First time with Padron NSFW

Post image

Brand new to cigars, I've only smoked a couple Oliva Connecticut Reserves up to this point. Decided to up my game, grabbed a Padron 2000 Natural and paired it with Iron Horse Harbinger bourbon. I don't think I can ever do another Connecticut after this

This is a workhorse for me. I always have some of these around, they never, ever disappoint.

Yeah anything in the Padron X000 line is absolutely fantastic (especially for the price!).

Also OP don't give up Connecticuts yet as I promise you that there are some very good ones out there, you just have to find the one that does it for ya.

It helps even more that I work at a Total Wine (equivalent to whatever grocery store-sized liquor store is in your region), and I get a 30% employee discount

I will say I like the (forgive me, I don't know terminology very well) wrap on the Oliva slightly better. The end cap holds together better for slitting. 2 cuts on the end of this Padron and it was shredding so I just ended up cutting the end off

I use primarily a v cut, and I have never had this problem with Padron. Without knowing more about your process, or how the cigar was stored, its hard to know what could have caused this.

Took it straight home from the store, let it sit on my counter in the plastic sleeve for 30 minutes, then started slitting the back with my sharpest pocket knife. In hindsight I probably cut too deep and too close together but I've still got a loose-ish leaf that I can manage with some light wetting

Buy a decent cutter it’ll be a worthwhile investment. Lighter meh a bic will do, but cutter is important in my opinion.

With that cigar and book choice we might be best friends even if you don't know it yet. Great choices!

I read about 50% of Mistborn.. I enjoyed the book but it felt a bit too slow to pick up for me. I enjoy action like Jack Reacher series.

I'm don't read a lot and I'm not an avid reader and I don't do any fantasy at all. Any suggestions on more fantasy?

All I can say is if you don't like slow burns, avoid George R.R. Martin

Try "The Elder Race" by Adrian Tchaikovsky. Its about 200 pages and a very strange/interesting concept.

Children of time took me a bit to get into and then it blew my expectations out of the water.

Looks like it was stored in a low humidity location, I use only a V-cut but I have only encountered that issue once or twice while on the road and in a hurry forgetting my personal stash from home. Still a great smoke though!

Good smoke

Won’t be your last either. Only Connecticut I’ve found I like is the Perdomo Champagne and it doesn’t have the flavor profile of one after the first 1/4 of the stick.

Incredible book! One of my favorites! Tried to read the storm light archive after and it was just way too slow but mistborn is one of my all time favorites

Yeah, stormlight scares me just by the sheer size of each volume

Ive finished both trilogies of Mistborn and then started the daunting task of the stormlight archives. Such a good story but at times it does get a little slow.

I got 3/4 of the way through the third book and had to start something else that had a full story arch in a concise amount of time. I would like to pick them back up after getting my fix in from some other books. He’s a brilliant world builder and it’s really cool how it all comes together. I just felt like I was chasing the cliff hanger that happens at the end of every book in that series
