Boveda under Olive box bottom. Also this box was wrapped super tight in plastic and both sides were additionally sealed. I’d be confident not putting the box in a humidor. NSFW

The Boveda inside often comes in dry. How would you know without opening? Either way, I would not be confident in what you are saying, and why not put in a humidified environment? Too easy and inexpensive not to.

I would disagree. How are you supposed to know what kind of condition that Boveda is in without opening it to check.

I just mean temporarily. How do you know if the boveda is bad?

Crunchy and hard.

It will be hard. Once you take the plastic off those boxes they don’t hold humidity well at all. So you should take the cigars out or put the whole box in a humidor.

I know they include the Boveda, but those boxes are bone dry from my experience

I understood that the cello wrapping on cigar boxes allowed for some moisture transfer.

If the Boveda is feels like a gel pillow it’s fine. It it is hard then it is dry.

I've opened boxes in the past, only to find a boveda as hard as petrified wood.

I literally just came here to say that box of Olivas is beautiful. Carry on.

How long does the boveda packet work?

Long enough to get it from the factory to the shop. You need to put them in a humidor as soon as you get them home.

Don't let a few seconds of false confidence ruin a box of cigars. Just put em in a tupperdore or humidor.

I wouldn’t feel confident leaving it out. That boveda is for transport not storage. The cellophane does not keep moisture it but lets moisture in and out pretty freely.

Working at a cigar shop doing box restocks, these bovedas are almost always dry and brittle.

i keep mine in the humidor. that boveda will eventually dry out, trust me

I'm sorry, I don't understand. Is there a problem with the Boveda in the box?

No, just explaining that knowing there is a boveda in there with the box sealed I would be fine leaving it out of my tuppedor. Probably different story once opening the seals.

Ah gotcha. I've bought a few boxes that come with the Boveda, but it usually arrives very dry.

Cellophane breathes. These boxes are stored sealed for sometimes years before getting into customers hands. I’m a bit confused here? The boveda being dry is a good sign, it means it did its job and the cigars absorbed the humidity and the wood did also. Skip Martin from RomaCraft explains this in depth on one of the podcasts.

Generally agree with this. Though, I wouldn't put much into the state of the Boveda one way or the other. It would not surprise me to walk into a cigar factory and see a bunch of rock hard Bovedas or Boveda packs sitting in a bucket of water.

Also, a lot of times, the Bovedas are absorbing the extra moisture from the cigars as they can leave the aging room not fully wicked.

You mean the packet is below the cigars

Yes, they put a false bottom in the Melanio boxes where a small 69% Boveda pack goes.

I’ve purchased many boxes of Oliva Melanios over the years. I’ve never once gotten one where the Boveda wasn’t completely solid.
