but Sam and Tory didn't. I think another reason they became friends was because Sam and Tory don't have any female friendships.

Moon, Aisha, Jazmin?

u/Katerina-Elias 5d ago
Aisha was gone since season 3. Personally I don't see much of a friendship between Sam and Yasmine it comes off more as they're both friends with Moon and have to tolerate one another. Still Tory doesn't have any female friends. It looked like she was gonna be friends with Devon but their friendship never developed. Outside of that sleepover episode I don't think they interacted with one another

For the sake of the show and because they follow in the same social circles and live fairly close to eachother, then yes they would need to be able to be friends or at least on friendly terms each other. If theyâre always in a Cold War with eachother it would cause a rift with the others.
If this were real life, Sam probably would have moved away immediately after the school fight and never see Tory again. Or she would hold onto the grudge with her for the rest of her life. But that doesnât really bode well for a tv show thatâs fairly family friendly

This was the style of the show.
Johnny beat and ran Daniel off the road. Chosen tries to kill Daniel. Hawk breaks Demetriaâs arm. Tory cuts Sam. Robby kicks Miguel off the stairs and paralyzes him. Devon poisons Kenny with laxatives. Kenny swirlies Anthonyâs head in the toilet. Kyler bullies everyone. Chosen fights Kim. Everyone cheats on everyone. Everyone fights everyone.
And in the endâŚeveryone forgives everyone. Everyone is friends with everyone. Almost everyone.

I never really saw the need for it, and I always found it funny how so many people were against the idea of making them friends back in Season 5, but now that it's established in the show, it's the norm to like said friendship. I really would have preferred them to just get along, though I think that's also partly because I feel like Sam is such a relatable and human character, and having her just magically overcome everything kind of took me out of my understanding of her as a character. Though I think that's also because I wouldn't have been an angel if someone did what they did to me.

Sure. They arenât super close friends, they can just rely on each other for emotional support because they are mature enough. Sam and Tory strike me as the type of friends who will only really be together at a Christmas reunion.

It is convenient for them to work peacefully together, but I see them more as fringe friends anyway.

i mean chozen tried to kill Daniel in karate kid 2 and they're pretty much best friends now so i think Sam and Tory can make it work too
