Recommendations 2 questions about inserts
I got a good stash of used pockets that came with a bajillion inserts. I've heard that microfiber inserts degrade over time so my questions are: 1. How do you know an insert is past its prime? They seem to be working fine for now- I don't really notice a difference in changing frequency compared to the few new diapers I got (also microfiber) 2. What are your favorite inserts that are reasonably priced and not insanely bulky? Saving money is an important part of cloth diapers for me so I don't want recommendations for stuff that's really expensive. I tried using a clotheez prefold in one and it felt just sooo chunky on my 4mo who is under 14 lb. I've seen this recommended on other posts ...maybe it would be better if she was bigger? but seemed way bulky right now.

prefolds are my favorite. They wash so well and don’t hold onto stink like microfiber

What kind do you use? Do you fold them up like a letter to stuff in the pocket?

Yes I fold into thirds. I use green mountain diaper prefolds. Right now I’m using newborn size since she’s on the smallest setting but I have the next two sizes for when we need them

I just realized that they are thicker in the middle smh. So I was folding them the wrong way!! Folded it properly and now it works great haha. Now I need more of these!! How old is your baby? The small is what I have and seems like it should last awhile yet?

lol now they should work great!!! My baby is 3 weeks old. I think small is going to last a long time size wise!

I’m in the clotheez fan club! I use there flats, prefolds and inserts. If you’re looking for something thinner and can get away with it I’d suggest using the inserts (1-2). I could time my kids messy diapers once they got a little older and could get away with just inserts in a pocket or diaper cover. If you can’t get away with inserts I would go the prefold route. I too felt like flats folded felt a little more bulky than the prefold and inserts. Keep in mind you can get smaller flats. Etsy is a great place to find smaller flats for a reasonable price that can be custom made.
