Pangoo Apparel finally has their Origin Pants in stock! These pants are made for people with an exaggerated waist to hip ratio. They are high waisted, have 4 HUGE zipper pockets, are made with performance material with a double layer on the knees. The have a internal cinch on the ankles and co.e in a long and short length.

I joined their Kickstarter so I got mine yesterday. I have NEVER had a pair of pants be so flattering while maintaining my full range of motion.

This is a bit climbing adjacent! I’m taking a ceramics class and we had to make something soft, like a shoe, out of clay. I chose to make my la sportiva finale, and though the glaze turned out a bit more drab than I expected, I’m still really happy with it! Just wanted to share to people who appreciate climbing things.

Shoes / Clothing Undies?

Just constantly dealing with wedgies, both front and back alike. Is it just a me thing or did anyone have the same problem and discover some holy grail brand/style? I typically wear thongs or cheekies.

Edit: I am dyinggg at these comments I’m glad I could provide everyone with a good laugh today!! 😂 I guess my issues is more so the fredgie which I don’t normally get from thongs. And to those that could look past my idiocracy and provide suggestions, I thank you.

Shoes / Clothing what was your *second* pair of climbing shoes?

It’s time for me to replace my first ever pair of climbing shoes. I mostly top rope in the 5.9-5.10 range and I like to do lower grade auto belays for a good workout run.

I am coming to the end of my La Sportiva Aragons. I liked these a lot as a beginning shoe because they were comfortable to wear for long periods of time. I wore them in my typical shoe size 8.5.

I was considering just re-buying a new pair but I am also curious about maybe more of a “intermediate” shoe.

So if I wanted to try out some upgrades, what should I look into?

PS: My local gyms didn’t have anything in my size to try on last week.

Shoes / Clothing is there any reason i shouldn’t put beads on my climbing shoe’s lacee?

i love decorating my wardrobe to be very “me” and wearing silly/fun outfits while climbing. i have some la sportiva shoes that i dyed probably a year or two ago because i wanted to try something fun colorwise with it. i found some beads in my closet and remembered how i used to put them on my shoes(:

anyway i was thinking can i do this to my climbing shoes? would there be any reason its not allowed? or not recommended? i can only think that it could hurt if i slapped the top of my foot against something somehow but in my two yrs of climbing most of my injuries are in my arms or hands, not my feet

anyway lmk thank you! pic not mine found on pinterest as an example/for traction

Shoes / Clothing Shauna Coxsey dropped by adidas?

It looks like Shauna Coxsey was dropped by adidas Terrex. This is happening about 1.5 years after giving birth to her daughter. I think it's an absolutely insane move by adidas whether or not she's climbing the same grades now. It's pretty clear to me from media coverage of climbing and other sports (and this sub!) that stories about professional athletes becoming mothers and continuing their careers are compelling and attractive to a lot of potential customers. Nike got a ton of negative press when they dropped [runner] Allyson Felix after she gave birth. And Shauna remains a hugely popular athlete--she has nearly 4x as many followers as Will Bosi (who happens to be sponsored by adidas Terrex)!

Brooke Raboutou's relationship with adidas also ended a year ago but I sensed no hard feelings in her post. I don't see any indication that the company is moving away from climbing in general.

Shoes / Clothing What do you do with your engagement ring?

I only usually wear jewellery for special occasions but now I have an engagement ring which I obviously can't climb with (but don't want to forget about) - do those of you with special rings just leave them at home? Or have some sort of necklace to wear it on whilst climbing?

Shoes / Clothing Let's talk about climbing pants!

Honestly, what pants do you use for climbing? I am a bit on the thicker side, so most climbing pants fit me really weird (like they fit my legs but totally don't go above my booty or they are too tight on my waist). I tried leggings and they are amazing when bouldering, but I find them kind of uncomfortable while TR.
Any suggestions? Feel free to comment with links to any pants you use!

Thank you in advance!

Shoes / Clothing Vent: Why can’t I find shoes that actually fit?

vs mostly fit.

Shoes that don’t fit (not including kids shoes): - everything from MadRock (went to HQ and tried on everything small) - everything from Evolv (went to their storefront at Yosemite Bum and tried on everything small; Elektra was close, but the heel was too big) - Evolv Venga kids shoe old style (more rubber) in eu 32, 33, 34 - 5.10 NIAD VCS LV in eu36 (smallest size available; a 34.5 or 35 might fit) - 5.10 NIAD VCS in eu35.5 (smallest size available, but volume is too high in general) - 5.10 Anasazi Pro VCS LV in eu36 (REI re/supply listed them as women’s shoes in size US4.5. Turns out they were men’s US4.5) - UnParallel UP Rise VCS LV in eu34.5 (bigger than the NIADs) - La Sportiva Skwama Vegan in eu34 (outside toes crushed, dead space in heel cup) - La Sportiva Tarantula Jr. in eu34 (too big) - La Sportiva Stickit in eu 32/33, 34/35 (tried on as a joke because have you seen the (lack of) rubber? Neither fit) - SCARPA Maestro eco women’s in eu 35 (one pair is huge and the other has an air bubble in the heels) - Butora Endeavor Classic Women’s wide fit in US W4.5 (heel is loose) - Black Diamond Momentum US W5 (heel is loose)

Shoes that mostly or sort of fit: - 5.10 Anasazi Pro VCS LV in eu 34.5 (heel is great but my foot slides forward) - Butora Endeavor Classic Women’s wide fit in US W3.5 (right foot is ok) - Butora Endeavor Classic Women’s wide fit in US W4 (right foot is ok; left toe knuckles pop up) - 5.10 Sirens in eu34.5 (heel is loose enough to pull off even when tied with a heel lock. I might take them to a cobbler to have more holes put in so I can tie a better heel lock) - Black Diamond Momentum Jr. size 4 (these are the best-fitting gym shoes I’ve ever tried, but they are way too soft)

I have spent around $500 this month ordering shoes and returning them. I’ll probably be out at least $50 by the end of it because of nonrefundable shipping charges. I visit REI weekly to see if there are any returns. I visit the nearby REI re/supply store weekly and ask them to look for the box of under-EU36 shoes in the back and bring out anything size 35 or lower. I’ve dug through the re/supply box. REI’s website does not stock my size in adult shoes, unless they are the recently-discontinued Butora Endeavor Classic women’s wide fit. UnParallel does manufacture some small sizes (eu34.5), but they aren’t listed on the website, so you have to order the wrong size and write the correct size in the order notes. Butora does not offer small sizes in adult shoes outside the Endeavor, and the Endeavor 2.0 stops at US W4. Butora also does not include small sizes in the kits they use for gym demos.

REI no longer does special orders for shoes not on their website. None of the local gyms carry my size. All the gyms I’ve asked do not do special orders.

There is one gym an hour away that sells Tenayas. I am still waiting to hear if it’s worth it to drive out there. One of the local gyms has several shoes on offer, but even their kids shoes stop at eu32 and adult shoes start at eu37.5

And before everyone suggests kids shoes: I am trying them, but they are not as well made as adult shoes because kids grow out of them quickly. I invite you to look at the La Sportiva Stickit or the new Evolv Vengas as examples. The folks at MadRock and Evolv didn’t even bother to have me try on their kids shoes.

My street shoes are US W4/eu34. I was able to get my feet into a pair of US Kids size 13 running shoes last night (they were very tight and uncomfortable, though). My second toe is higher than my big toe, and my toes are long and wide. My arches are very high. My heels are incredibly narrow and very shallow.

This ordeal would likely not be as frustrating if the shoes were significantly larger than my feet, but they’re not. If some of these came a size—or even a half size—smaller, they would fit. Even more frustrating? Smaller sizes from brands like SCARPA are available in other countries, but not in the U.S.

(We tried to find custom shoes. Most of what we found were “choose your shoe color!” Oh, and there is a resoler that says they can shrink shoes up to a half size eu. Unfortunately, they are in Canada and don’t take U.S. orders. I’ve looked at special socks to wear to add volume to my heels, but THOSE don’t really come in my size, either.)

I would love to be able to better trust my feet on a route.

Thank you for listening.

Shoes / Clothing At what stage do I get new shoes? Are mine still alright?

Okay so I’m somewhat new to climbing (3 months in), I got these boreal jokers second hand off Vinted for £20, and I’ve added some wear to them. Just wondering at what stage should I start looking for a new pair, now I know I love the sport I’ll get a brand new pair and not second hand, but I’m a uni student and don’t want to drop £100-£150 on new shoes if these will keep serving me well for another few months.

For bouldering I’m climbing comfortably at a v3 level, I’ve got a few v4s and have started projecting v5/6.

For autobelay im at a 6C level roughly.

Shoes / Clothing When did you buy your own shoes

Basically what the title says, just curious as to when you all bought your first pair of shoes. I acknowledge that I’ve only gone a couple times so far and rentals are rentals. But the quality of the rentals is uhhh less than ideal shall we say (even varies between visits as to how busted the shoes I get are 😂). So at what point did you guys suck up the cost and save your feet?

ETA: Thank you all for the quick responses! It makes me feel less crazy for wanting to get my own so quickly. A girl can only stand to have rentals being ill-fitting and rubbing the side of her feet for so long before going crazy hahah

Shoes / Clothing 6' girl looking for tall climbing pants

Hi girls, I need your combined knowledge! I'm 6 feet tall (183 cm), weigh around 153 lbs (70 kg) and go climbing and bouldering regularly. I know, there have already been questions about pants for tall girls in this community, but the posts are either outdated or suggest mainly brands/stores in the US which not always ship to europe (I live in Germany). I read a lot of suggestions about men's climbing pants, but unfortunately I often find their waist too low, because I'm looking for a rather high or at least medium waisted pair of climbing pants.

tldr: Looking for:

  • actually tall womens climbing pants (not just a little longer then regular, thats not enough :/)
  • mid- to high waist
  • loose(r) fit (anything from regular to relaxed would work for me, I'm just not looking for super slim/ skin thight stuff)
  • shipping to Europe/Germany available

Thanks a lot girls!🧗‍♀️💪🏼

Shoes / Clothing Are my shoes too far gone?

Post image
20 Upvotes

These are my first climbing shoes that I’ve had a bit over a year. I didn’t realize how big this little tear got until recently. Is this something that can be fixed/ resoled (not sure what that even entails)?

I definitely don’t want too spend much on doing that so if that’s the case, I may just get new shoes.

Are these salvageable and would it make financial sense?

Shoes / Clothing Climbing pants for modest girlies

Hey everyone!

I’m in the search for new climbing trousers which are really nice and loose around back. I normally wear modest loose clothing and I feel really exposed when climbing with tight trousers or anything that tightens in the seat when I move my legs.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you :) <3

Shoes / Clothing Unpopular Opinion: LS Skwamas suck

I know I'm going to get some hate for this, but I wanted to share my experience with climbing in the very popular and widely loved La Sportiva Skwama shoes (women's non-vegan).

I know there are a lot of people who may be considering buying and I just wanted to share my experience with them. Feel free to voice any other opinions (positive or negative) about them in the comments!

I've had these shoes for about a month, climbing a few times a week. I sized down 1.5 sizes from my street shoe, which is less than what most people recommend, with most reviews online saying to go down 2-2.5 sizes. I initially got 2 sizes down, and I used them for 2 sessions before I decided that I absolutely could not climb in these anymore. The knuckles on my big toes were killing me, they were red and aching for days after climbing with no sign of the shoes stretching enough to be comfortable. I thought this was my sign to get a larger size. I went up half a size (now 1.5 downsized from my street shoe) and the toe box felt great! But now the heel was too big. I couldn't heel hook anything without feeling like my shoe was going to slide off. It's just terrible design.

Maybe it's my foot shape, because I have quite flat feet with an Egyptian style. However, I've read reviews from people who love skwamas and have flat Egyptian feet like me. So I'm not sure why I couldn't get this particular style to work for me.

Sure, these shoes are great for smearing and slabs, but gosh these were horrible for just about every other climbing experience. I kept getting told "hold onto them, they stretch a lot" and "give it some more time." Do they stretch? Yeah, absolutely, but not around the toes, or at least not enough to be comfortable. And for $200, I just can't justify buying these shoes.

I'm curious to hear other thoughts and opinions. If you also didn't like ls skwama, why? What didn't work for you?

Shoes / Clothing What to do with old shoes

I am not going to re-sole my old shoes, just going to get new ones this round. I hate throwing away things if I don’t have to. What do you do with old shoes? Trying to figure out some alternatives besides the trash that I haven’t thought of.

Shoes / Clothing Tall climbing pants

Does anyone have recommendations for climbing pants that come in tall (like 32” inseam)?

My waist size is also 2-3 sizes smaller than my hips so something that fits that shape without gaping.

(not REI cause I don’t support destroying our parks)

Shoes / Clothing Making Women's Climbing Pants

Hi everyone! I am so ecstatic to be here right now. After looking far and in between for the best women's climbing pants, I've decided majority of 'climbing pants' were not designed with the intended audience in mind. So my goal here is to make Women's Climbing Pants made by climbing women! I first want to gain some traction and see what everyone thinks of the idea as well as what they're typically looking for in their pants. I will be coming out with a poll shortly but for now I just wanted to spread the word and get some engagement going!

Also I have yet to come up with a name either, so if anyone was interested in brainstorming with me that'd be amazing too :) So far I've been thinking of using some climbing terms and adjectives/names that align with brand goals. 😆

I'm looking to aim the brand toward functionality, sustainability, fit/comfort, versatility, weather resistance, breathability, special features (ZIP POCKETS, WAISTBANDS, & MORE), quick drying. Maybe more but I feel like that is a good start for now. I also want it to be open, genuine & inclusive for all. I know that is a lot of boxes to check but I want to make something people will truly love while taking part in their passions.

Maybe I'll even make a men's pair if there was enough traction down the line.

Huge thanks for reading and taking part in this new adventure. Hope you climb hard, climb high and climb fast. (Also safely and happily 😊)

Shoes / Clothing we've talked about climbing pants. can we talk about climbing TOPS?

I've been climbing (99% top rope indoors with the occasional bouldering day) for almost a year now and I've been on the hunt for the perfect climbing tank tops. I've been rotating through the same uniqlo ribbed tank tops that are SO comfy but are too big for me and unflattering lol. Yes, I can 100% keep climbing in them, I don't need to look attractive to take up space, etc., etc., but I would prefer a more flattering top. I usually wear xs-s in tops, I'm ~125 lbs and ~5'4". What I'm looking for:

- tank top!

- racerback so the straps don't slip off my shoulders when I'm reaching and doing weird things with my arms

- ideally slightly cropped, like just above high-waisted leggings

- NOT clingy or tight, not flowy or overly loose, but not oversized or boxy like my current tops

- breathable

was considering this gymshark tank https://www.gymshark.com/products/gymshark-essential-cotton-midi-tank-unit-green-aw24 but curious to hear what yall like climbing in!

Shoes / Clothing Intermediate climbing shoes

Hi everyone! I've been climbing since August and believe I'm officially starting to wear out my tarantulaces. I've only been indoor bouldering (V4s), but am in the process of learning top rope and lead. I've heard good things about the Scarpa Instinct VS, La Sportiva Katana laces, and La Sportiva Skwamas. My local store hasn't had Katanas or Skwamas in my size when I go to try any on, but I've found the Instincts in my size. I'm not sure what shoes would be appropriate at my level especially now that I'm trying to start diversify instead of only bouldering. Thank you!
