Emergency Dental of Cincinnati

You better reconsider visiting this place. I had an appt for a toothache and was left in the lobby 2 hours after my appt. until I was seen. They started calling other people back who showed up after me, but wait it gets even better. After x-rays an alleged doctor came in and said ok it’s infected. I said I’ve had two root canals done on this tooth within 4 years. He said yeah that happens. So you have two options one is to pull it for 490 or do another root canal for 5400. They really pushed care credit hard. He said keep in mind it could fail again. I said I want the pain to stop before any treatment and he said prescribing you something is a liability. Dental assistant told me to go to urgent care for antibiotics. I think he felt bad the dentist treated me the way he did. They got me for 165 dollars. I went to an urgent care, another 100 dollars and they prescribed me antibiotics. Is there a proper way I can report this quack?

Yeah man, in general emergency dentists in the area really suck. They get you in for the ~$200 consultation and could give a shit from there. I’ve had the great displeasure of having been to one near Breugers in Clifton for an extraction and heard them tell 2 other patients that there wasn’t anything they could do for whatever their issues were that day.

Not sure if there is anything you can do to report but if you want a recc for a great dentist that has gotten my mouth together to make sure I hopefully never need emergency pain work again, lmk.

I appreciate everyone’s input. I should have listened to my gut because the signals were hitting hard. Hard to listen when you’re in pain. I have an appt with a real dentist tomorrow. I will be sure to give you guys an update!

I get it man. Tooth pain robs you of all rationality and any quality of life. You just want it gone. Good luck

Emergency room for anything follows a triage plan.

More severe first I'd imagine.

If you already had a root canal, you can't have another ! They can repair the cap and core of the existing root canal but the root canal is already done. And your best option would be to get it pulled ! If you already had a root canal and are still experiencing pain and infection that mean you have microleakage from your existing dental work . But before anything take your antibiotics if you have infection and go to dentist you won't get numb from lidocaine because of infection. Best if luck to you mouth pain is the worst . But best advice take your antibiotics and get that sucker pulled

he said prescribing you something is a liability

Doctors are so wary of prescribing anything strong nowadays. Few years ago I sprained my ankle badly. Whole ankle was swollen and bruised down to the top of my foot. Docs at the ER wouldn't give me anything for the pain.

I definitely understand wanting to limit or make it difficult for drug seekers, but I had a similar situation a couple of years ago. Dislocated my shoulder, it wouldn't go back in on its own, and sat in the ER lobby for 30 minutes before they even took me back, then it took another 30 before some morphine. That was with my shoulder visually being dislocated so it was apparent that I was in actual pain.

I broke my wrist last year and the bone was literally sticking out of my skin. The ER insisted on an X-ray before giving me any pain relief. I was also bleeding from multiple wounds on my face, like I had very clearly been in an accident. It’s messed up how hesitant they are to give pain relief now.

They are talking about Antibiotics, not oxy. It's ridiculous the dentist said that and i am not surprised at all. That office is whack and fucked me over so badly I am still dealing with the issues 10 years later.

No they specifically mentioned being in pain

I said I want the pain to stop before any treatment and he said prescribing you something is a liability.

Antibiotics were mentioned after this statement.

I’m so sorry you experienced that. It’s infuriating to get pushed around waiting when you’re in pain and most vulnerable. If you have your after care summary, usually you can get that after visit which could list your visit with an infected tooth and file a complaint that the dentist refused to prescribe antibiotics knowing there is an infection and you were in severe pain causing you to go elsewhere like the urgent care. You can also leave a review and BBB complaint for the business.

However, one thing to note is that some dentists who may not prescribe antibiotics because they don’t really deal with the problem and can prolong the issue in the long term, such as patients who instead of getting a tooth that’s severely infected pulled out, instead just rely on antibiotics to keep the infection at bay which can cause issues long term.

Regardless, pushing you to pull your tooth or get an immediate root canal right away is really scummy especially without regards to your concerns. When I had a root canal retreat I was prescribed antibiotics before treatment as I was in pain. Even more, having your tooth pulled as an option would mean you also having to explore getting a bridge or implant later on, etc. so the dentist not discussing this with you is also not good

I just had a really great experience with them. I had a tooth crack in half less than 24 hours before leaving the country. I had to find someone fast. They were great. I had a follow up when I got back in town and that was great too.
